REVIEW - Must Love Lions by Alma Black

Must Love Lions by Alma Black

Blurb
Alexis Parrish is very single. Sassy and smart, she's great at her job as a journalist, but it's never given her the time to find the right man--specifically, a human. So when she gets assigned to interview Max, a lion shifter, about the new dating app he's created, she can't believe her intense attraction to him. After all, humans and shifters don’t date. Max is used to causing trouble. He broke tradition by creating the paranormal dating app, Shifter Date, which humans and shifters alike can use to answer the call of the wild.

When Max challenges Alexis to give him a chance, she can't say no. A human like her has no business with this handsome alpha lion, but she can't resist his magnetism. Their chemistry is primal, their connection positively animalistic. After all, once you go shifter, you never go back.

But when a rogue shifter group against interspecies dating targets Alexis, Max will stop at nothing to protect her. It's more than his pride on the line; it's his mate.

Warning: Must Love Lions is a paranormal shape-shifter romance. If sassy, sexy, and carnal reads aren't your thing, this book isn't for you. It contains lots of hot sex, a bit of violence, and a lot of witty banter.

Our Review

Must Love Lions is an interesting take on shifter romances. The plot is a fresh one that I haven’t hear of in a long while, while the characters are well developed. There is an air of mystery that settles over the novel pushing the reader to keep going until the veil is lifted. Overall, it is a wonderfully written novel.

Must Love Lions has an interesting plot? Max, a shifter, creates an app that changes the way humans and shifters interact on the dating scene. Alexis, a human, is set to write an article about this app and the changes being caused by it.  There is only one problem, Alexis is not sure where she stands. I like that the plot is fantasy, but has some real world characteristics. In the past, humans have had to deal with similar issues being confronted in this novel. The author did a good job in addressing these issues in a fantasy way, while also remaining authentic.

The characters are developed wonderfully. Max is a wonderful character that I would have no problem jumping into bed with. I liked watching him go on this journey. Alexis could be a little annoying at times, but I chalk it up to her being human and the author wanting to show how different humans and shifters could be, while also showing the similarities. Alexis I felt had more room for growth as she started with a certain attitude that left much to be desired.

This story is told from dual point of views. I always love books like this because we get to see how both main characters feel and think. I also thinks it adds a layer to the story because in single point of views you are solely relying on the main character to know what is going on, while some of the other characters have interactions that could lend clues and understanding to the story for the readers. This is why dual point of views are so important. We get to see what Max is doing while he is away from Alexis and we get to see his perspective.

The number one thing that is most definitely not missing from this story is heat. There is plenty of chemistry between the two main characters. This is evident based on their first meeting. Even though they do not act on it, it is palpable for the reader. Add this with the mystery and one hot book boyfriend and you have given me the perfect book.

Overall, this was a wonderful novel. I loved the mystery, heat, and romance. I also really liked the writing style from the author. The characters were ones that I could keep reading about. I would recommend this book to my friends and family. Great job!
