Release Blitz - Fatal Identity by Marie Force

Synopsis:
Every family has its secrets…
As the first anniversary of her marriage to Vice President Nick Cappuano approaches, Lieutenant Sam Holland is dreaming of Bora Bora—sun, sand and a desperately needed break from the DC grind. But real life has a way of intervening, and Sam soon finds herself taking on one of the most perplexing cases of her career.

Government worker Josh Hamilton begs Sam to investigate his shocking claim that his parents stole him from another family thirty years ago. More complicated still, his “father” is none other than the FBI director. When a member of Josh’s family is brutally murdered, Sam begins to question how deep this cover-up goes. Is it possible the revered director was part of a baby-napping ring and that others involved are also targets?

With a killer intent on deadly revenge and her team still reeling from a devastating loss, Sam’s plate is full—and when Nick and their son, Scotty, take ill, is her dream of a tropical anniversary celebration in peril too?

Excerpt:

Sam pushed through the double doors and into cool, crisp winter air that smelled like snow. She’d had a conversation yesterday with her son, Scotty, about how air can smell like snow. Scotty said it wasn’t possible tosmell snow, even after she got him to take a few deep breaths to see what she meant. He remained skeptical, but she had a few more weeks of winter to prove her point.
“Mrs. Cappuano.”
Sam turned toward the man who’d called to her. He was in his late twenties or early thirties, handsome with dark blond hair and brown eyes. The panic she saw in his expression put her immediately on alert. “That’s me, although they don’t call me that around here. And you are?”
“Josh Hamilton.”
Sam shook his outstretched hand. “What can I do for you, Josh?”
“I need your help.”
“Okay.”
“Today I was bored at work, so I started surfing the web, you know, just clicking around aimlessly.”
As a technophobe of the highest order, Sam didn’t know because she’d never done that and certainly not at work, where she was usually too busy to pee, let alone surf.
Josh took a series of deep breaths, and Sam’s anxiety ramped up a notch. “I saw this story about a baby who was kidnapped thirty years ago. They had this age-progression photo showing what he’d look like now, and…” He gulped. “It was me.”
“Wait. What?
With trembling hands, Josh retrieved his cell phone from his pocket and called up a web page, zeroing in on a digitally produced photo that did, in fact, bear a striking resemblance to him.
“Those photos are produced by computers. They’re not exact.”
That’s me! And it explains why I’ve never felt at home or accepted in my family. What if they took me?”
“Hang on a minute. What evidence do you have to suspect that your parents participated in a criminal act to bring you into their family?”
He seemed to make an effort to calm down. “They’re extremely accomplished people and so are my siblings. My brother is a board-certified neurosurgeon. He went to Harvard for undergrad and medical school. My sister is an attorney, also Harvard educated, Law Review, the whole nine yards. And then there’s me. I barely made it out of state college after having spent most of my five years there on academic probation. After four years working for the federal government, I’m a GS-9 at Veterans Affairs, where I shuffle paper all day while counting the minutes until I can leave. The only reason I have that job is because my father, who has never approved of a thing I said or did, pulled strings to get me in. They’re all Republicans while I’m a liberal Democrat who fully supports your husband. I hope he runs in four years, by the way.”
“None of that proves your parents kidnapped you.”
“Will you take my case? Please? I need to know for sure. This would explain so much of why I’ve felt like a square peg in my own family my entire life.”
Sam held up a hand to stop him. “I’m a homicide cop, not a private investigator, but if you really believe a crime has been committed, I can refer you to someone within the department—”
“No.” He shook his head. “I want you. You’re the best. Everyone says so.”
“I’m honored you think so, but I’m on a leave of absence for the next few days, so I’m not able to take your case personally.”
“It has to be you. You’re the only one I’d trust to do it right.”
“The Metro PD has plenty of very qualified detectives who could look into this for you and help determine whether a crime has been committed, Mr. Hamilton.”
“You don’t understand. It can’t be any random detective. It can only be you.”
“Are you going to tell me why?”
He took another series of deep breaths, appearing to summon the courage he needed to tell her why. “It’s… He’s… Well, my dad, you see… He’s Troy Hamilton, the FBI director.”
***
Holy bombshell, Batman! Sam’s mind raced with implications and scenarios and flat-out disbelief. “You can’t honestly believe that your father, one of the top law enforcement officials in the country, kidnapped a child thirty years ago.”
“I wouldn’t put it past him,” Josh said.
“He’s one of the most respected men in our business. He’s revered.”
“Believe me, I know all about how revered he is. I hear about it on a regular basis.” He looked at her beseechingly. “You have to help me. I don’t know who else to turn to. Besides some of the people who work for my father, I don’t know any other cops, and you’re the best. And… I’m scared.” The last two words were said on a faint whisper.
Sam wanted nothing to do with the snake pit this case could turn out to be, but the detective in her was far too intrigued to walk away. “How’d you get here?”
“I took the Metro.”
She took a look around to see if anyone was watching, but the parking lot was deserted, and the usual band of reporters that stalked the MPD were taking the day off. They tended to do that when it was freezing. “Come with me.” She led him to her car and gestured for Josh to get in the passenger side.
Though she had no idea what she planned to do with him or the information he’d dropped in her lap, she couldn’t walk away from what he’d told her. “Tell me more about this website where you saw the photo.”
“It’s a blog run by parents of missing children.”
“How did you end up there?”
“I read a story about a baby who was kidnapped from a hospital in Tennessee the day after he was born and how his parents have never stopped looking for him. The thirtieth anniversary of the abduction is coming up, so they’ve gotten some regional publicity. There was a link in the story that led to the blog where the age-progression photo was.”
“So the photo hasn’t been picked up by the media?”
“Not that I could tell, but I was too freaked out by what I was seeing to dig deeper, especially since my thirtieth birthday is next week. I told my boss I had an emergency. I left the office and came right to you.”
“Why me?”
“Are you serious? After the inauguration, the whole country knows what an amazing cop you are. Who else would I go to with something like this?”
Blowing off the comment, she said, “You realize that accusing the FBI director of a capital felony is not something you do without stacks of proof that he was involved.”
“That’s where you come in. I need proof, and I need it fast before that picture gets picked up by the wires or social media and flung around the country. I need proof before he knows that I know.”
Sam had to agree that time was of the essence before this thing blew up into a shitstorm of epic proportions. With that in mind, she started the car, pulled out of the MPD parking lot and into weekday afternoon traffic that clogged the District on the way toward Capitol Hill.
“Where are we going?”
“My house.”
She glanced over at him and saw his eyes get big. “For real?”
“Yes, for real.” She paused before she continued. “Look, if you want me to dig into this, I have to do it at home. I’m…off duty right now. I’ve gotta stay below the radar on this or my bosses will be all over me.”
“No one will hear it from me.”
After a slow crawl across the District, Sam pulled up to the Secret Service checkpoint on Ninth Street. Normally they waved her through, but she had to stop to clear her guest. “They’ll need to see your ID.”
Josh pulled his license from his wallet and handed it to her.
She gave it to the agent, who took a close look before returning it to her. “Thank you, ma’am. Have a nice day.”
“You too.”
“What’s that like?” Josh asked. “Being surrounded by Secret Service all the time?”
“About as much fun as you’d expect it to be.”
“Why don’t you have a detail?”
“Because I don’t need one. I can take care of myself.” Thankfully, he didn’t mention the recent siege in Marissa Springer’s basement as an example of her inability to take care of herself. Sam liked to think that was a onetime lapse in judgment, never to be repeated.
Outside their home, her husband’s motorcade lined the street. What was he doing home so early?
She parked in her assigned spot—everyone who lived on Ninth Street now had assigned parking spaces—and headed up the ramp that led to their home.
“Why do you have a ramp?” Josh asked.
“My dad’s a quadriplegic. He lives down the street. My husband installed the ramp so he could come to visit.”
“Oh, that’s cool. Sorry about your dad, though.”
“Thanks.”
Nick’s lead agent, John Brantley Jr., met her at the door. “Lieutenant.”
“Brant. What’s he doing home so early?”
“The vice president isn’t feeling well.”
Say what?

Our Review
Max Monroe has done it again! Banking the Billionaire is the 2nd book in the Bad Boy Billionaires series and let me tell you, it is an amazing one. I was a little worries about it for a minute, but I should have never doubted Max Monroe. This book has everything I love in
a book, which is romance, passion, hilarity, and conflict. Max Monroe has figured out the perfect chemistry for the perfect book!
Banking the Billionaire follows Cassie and Thatcher. Really from the beginning this book is amazing. Thatcher and Cassie are two very fun and wild characters that added a lot to
Georgia and Kline’s book, Tapping the Billionaire, so I knew their book would be even better. Seriously, after I read Tapping Her, the novella linking these two books, I was literally panting waiting impatiently for this book to be released. Max Monroe knows how to keep the readers wanting more.
The characters are developed in their own way. I feel Thatcher was already on the brink of developing as the story began, while Cassie needed a little more time. With that
being said, I loved reading their journeys and experiences from their point of view. I feel this really added to the story. I also feel the novella really helped build this story up and offer valuable insight into each character. I Loved these two characters with all my heart.
The plot was brilliant. It was like “let’s put these two wild and crazy hearts together and see what they do. “ I loved it. I cannot say too much without giving anything away, but I really loved the path the authors took. For a minute there I was worried. I knew that a conflict was coming, but I could not figure out what. I was hoping it wasn’t the normal conflict seen in romance novels. I was pleasantly surprised by the conflict in question and was so happy that it happened the way it did. It was like a train derailing. You want to look away, but all you can do is sit there and cringe. Max Monroe, You rock!
In conclusion, this is the best book I have read so far this year. This even took it a step up from Tapping the Billionaire, which was one of my favorites prior to reading this book. There is just so much in this book to love. Mostly, I love that it had me laughing out loud so much that
my fiancé had to ask me several times “what is so funny?” There were times I was struggling to breathe through my laughter. Max Monroe, whoever you are, you are amazing and wonderful author/authors. Whatever gave you the idea to team up and start writing together, well we as
 readers are extremely grateful.

 “The Sticky Pickle?”
 “Yep”
“Good God, Thatcher. Not only can’t you put your boner away, but now you’ve got it all sticky.” –Cassie and Thatcher, Banking the Billionaire

“No way am I meeting your parents in a shirt that talks about petting my kitty before you have the pleasure.” –Cassie, Banking the Billionaire

“Whatever. I’d be the most organized hooker. I’d get one of those credit card swipe-y things.”
“When is the right time to complete the transaction in that scenario?”
“I think they’d swipe before, and sign their PayPal receipt after.” –Georgia and Cassie, Banking the

Tiny Tease:

I recognized the need to forget all the details and just concentrate on what I knew. And I knew how to eat a f*cking p*ssy.

      The secret was simple.
It was never, ever the same.
It could be the same woman, the same day, the same f*cking session, but a woman’s p*ssy is a special kind of woman. She’s picky but f*cking generous, and she gets off on all kinds of wicked sh*t, but her biggest turn-on is variety and a good sense of mood.

I did my best to listen for Cassie’s cues, her moans and whimpers and the speed of her breath. Did she need it faster or slower, and was the pressure just right? The answer was never consistent, and I f*cking loved it. Every time I earned a reward through the curl of her toes or a squeeze of her knees, it made me work harder.

REVIEW - Paper Princess (The Royals #1) - Erin Watt

TITLE - Paper Princess (The Royals #1)

AUTHOR - Erin Watt

Synopsis:

From strip clubs and truck stops to southern coast mansions and prep schools, one girl tries to stay true to herself.

These Royals will ruin you…

Ella Harper is a survivor—a pragmatic optimist. She’s spent her whole life moving from town to town with her flighty mother, struggling to make ends meet and believing that someday she’ll climb out of the gutter. After her mother’s death, Ella is truly alone.

Until Callum Royal appears, plucking Ella out of poverty and tossing her into his posh mansion among his five sons who all hate her. Each Royal boy is more magnetic than the last, but none as captivating as Reed Royal, the boy who is determined to send her back to the slums she came from.

Reed doesn’t want her. He says she doesn’t belong with the Royals.

He might be right.

Wealth. Excess. Deception. It’s like nothing Ella has ever experienced, and if she’s going to survive her time in the Royal palace, she’ll need to learn to issue her own Royal decrees.

My Review:

I can't believe I forgot to write a review on this book. I read it in 1 sitting, loved it and was completely addicted and wowed by it. So how on earth did I forget to write a review on it?

Anyway, so this book was amazing. I wasn't sure if I would like it, never mind love it. The blurb was good, and I fancied some angst and drama. I was not disappointed.

Ella Harper is a girl who has a rough life, but her determination is so strong, she won't let anything get her down. She just needs to keep her head down, and get through high school, and hopefully not be noticed. Until everything changes. Callum Royal, a rich and gorgeous stranger walks into her school one day and is determined to change her life. That's when Ella realises what life is like on the other side. Luxurious, lavish, and cruel. Callum Royal's 5 sons are going to teach her that.

With 5 gorgeous sons, Ella is thrown in to the deep end. Each son seems to be spoilt and cruel in their own way, and have plenty of secrets. As much as Ella just wants to get on with her life, they are going to make it difficult for her, and Reed Royal seems to be the most gorgeous, tempting, and nastiest.

Cue some crazy chemistry, between Ella and Reed. As much as they seem to hate each other, it's obvious they are also mega attracted to each other, and it's addictive waiting to see what happens. The brothers are also hiding secrets, and Ella's curious nature is leading her to find out what they are.

I loved how addictive this story was, and the characters were the best part. Even the additional smaller characters were so entertaining to read about. The writing style was so good, I just couldn't stop reading. I loved the story and didn't want it to end. Even with the crazy ending, I still loved it, and want the next book like right now.

Hugely recommend this story if you want something a bit different, but insanely entertaining and full of edge of the seat chemistry!

REVIEW - Broken Prince (The Royals #2) - Erin Watt

TITLE - Broken Prince (The Royals #2)

AUTHOR - Erin Watt

Synopsis:

These Royals will ruin you…

From wharf fights and school brawls to crumbling lives inside glittery mansions, one guy tries to save himself.

Reed Royal has it all—looks, status, money. The girls at his elite prep school line up to date him, the guys want to be him, but Reed never gave a damn about anyone but his family until Ella Harper walked into his life.

But when one foolish mistake drives her out of Reed’s arms and brings chaos to the Royal household, Reed’s entire world begins to fall apart around him.

She might be right.

Secrets. Betrayal. Enemies. It’s like nothing Reed has ever dealt with before, and if he’s going to win back his princess, he’ll need to prove himself Royally worthy.

My Review:

Well it came, I read, I'm now left hanging again.

So yeah I was dying to read Broken Prince after the epic ending of Paper Princess, it wasn't a huge wait luckily, and I jumped straight back in as soon as it flew through to my Kindle.

So again, I can hardly say anything without dropping one spoiler or another. There is so many amazing twists and turns in these books, that any wrong word in a review, and the whole story will be ruined.

What I can say is, yet again I was rendered silent after the epicness of this story. If I'm totally honest, I wasn't entirely sure I was enjoying it to start with. After the cliffy from book one was handled, it kind of slowed down, and I wasn't sure if it was going anywhere. I did contemplate putting it down, and taking a break with something else, but I persevered and I'm glad I did, as it picked up half way through and was totally addictive for the second half.

Still loving all the Royal brothers, especially sweet yet troubled Easton, and Gideon with his huge bubble of mystery and broodiness over his head. Ella was totally epic in part 2. At one point I was even contemplating loudly cheering her behaviour in one EPIC scene, if it hadn't of been stupid late and I would of got moaned at of course. She was just amazing, I seriously love that girl!!

Again, lots of reveals and twists and turns to contend with towards the end, and it's again left on a cliffy to make you scream, but it's made me dead excited for book 3. I seriously can't wait to find out what happens, after not 1 HUGE reveal, but 2 MAHOOSIVE reveals at the end!!!!! Drama to the extreme, and I love it!!

Incredible collaboration between the two authors in this book, and the writing skill shows throughout. Fingers crossed for some of the other brothers to get their own books at some point!! :D

Our Review

Picture the scene......
I'm in a hotel room in Edinburgh when I get a message off my fellow blogger, who is manning the emails saying "Check your kindle" I was like, huh, what? The conversation went something like....
Lou: Check your kindle.
Me: What?
Lou: There is an email saying new Pepper has been sent, did you sign up, I wish I had, check your kindle.
Me: Checking.
Me: Syncing.
Me: Damn hotel wifi.
Me: Holy shit lad, I have Pennies!
Lou: Im soooooooooo jealous
Me: Ok
*Goes and reads*
*Basically ignores room mate all night*
*Randomly shouts OMG at said room mate who just looks at me*
Me: Lad, you need to read Pennies!!!

Needless to say, she entered every arc giveaway going and actually won one a few days later and has since read it. She too was not disappointed and without spoiling the story I'll tell you why, Pepper left this story of a cliffy, thats no secret, its a series however she left it in a way that as a reader you feel satisfied with that cliffy, that, somehow, that was exactly where it needed to end. No I've no idea what direction book two is going to take, but I can tell you, I'll be at the front of the queue for it.

Tough part, reviewing the actual book, man this is hard without giving anything away, there are SO MANY parts I just wanna scream and tell you, read this bit, no read this bit and oooh you'll never believe what he said here, but I cant! I will say I loved it. Every depraved page of it.

Tasmin is a girl unlike any other I've read in a long while, she is unique, the fact that she's a "m'lady" didnt ever bother me, because she was someone I just rooted for, all along, I was "No'One", I was with her every step of the way, and Elder? well, this is where i came a bit unstuck, coz lets not beat around the bush, he is a bad man, but god help me I liked him. What does that say about me?

A girl stuck in a world, so far from her own (not in a scifi way, but metaphorically speaking) finding a small amount of salvation in one of lifes b******s and toilet roll, whats not to love.

Pepper, for me, just continually smashes it out the park and Pennies, just cement that belief in her. Pennies is a story that will stick with me and it will top my list of recommendations for friends looking for a dark read.

For the sake of clarity, I will use this opportunity / platform to put across my opinion on dark reads, and how people review and perceive them.
DARK READS ARE DARK!!!
Dark does not mean "May contain anal, or foul language or a few trigger like scenarios" it means it can and will use every dark, depraved and deceptive thing the authors imagination allows. Learn this, know it, live it and for the love of god, dont read a dark read and leave a rubbish review stating "Its too dark, and we should be warned it contains xxx"
NO
Warning you with a list of every single mildly murky thing in it, ruins it for the rest of us going in looking for an actual dark read.
So for the sake of everyone out there, those faint of heart and those of us who should probably seek psychiatric help. Please just assume if its a dark read, it means DARK!!!!!

Excerpt

Fuck this.
I stalked forward.
My hand came up.
The urge to soothe her catapulted my fingers to her cheek. My skin erupted from her delicate heat. I’d already had my single touch when I’d petted her hair. I wasn’t permitted a second.
But it didn’t stop me.
One second, she stood close, arching her chin at the door.
The next, she was across the cage, flying into a stack of boxes that tumbled in a clatter of butcher knives, butter knives, and sharp forks.
Her eyes turned luminous in the gloom, locking on mine with rage.
Shit.
I’d forgotten myself by feeling sorry for this beaten wraith, but she hadn’t forgotten her overwhelming hatred of men.
I didn’t look away. But I didn’t explain myself, either.
I’d borrowed her for the night. If I wanted to touch her, I could. The fact that she’d leapt away meant I could report her to her master and have her punished.
Or you could punish her instead.
The distance between us grew thicker as we breathed fast.
I waited…wanting to know just how deep her education in pleasure flowed. Tearing her gaze from mine, she swallowed hard. Piece by piece, she hid her loathing, replacing it with reluctant acceptance.
Inching closer, her toes nudged aside sharp blades as she made her way to me and fell to her knees on the cold concrete.
Half of me jolted with insane lust. Most of me shied away with repulsion as her straggly hair covered her face but not before I saw the twisted disgust and echoing despair.
“Get up,” I murmured. Even though my voice was low, the cavern of the garage amplified it, layering it with bite.
Instantly, she swooped up. The crackle of her joints and misused cartilage in her bones sounded like tiny gunfire.
“Don’t kneel. Not in here.”

Pepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero, the better, and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters. Oh, and sex... her books have sex.
She loves to travel and has an amazing, fabulous hubby who puts up with her love affair with her book boyfriends.
