REVIEW - Capture by Rachel Van Dyken

Title - Capture
Author - Rachel Van Dyken

Synopsis

Losing your ability to speak at the age of seventeen; it’s not normal or fair.
But trauma, has a way of throwing normality out the window.

Dani lives anything but a normal life.
Her sister is married to one of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Her best friends are rockstar duo AD2.
And she has more love around her than most people experience in a lifetime.
But that doesn't change the fact their parents are dead.
Or that it's her fault.

It seems her new normal is being a mute, living on the inside, unable to actually communicate on the outside.
That is until Hollywood’s newest heartthrob Lincoln Greene hires her as his assistant for the summer.
He's gorgeous, completely unavailable, and unobtainable.
But that doesn't stop her from wondering...if things were different...would he want her?
If she was whole, would he be the other half?

What I thought

This is my very first Rachel Van Dyken book, I'v heard the hype, and I thought I want in.

After reading this I just feel a bit in limbo. It wasn't bad, by and stretch but it wasn't great for me either. Firstly it was a spin off to another series, which I didn't know before I read it, so there were all these characters and all this back story that went right over my head. Secondly, the whole story seemed to be paced good until the last 20% then there just felt like a mad rush to get it all in. But that's just mu opinion and quality of writing wise it excelled, so I imagine to someone who has followed the previous stories, this would be belter!

Dani is a 17 year old girl who after a tragic accident has developed selective mutism, Linc is a hollywood heartthrob, friend of the family and her new boss. Not at all awkward!
"My dad always said nerves mean you're alive. So... today, prove you're living. Don't think of anything else other than getting that across. Movies should be reflections of real feelings, real life. Show life."
The communicate via text message and develop a sorta good working relationship after getting off to a rocky start, feelings start growing on both parts, but its not acted upon until Linc unwittingly breaks down Dani's barriers. In doesn't end happily after there though. there are more hurdles for these two and we are introduced to Zane, a Unique and interesting character who I wish was my best buddy.
"Just because I don't eat when you're around doesn't mean I don't eat. How else could I look this good? Marshmallow diets don't produce muscle, high school. Don't schools teach you anything anymore"
