REVIEW - The Selection - Kiera Cass

My Review:

Another series, I needed to catch up with. The last book had been released, and I'm only just starting. Have I mentioned, Dystopian stories are like a new drug, I love them! So addictive. So The Selection is definitely in the YA category, and I do sometimes struggle with YA, only because I would like the lead characters to be a tad closer to my age, but to be honest this story rocked on it's own, I didn't really pay all that much attention to the age of the characters. We are in a world miles away from our own, and things are very different from how they are for us. In this time, every time a Prince is of the age to marry, there is a process called The Selection, where girls from across the Castes 1-5 (lower groups 6-8 not included) are able to put forth an application, to be chosen for The Selection. Only 35 are chosen, and America Singer from Caste 5 (One of the lowest) is one of the chosen. Except she doesn't want to marry a Prince, or enter The Selection. She is dealing with a broken heart, and has no interest in the crown or the husband. She wants things to go back to how they were, and just concentrate on her music. So we follow the first stages of The Selection in book 1. It's a look at how things are between the different caste girls, and also what is going on outside of the world that they know. Each girl gets to meet the prince and go on a series of dates, as he eliminates the incompatible girls. What with that seemingly quiet time, there is also many other issues taking place. Rebels attacking the castle, teen girls fighting to be Princess, and battling attraction that wasn't intentional or wanted. America is the middle of it all. Extremely exciting, but also confusing for her. Where the Prince should be the one making the choice, America is left with choices of her own. It's a story full of action, drama, and chemistry. Something for everyone. And all under the backdrop of a world that is completely different from ours. A uniquely clever story, that is beyond addictive. And my late arrival to this series, means I don't have to wait for the next book! My Review:

Hidden is the second novel in the McKenzie Ridge series written by Stephanie St. Klaire. 

Rescued was the first novel in the series which was amazing, but Hidden is even better. I don’t know if it is because as a reader we have met many of the characters and fallen in love with them already, but I absolutely loved Hidden. 

Colton is such a hot man with a sensitive side that speaks to every woman. There is just enough mystery to keep the readers interested as well. While being the second book in the series, this novel can be read as a standalone novel. 

Hidden has a very interesting plot. Stephanie did a spectacular job of keeping the readers interested while giving them bits and pieces of imperative information to help them put the pieces of the puzzle together. I have to say this plot was one of the more interesting plots that I have read in a while. I loved the mystery of this book. I knew right away that Megan had more going on than anyone realised, but I didn’t expect some of the events that transpired. I love when a book catches me off guard and throws some curves in my way. 

The main character Megan is developed nicely. She has a long journey ahead of her at the start of the book and I love that readers were able to go on the journey with her. Colton develops a bit as well, but his main job in the book is to act as a catalyst for Megan to do some developing herself. I love their interactions with each other. 

Colton is one of my new book boyfriends for sure. He is described as attractive, but that is not what made me fall for him. He had me at animals. So as to not reveal too much, I will leave it at that. He melts my heart.

There is plenty of heat in this book. Stephanie sure knows how to heat a room up and make a girl blush. The interactions between characters is wonderful. I love how she allows the characters to develop and bond organically. I hate it when authors force the heat in books and rush the romance. Stephanie does not do this, which leads to a sweet yet spicy romance story. I also love all the humour in the book. All of her characters are funny and love to have a good time. I really felt like I was reading about down to earth people who could be friends of mine.

Overall, I absolutely loved Hidden. Stephanie St. Klaire is an author to look out for. She has a unique take on romance novels while throwing in a dash of mystery and action to give a girl everything she needs in a book. Her characters are relatable and very likeable. Stephanie transports you into her world and allows you to imagine you are a part of her tight knit group of characters. I would and have already recommended this book to others!

REVIEW - Karma - Nadine Nightingale

My Review:

Karma by Nadine Nightingale is a paranormal romance. I instantly thought of the CW show Supernatural while I was reading this story. I am a huge Supernatural fan so I loved the book. 
Karma is about ex lovers getting together to save the hero's brother who's gone missing.

Alex and Jesse are partners and are in constant contact. When Jesse goes MIA, Alex knows there is only one person who can help him find his brother. Only issue is he's a hunter and Amanda is a witch. Working with witches goes against everything Alex believes in. Toss in the fact that they have a romantic history and she lied to him about who she was, you have a disaster in the making.

Amanda cannot say no to Alex. She doesn’t want to help the man who broke her heart but her loyalty lies with Jesse. He saved her once so it's her turn to repay the favor. Amanda just wants to start her normal life but can’t until this case is solved. 

Will Amanda be able to keep her secrets from Alex? 
Will his lack of faith in her put the two on opposite teams? 
Lastly, will she be able to keep her feeling for Alex hidden from prying eyes?

I seriously loved this story. You have two brothers that work together to keep the paranormal at bay and a witch who will go against everything she believes in to help them. 
There wasn’t any romance in the story, unless you count the sometimes sexual tension between Alex and Amanda. I liked how the story was solid enough on its own without it. You want Alex and Amanda to get together, but you know it can’t happen yet.

Karma is probably my favorite paranormal book that I have reviewed in a very long time. It's one that I could go back and reread over and over. I cannot wait for the second book. I want to know what secrets the two are hiding and if Jesse is okay. Congratulations Nadie, you more then surprised me with this story and I look forward to the ones to follow.
