The smart and
rational side of my brain seems to be on a break because all I’m capable of
doing is raking my eyes over Mr. Basketball Shorts. He’s tall with broad
shoulders and the most pronounced abs I’ve ever seen up close. The baseball cap
on his head is turned backward, and he’s currently wiping his face off with
what I assume to be his shirt. That is the only reason he hasn’t seen me yet,
and why I haven’t seen his face yet either. But I’m going out on a limb here
and say it’s probably as gorgeous as the rest of him.

My eyes drift
back to his drool-worthy chest, following the beads of sweat that are slowly
running down his torso to the V-shaped lower abs until they disappear into the
pair of shorts that sits low on his hips.

Sudden heat
shoots through my body, making my cheeks tingle from the force of it. My brain
uses that moment of distraction to finally kick back in again, reminding me of
the situation at hand.

A total stranger
is standing in my kitchen.

Half-naked.

And we’re all
alone in this house.

Our Reviews:

Johnaka's Review:

“Baking and music, 5 stars”

Charlie is starting over. Her like is hectic but she will do anything to make a better life for herself and her daughter. What she wasn’t expecting was Hudson. Will she be able to let him in or will she be hesitant? One thing is for sure nothing can stop her from succeeding.

Hudson has come home to recharge his batteries. What he wasn’t expecting was to find his Grandma, Charlie, or Charlie’s daughter staying at his place. Charlie is a breath of fresh air. Will he be able to convince her to give him a chance?

Oh, how I adored Charlie and Hudson. The chemistry between the two was top notch. I loved how Hudson just accepted Charlie and her daughter. Baking with the Rockstar wasn’t your typical Rockstar romance and I loved it. The story was just super cute and made me smile. I hope it does the same to you.

Erin's Review:

The first in a new series, Baking with a Rockstar is a great read! Opposites attract in this fun read. My first time reading anything by this author, but I enjoyed the book. It was a solid read that had good romance, some mystery, and fantastic characters.

Opposites attract when single mom Charlie finds out her roommate is rockstar Hudson! I liked that the plot was more than just hot rockstar woos single mom...they had regular mom issues mixed in with the rockstar celebrity, and went about life so the story was quite relatable.

I connected so much with Charlie when she said, “Some people take a relaxing bath or work out when they're frustrated or need to let off some steam. I bake.” She's a feisty single mom trying to start over in a new place and provide for her family. We don't get to know her full history until nearly the end of the book. She wanted to find someone for herself, but was first a mom and needed to provide for her daughter. And then the way she met Hudson was a fantastic meet-cute! I love how Hudson can come home and be the local boy and not be hounded by paparazzi. He's a good guy who has a job in the spotlight and needs some downtime. Along the way he just happens to meet someone he'd like to spend time with and connects with.

Charlie and Hudson had good chemistry. Hudson had the rockstar handsome thing going for him, and digs Charlie's beauty and brains and mothering (and her adorable daughter!). Charlie can't resist the good man that Hudson is and enjoys co-habitating and co-parenting with him. So they naturally start to spiral to each other, and their chemistry works well. Their relationship is natural and down to earth, but they have some earth shattering moments to heat the story.

Overall, the book was well paced, though maybe a little slower than I'd like. I wasn't totally sucked in, and it did take me longer to read than I wished. Despite that, I did enjoy the characters and their families and setting. There was good set up for future books with Hudson's family and Charlie's friend. The writing style was easy to read and with a well rounded vocabulary.

I liked this book! Charlie's back story lent the book a bit of mystery, and it touched on many social aspects (fame, mental health, parenthood, privacy). I would recommend this book, and am invested enough to want to read Hudson's family stories, and that of Charlie's friend.

Favorite Quotes:

“Somebody, please have mercy, because I'm not sure my ovaries can take this any longer.”

“He's just a normal guy after all-a normal guy who poops.”

“This man is a walking ray of sunshine, and I can't remember the last time I've smiled this much.”

“No one should be this sexy and utterly charming, not to mention adorable, all at the same time.”

Turn around princess.
I need to see the woman who’s sultry dancing has made me
lose all concentration. The little vixen who has my head in a haze forgetting
about Danny and his SOS message.
Finally, at the end of the song she turns my way. Her face
is still blocked by the blonde locks that have stuck to her sweat plastered
skin. She flips her hair with a big smile teasing at her lips.
Suddenly I lose the ability to take in a breath when my
lungs cease to work.
It’s Emmy.
Fuck me. I feel all kinds of wrong with the thoughts that
have just run through my head. I just pictured my best friend’s little sister
with her legs tight around me as I pound into her. I try to wipe the visual
from my mind, but I’m unable to. It’s official, I’m going to hell and my body
hasn’t yet got the memo that it’s Emmy dancing on the stage because my cock’s
still standing at attention ready to claim her.

Our Review:

“She’s up for the match of her life, 5 stars”

Emmerson has been in love with her brother’s best friend since forever. The thing you should know about Emmy is she’s a fighter and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants in the ring and outside of it. Will he finally notice her? Or is it time to cut all ties?

Joss has always had a soft spot for Emmy. He is willing to be in her life in any capacity, but not as a boyfriend. Then one day he actually sees her. He’s single, she’s single. Are they both willing to jump in the cage and fight for what they want?

I adored Emmerson. She’s one of those women who doesn’t give a dam about what people think of her but at the same time realizes that on her rise to fame she has women and little girls who look up to her. She is fierce and it was awesome. Then you have Joss who’s a protector through and through. He’s alpha when he needs to be but knows when to let her lead.

I felt like all the characters brought something to the table and I can’t wait to see if Crowley does more with the Cage family.

I discover I lost my wallet.
So I bargain—a free ride for a kiss.

What starts out as

His lips are soft, and when he tugs me closer,
I press my entire body against his hard muscles, and practically strip him from

Our Review:

“The Royal and the Commoner, 5 stars”

Max has had his life planned out for him since birth but recently broke away from those ties. He may have or may not have gone a little wild. But you know what, most guys sow their oats when they are young, but he never got the chance and with being Royal he was held to a higher standard. But now it's time to get back on track. Then he meets Gigi. He pretty much knows right away that she’s going to play a big part in his life, the only question is how big.

Gigi is a simple Texas girl trying to make it in the fashion world of NYC. When she meets Max in the backseat of a cab, she has no idea who he is but he leaves her feeling unsettled. Then their worlds become entwined. Will Gigi be able to keep her distance from Max or will he break down her walls?

I got a kick out of Max and Gigi. She kept him grounded where he reminded her not to be quite so serious. The chemistry between the two was noticeable. I loved how some of their friends and family played a part in Would be King and the slight twist of mystery. All in all I think Would be King is a solid Royal book and cannot wait to see what Karr has in store for us next.

Release Blitz & Review - The Something About Her - Rachel Higginson

TITLE - The Something about Her
AUTHOR - Rachel Higginson

Blurb:

I quit life. Or at least my new job.

My new, fancy, head chef position at one of the most acclaimed restaurants in the city is not turning out like I’d hoped. I’m a mess. Totally out of my element and underqualified, I’ve been thrown into a fiery kitchen and I’m not sure I can handle the heat.

On top of that, my personal life is falling apart. And to make matters worse, my best friend's brother keeps popping up at all my worst moments to save the day.

I’ve never claimed to have it together, but I certainly don’t need a man to rescue me every time I get my heel stuck in a sewer grate. Except that’s what keeps happening.

Vann Delane is pushy and stuck up and thinks he knows everything there is to know about everything. And for whatever reason, he keeps saving me.

Not that he’s happy about it. He’s made it clear what he thinks about my money and dream job and the designer shoes he saved last weekend. He’s not impressed with me and my penchant for disaster.

I’ve decided to stay away from him. I’ve got too many other fires to put out to worry about the something between us that doesn’t have a name.

So, he can give his knight in shining armor kindness to someone else. And he can save those intense glances and butterfly-inducing smiles for the nice girl he’s looking for. And he can deny it all he wants, but I know he likes me.

He says I drive him crazy. But I know there’s something about me that he can’t deny.

OUR REVIEW:

“the health nut and the chef, 4 stars”

Dillion is on the brink of insanity. Her new job? Not exactly how she pictured getting to where she wanted to be. She never thought her life would basically be complete chaos, but here she is killing it. Her personal life is non-existent unless you count her friends. But who likes being the third wheel? Or whatever wheel she technically is. Then Vann starts coming around more. Her friends brother starts to peel back her layers. Will she let him in?

Vann is a blunt, cycling, health nut. The complete opposite of Dillion and her foodie ways. But you know what they say about opposites, they attract. Will he break his habit of always going to good girls a break and give the complicated one a chance?

I genuinely liked Vann and Dillion, I liked them together. I liked how we got glimpses of other characters from the opposites attract books. The only piece of advice I have is, don’t go reading Something about Her when you're hungry. Because with this group food is always a huge part of the story.

Teaser #1:

“We need you, Chef,” Blaze said. It was the first time he had addressed me as Chef and I was immediately floored by the weightiness of hearing that one word. Oh, my god, I was the boss. This was my restaurant. And damn did it feel good to hear someone call me Chef. “I’ll be right there,” I told Blaze. To Vann, I said, “Duty calls.” “Let me know if you fire anyone else today,” he teased. I laughed, unable to help myself. Who was this guy? “You’ll be the first to know.” “Bye, Dillon,” he murmured. My stomach flipped at the familiar way he said my name. “Bye, Vann.” I hung up the phone and dropped it inside my desk drawer. I had a kitchen to run. I couldn’t be thinking about Vann Delane and his surprisingly good advice. Or his shockingly cute butt. Slapping a hand over my mouth to hide my smile, I walked back to the kitchen, pushed up my sleeves and got to work.

 Excerpt:
“Ella.” It was a plea to speak, to not speak. Hell, I didn’t know anymore.
“You don’t see me like that. I totally get it.” She reached for the TV remote.
“How exactly do I see you? Please, enlighten me.” I leaned forward, stealing the remote. She’d opened this box and had better well dish it.
She huffed in annoyance. “You see me as a mom. As Colt and Maisie’s mom. And of course you do, because that’s what I am. A mom with two kids.”
“Well, yeah,” I said. Her motherhood—that selfless devotion she had to her kids—was one of her most attractive attributes.
She rolled her eyes with a little sigh, and the metaphorical light bulb went off in my head.
“You don’t think I want you.”
She shot me a look that confirmed my guess and blushed the same crimson of her couch. “You know, you’re right. It’s late.” She faked a yawn. “Suuuuuuper late.”
“I want you.” Damn, it felt so good to say the words.
“Yeah, okay.” She gave me a goofy look and a thumbs-up. “Please don’t make me feel any more idiotic than I do right now.”
Yeah, enough of this bullshit.
I pounced in one smooth motion, taking her back to the couch, sliding over her as I gathered her wrists in one hand above her head and settled between her open thighs.
Home.
“Holy shit, you move fast.” There was no fear or rejection in her eyes, just surprise.
“Not in every arena,” I promised.
Her lips parted.
“Ella. I want you.”
“Beckett…you don’t have to.”
Yeah, that soft little sigh she did was going to be my undoing.
I let go of her wrists, letting my fingers trail down her arm until I had one hand weaving my fingers into the hair at the base of her scalp and the other at the curve in her waist.
“Feel this?” Then I slid forward, letting my dick stroke along the seam in her pajama pants hard enough for her to gasp at the contact. I couldn’t remember ever wanting to shred a piece of fabric so much in my life. “I’ve never wanted a woman as much as I want you.”
I moved again, and her eyes slid shut as she let loose the sweetest moan.
My dick throbbed, knowing everything I’d fantasized about for the better part of the last eight months was one decision away.
“Beckett.” Her hands found my biceps, her nails digging in.
“Don’t ever think that I don’t want you, because if things were different, I would have already been inside you. I would know exactly how you feel, and what you sound like, look like, when you come. I’ve thought about it at least a hundred different ways, and believe me, I’ve got a great imagination.”
She rocked her hips against me, and I locked my jaw to keep from giving her exactly what her body was asking for. “Ella, you have to stop.”
“Why?” she asked, her lips dangerously close to mine. “What do you mean if things were different?” Her eyes flew wide. “Is this because I have kids?”
“What? No. Of course not. It’s because you’re Ryan’s little sister.” Before I could do any more damage, I got the hell off her and sat back on my side of the couch.
“Because…I’m Ryan’s little sister,” she repeated, scooting so she sat upright, facing me. “And you think he’d, what? Haunt you?”
Three things: The letter. The cancer. The lie.
I repeated those in my head until I was certain I could look at her and not drag her back under me.
“Beckett?”
“When I was growing up, if I wanted something, I took it. Immediately. I had sex at fourteen with a girl in my foster home of the moment. I opened Christmas presents early if I was lucky enough to get one, and it was usually from my social worker or some charity.”
“I don’t understand.” She wrapped her arms around her knees again.
“I took it immediately because I knew if I didn’t, chances were I wouldn’t get it. It was a now-or-never kind of thing—there weren’t second chances.”
“Okay.”
“I can’t touch you, can’t talk about it, because I’m afraid I’ll act on it.”
“And why does that matter if I want you to?”
“Because I won’t get a second chance. And I’m crap with people, with relationships. I’ve never had one that lasted more than a month. Never loved a woman I’ve slept with. And chances are I’d do something to screw this up, because it’s not just my dick that wants you, Ella.”
That O popped right back onto her face, and I closed my eyes to keep from lunging across the distance and kissing her. Knowing she’d let me—that she wanted it—sent my need from a bullet to a nuclear missile.
“And when I’d screw it up, because it would happen, trust me, it would hurt Colt and Maisie, too. You’d be on your own again, because there’s no chance you’d let me hang around and help you out like Ryan asked.”
“And there it is.”
“There it is. You’re Ryan’s little sister.”
“There were only five years between us. Not so little, you know.” She reached for the remote.
“I’m well aware.”
“So if Ryan were still alive…” She shot one last look at me.
I let everything slip for a millisecond, letting her see it all in my eyes, how badly I wanted her, and not just for her body. “Everything would be different.”
“Everything?”
“Everything but the way I feel about you, which he probably would have killed me for. Where does that leave us?”
“You mean besides me being a dried-up spinster and you being honor-bound to a ghost?”
“Something like that.”
She rolled her head along the back of the couch, muttering something that sounded like a curse word under her breath. Then she sat up straight and powered on the TV with a click of her thumb. “That leaves us choosing a movie on demand. Because I’m not letting you walk out that door right now.”
“You’re not?”
“Nope. You walk out now, you might get all weird about this and not come back. Honor is a fabulous thing, but sometimes pride can be a lot stronger, especially when you convince yourself it’s for the good of the other person.”
Damn, the woman knew me.
“So movie it is,” I agreed. “Just…stay on your side of the couch.”
“I wasn’t the one who crossed the center line,” she teased with a smile that got me hard all over again.
Movie chosen, we sat and watched, both of us stealing sideways glances. There was that saying…the horse out of the barn. Yeah, the horse was out of the barn, and it wasn’t going back in. Not no way. Not no how.
That horse was running amok and screwing with my carefully constructed control.
But I didn’t complain when she moved over. Or when she pressed against my side. Nope. I lifted my arm and savored the feel of her curves, her trust. Still didn’t complain when she lay down in my arms. Hell no, I held on and memorized every second.
