Review & Excerpt Blitz - Lost Love - Kelly Elliott

BLURB:

Moving back home to my parents’ cattle ranch in Texas was the last thing I thought I’d be doing.

But, here I stand … in front of my high school girlfriend. A beautiful, confident woman has replaced the young girl I once knew and loved. Hell. I’m still in love with her.

Yep. Paxton Monroe was my first love and the one girl in town who now hated my guts. So much so, Paxton swore her revenge on me if it took her until the day she died. The last words she spoke to me were a vow to cut my dick off and shove it down my throat.

The fight between my heart, my head, and last, but certainly not least, my dick starts tonight. Because all I can think about is how I want to be buried so deep inside Paxton she won’t remember how I broke her heart, or how I left her when she needed me the most.

But who will win? My heart is too broken to listen to my head. And my dick, yeah it’s not listening to anything or anyone. Not until it gets what it wants and what it wants is Paxton Monroe.

“Whatcha doing?”
I nearly jumped out of my skin as I spun around and clutched at my chest.
“Jesus, Amelia! Why would you sneak up on me like that?”
She tried to hide her smile and failed. Lifting her brows, she glanced past my shoulder. “Were you watching Steed and Chloe?”
My cheeks heated. “What? No! Are they here? I haven’t seen them. Why would you say that?”
When her eyes moved back to mine, I knew she saw right through my blunder of lies. “Uh-huh. I know I was little when you and Steed dated, so we really don’t know each other all that well.” She smiled. “But I can already tell you’re a terrible liar, Paxton.”
I dropped my head then peeked up at her. “I wasn’t spying.”
Amelia held up her hands. “I didn’t say you were.”
Chewing on my lip, I sighed. “Okay. I was spying. I’m lost, Amelia.”
With a soft sympathetic grin, she glanced at her brother. “So is he, Paxton. His eyes are so sad. Earlier this morning we all had breakfast together as a family and both Mom and I noticed it.”
“The family was all together?” I asked.
She nodded with a grin. “The boys have been working the ranch the last two days so they’re all staying at the house. It’s been nice having Steed home again. Dad’s thrilled he’s back and digging deeper into the business side of the ranch. The idea of having another son run day-to-day operations has him all kinds of happy.”
Guilt hit me square in the chest. It was my fault he left. I told him to leave.
He left his family and stayed away because of me.
“I’m so sorry he left town,” I said.
“Paxton, you didn’t keep him away all those years. That was his decision. A poor one, but his nonetheless.”
I shrugged. Turning, I glanced back at Steed and Chloe. “He’s such a good father.”
The sadness in my voice caused Amelia to put her hand on my shoulder and gave it a squeeze.

 OUR REVIEW:

This book had me entranced! I started this book on a Saturday morning and had it devoured by dinner time. What a page turner! Wrecked is a wonderful novel with some pretty amazing characters. This book has humor, romance, feisty women, alpha men, and some action. There is some scenes that can be a bit darker, but I think it was a nice balance to make this novel feel complete.

I love the plot of this book. Sexy bartender gets in trouble with the law and ends up at the mercy of a hot police officer? Sign me up! What is even better is that the author does an amazing job of taking this plot and elevating it to a whole new level. I love the added layers of the characters past along with some mystery about the current situation and the future. All in all, I loved this aspect of the book.

The characters were even better than I imagined. Leah is one badass woman. She is the type of woman that would make me think she could kick anyone’s butt. She also happens to be a sexy as sin bartender. I loved her character. She is such a strong female character with good morals. She also is very humorous.

Then you have Adam. He is very uptight and takes the law very seriously, as one would expect from a police officer. He just so happens to be sexy as well. These two have a shared past and a lot of developing to do, which is done beautifully in this novel.

The minor characters in this book are just as great as the main characters. My favorite would have to be Leah’s Grandma. She is beyond funny. I can see where Leah got her humor from. Then you have Luke, Leah’s brother. He is just as funny as Leah. My only complaint would be that I wish we got to meet more of Adam’s friends. I guess we kind of did with a couple of the guys, but I felt this would have added another layer to the story. With that being said, it did not really take away from the story for me.

The heat in this book is flaming hot! These two characters start off hating each other. As a reader, I know that when a book starts off like this, sparks are going to fly. This author did not disappoint. You can literally feel the sexual tension melting the pages as you read. If you like a lot of steam in your book, this book is for you.

The author kept the pace of this book steady. She allowed layers to be peeled back for the readers so they would better understand the characters, but not get too much information too fast as to ruin the story. I loved the action aspect of this book. It was just enough to get your blood pumping, but not enough to overpower the book. The only compliant I have is I wish we got to read more from Adam’s point of view.

Overall, this is one flipping amazing book. I am so glad I got the chance to read it. I would recommend this book to others and cannot wait to read more from this author. This book has a little bit of everything for readers. I loved the feisty attitude and the hate to love relationships. I also loved the action and mystery. What a wonderful novel!

REVIEW - A Court of Wings and Ruin - Sarah J. Maas

TITLE - A Court of Wings and Ruin

(A Court of Thorns and Roses #3)

AUTHOR - Sarah J. Maas

BLURB:

A nightmare, I’d told Tamlin. I was the nightmare.

Feyre has returned to the Spring Court, determined to gather information on Tamlin’s maneuverings and the invading king threatening to bring Prythian to its knees. But to do so she must play a deadly game of deceit—and one slip may spell doom not only for Feyre, but for her world as well. As war bears down upon them all, Feyre must decide who to trust amongst the dazzling and lethal High Lords—and hunt for allies in unexpected places.

REVIEW:

Urgh how on earth will I ever review this book. It's left me with a whopping book hangover. It's taken me from the beginning of this month to actually find some words on it. Not to mention, it's book 3 how do I review without giving away so much.

Okay so I'll try. A Court of Wings and Ruin is book 3 in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, and ultimately the best series by Sarah J Maas, in my opinion of course. I love literally everything about this series, and am so pleased with how it has played out throughout the 3 books so far. Everything I wanted to happen, happened. (Sorry, vague I know) I have to be careful for those who haven't read either book 3 or even the series at all.

Feyre is just incredible and gets better each book. She is the most kick ass heroine I have ever read of, and I just love her the more I read her. She is so powerful and brave, she will risk everything for anyone and everything. So selfless and so incredibly clever. I love how she seems to come up with all the genius ideas that she does.

Rhys is perfect. Just that. I love him, and just like Feyre he gets better with each book. They are so alike the pair of them, always sacrificing things for a bigger purpose or others. But damn sexy with it too!! :D

The powerful battle scenes were edge of your seat intense, incredible writing skills from Sarah J Maas, her imagination is just awe inspiring. They are so powerful and take over everything going on around you. You are literally absorbed into the pages, it's that immense.

I will never stop raving about this series, and loving it more than any series in this genre. I really hope there is more to come as I'm not ready to say goodbye to the characters yet. I want to see more of them after the dust settles. So many questions still left unanswered. And the ending, although perfect, left me wanting another few hundred pages more. I just hope we don't have to wait years to get more from them.

Seriously the best. Haven't got enough stars. 5 huge stars.

REVIEW - Whispered Prayers of a Girl - Alex Grayson

TITLE - Whispered Prayers of a Girl
AUTHOR - Alex Grayson

Pre-Order from

Releases July 10th

BLURB:

A tortured soul meets a damaged family…
A lonely man, a widowed woman, a carefree boy, and a broken girl… Can the four come together and help heal each other? Or will fear of the unknown and guilt about the past keep them apart?

Her whispered prayers break her...
At night, as she’s drifting off to sleep, I press my ear to the door and listen to her heart-wrenching pleas. Her words are agony to my healing heart, but I cherish the sound of them, for that’s the only time I ever hear my beautiful daughter speak. Since her father died two years ago, she’s grown quiet and withdrawn. Cat’s Valley was to be our new beginning, a place where my family and I can heal, but what we find there is so much more.

Scars mar his body. Pain has left him in pieces…
Four years ago, I lost the two things I cherished most in the world. They were ripped from my arms in the most painful and cruel way. Since then, I’ve kept to myself, preferring to stay away from the pitying looks and murmured rumors. Everything changed when she and her children barged into my life. It was an accident, and I don’t deserve them, but now that they’re here, I’m not sure I can let them go.

REVIEW:

"Raw, Moving on from the past, 4 stars"

Whispered Prayers of a girl is the first story of Grayson's I've read, I didn't know what to expect, but came away surprised. You have two kids and two adults just trying to find their way through a traumatic time. They find solace in each other.

Alexander watched his wife and daughter die. There was nothing he could do to save them and he has lived with the guilt and the scars everyday since. When he finds Gwen and her two kids stuck in the snow he brings them to safety. With no way off the mountain until the snow clears he goes from a guy used to solitude to one with two kids and a woman underfoot.

Gwen's husband died randomly one day. It's hard to pick up the pieces when she sees her daughter struggling with losing him everyday. When she meets Alexander shes drawn to him. When she sees her daughter and him interact with each other because they understand the pain she cant help but cry.
Alexander and the kids form their own bonds without any issue. They just sync like they have always known each other. Gwen and Alexander also just fall into each other. It was beautiful in a about time way. When an accident happens it brings the two of them together. Sometimes things fall into place when you least expect it.

I really enjoyed the plot of this story. I liked all the characters and the kids reactions were completely on point. My only thing is it felt like a authors first book. It felt a little stiff at times but was easy to push through.

Here is a quote from the book I couldn't agree with more;

'Something tells me, like a soft whisper in the night, that I was meant to meet this man for a reason. My kids and I were brought into his life not by coincidence, but by fate.'

REVIEW - The Chase - Vanessa Fewings

TITLE - The Chase

AUTHOR - Vanessa Fewings

BLURB:

Don't miss The Chase, the first in a sizzling new romantic trilogy from USA Today bestselling author Vanessa Fewings and HQN Books.

Will she risk it all for a priceless desire?

A rising star in one of London's top art investigation firms, Zara Leighton's talent for seeing deep into paintings is in her blood. She's chosen to help track down Icon, an enigmatic international art thief whose heists are methodical, daring, baffling. To Zara the case is maddening—bordering on an obsession.

She finds distraction in the chiseled form of top-shelf client Tobias Wilder, a magnetic American billionaire who demands her expertise, her discretion—and her secrecy. Wilder doesn't ask questions. He gives orders. His gaze alone ignites her deepest fantasies. And his touch…

The sudden whirl of exclusive exhibitions and decadent parties that Wilder introduces her to is a potent aphrodisiac. But surrender soon becomes tinged with suspicion. Is Zara's tryst with Wilder the real thing…or just a convincing forgery?

REVIEW:

Right then. I'm finished. Wow.
So after a 6 month break from reading & reviewing, and of course the hideous black book funk, that I couldn't seem to break free from. I feel like this contemporary romance/suspense/erotica/hot-as-hell-read book that has broken the spell. I was so broken I couldn't seem to pick up old favourites, or trusty go-to authors. Nothing grabbed my attention, nothing stuck past the first chapter, and even though I'm about 3 weeks late to this release, (I even missed the ARC sign ups) I got there eventually. I had to, Vanessa Fewings is the creator of my favorite ever leading man, Cameron Cole. I had to see if the next Alpha male lead she created would in fact match up to him.

To say I wasn't nervous about this new series would be a lie, I was really nervous. The Enthrall Sessions series tops my favourite erotic romance series, and my favourite ever leading Male. I honestly didn't think it could be topped, and was worried that I would be let down by anything that didn't have Cameron Cole in. Yes, silly I know. But anyone who has read that series will know Cameron Cole can't be topped, *ahem* quite literally actually. *sniggers* Anyway, I'm rambling. The point being I was quite intrigued but at the same time nervous.

So our story takes place in the world of Art. Something new for me in books. The beauty, the obsession, the crazy rich and the extent to which some will go to covet what they desire. Actually quite similar to The Enthrall sessions in that regard. Zara Leighton lives art. She has grown up knowing the greatest, and has found love for her favourites. She went on to become an expert in the field, and is finally getting to put her talents to the test. She is working for one of London's best Art Investigation firms, and is spending her time surrounded by what she loves. With the added bonus of getting to help chase down the enigma that is Icon. An international art thief who seems to be able to get into anywhere, take what he wants, and walk back out without a single trace.

Whilst working on the case, Zara finds herself meeting some of the most richest clients, and some want her area of expertise at whatever cost it takes. This is where we meet Tobias. Now if anyone could actually work their way towards Cameron Coles' pedestal in the Book Gods records, Tobias is doing a damn good job of trying. He's hotter than fire, and commands every page he enters. The chemistry between Zara and Tobias is actually so hot it's embarrassing reading those parts in public. In fact I really wouldn't bother. Private reading all the way there.

So to sum up the Chase without actually giving anything away. Well it has a fantastic backdrop to the story, I'm now in love with the Art world just from the taster I have from this book. The sheer beauty that comes from the words paints an incredible vision. The story is incredibly addictive. Not only are the main characters on fire, but the suspense running under their relationship is enough to keep you on edge throughout. You may think you have summed up what is going on, but it's definitely not that straightforward, and the curves thrown throughout are pretty intense!! I don't really need to comment on the writing style of this book as I am a HUGE Vanessa Fewings fan, and she NEVER disappoints. Her style is spot on. Beautiful, gripping and sheer reading addiction. I can't really explain how much her writing manages to pull you in, you have to read for yourself and experience it. You won't be disappointed.

100% Loving this world and story, and actually glad I only have to wait until August for next installment, as I badly need more Zara and Tobias!! 5 Huge stars.

Exclusive Excerpt:

This week has been particularly quiet in the office, and as much as I hate to admit it, I’d even take an encounter with Owen at this point. Yep, be careful what you wish for.

The door to the office opens and I sense him before I hear him. Maybe it’s that I smell him. Not smell in a gross way, but a way that is like some weird mating call. I’m sure there’s a name for that but I can’t think of it because there he is, walking toward me in a pair of khaki cargo shorts, a sleeveless T-shirt that, thanks to the sweat on his body, is clinging to his torso and chiseled chest, and a pair of sunglasses sitting atop his head. That smile I mentioned taking over his face as he gets closer to my desk has me quickly looking away in embarrassment. I know he can tell that he affects me. I know my tell-tale giveaway to embarrassment has completely taken over my arms, neck, and cheeks in a glorious shade of strawberry.

“Well, Miss Walker, fancy meeting you here.”

“Oh, hey.” I don’t take my eyes from my screen and very diligently read the same line over and over. Why does he make me nervous? I don’t get nervous.

“Here are some invoices for you and I signed off on the time cards for my crew.”

I finally lift my eyes from my screen to see Owen sitting in the chair in front of my desk, leaning back so he is rocking on the back two legs of the chair, with his arms crossed, and a smirk on his face. The same smirk he usually offers me before not so subtlety suggesting something flirtatious.

“Thanks. Checks will be ready Monday as usual. Was there anything else?”

“What’re your plans this weekend? Date with your boyfriend? Painting your nails with the squirt?”

Clicking the save icon on the spreadsheet I’m working on, I sit back in my seat, crossing my feet at the ankle while folding my arms, and contemplating how to answer this. He’s trying to get to know me and I promised myself I’d be open to new friendships. Owen Butler is a lot of things, and while I’m not sure he’s completely harmless, I doubt he’s much more than talk.

“No boyfriend,” I casually respond before whispering under my breath, “anymore.”

“What? Some schmuck let you go? What a loser.”

I snort out a laugh; I guess my whisper was louder than I thought. The more I’ve thought about my relationship with Kent, the more appropriate a word like “schmuck” is a perfect way to describe him. Boring, self-absorbed, career driven, and missionary style are also other ways.

“Well anyway, I’m actually going to just hang out this weekend. The girls are going with my parents and it’ll be the first time in weeks I’ve had time to myself. How about you? Got a date?”

Owen chokes on what I think was supposed to be a laugh, startling me a little while simultaneously sending a little shiver down my spine to my lady bits. His voice is deep and gravelly, as is his attempt to laugh, almost like he doesn’t do it very often and his vocal cords don’t know how to respond.

“Yeah, I don’t date. Hook up maybe, but dating indicates I’m interested in a relationship and that’s not the case.”

“I hear ya. A relationship is the last thing on my mind these days.”

We sit in silence for a few ticks before Owen clears his throat and rests his chair on all four feet. I follow suit by sitting up more in my chair and grabbing my mouse. A few clicks and Owen stands and then taps the top of my monitor.

“You should call the girls.”

I look up at him, slightly confused, but not before acknowledging the sweat has dried from his torso while his shirt still clings to his skin. He must notice my gaze has lingered a little longer than necessary because he offers me that smirk again.

“Sorry, the girls - Piper and Ashton. Me and the guys are heading to the lake for a little fishing so I’m sure they’re around.”

“Oh." The realization of how much my life has changed in the last few months struck me; when he said “the girls,” I thought of my nieces. "Yeah, uh, maybe.”

“Well, all right then. Have a good weekend, Minnesota. See ya next week.”

I don’t bother asking Owen to not call me by my full name. I know he knows it’s not my preference. And honestly, for whatever reason, it doesn’t bother me when he says it. I would never tell him that, but it’s true.

OUR REVIEW:

"Accidental relationship, 5 stars"

Minnesota (Minnie) just got out of a long term relationship. She firmly thinks she doesn't need a man. All she wants to do is take care of her nieces while her sister is away and settle into the new life she found for them. She finds she loves her job which is way more low key then what she was doing, making legitimate friends, and life is good. Except for one small hiccup, Owen. He's everything she has never gone for in a man, yet she can't help but be drawn to him. Maybe he's the perfect fling.

Owen has never had a relationship with a woman longer than six weeks. He is the perfect description of a guy with commitment issues. Owen is a love em and leave em type, but he always makes sure he loves them good before he gets his fix. When he first meets Minnie he is instantly attracted to her and can't help but flirt with her. When the woman that his late night fantasies revolve around, offers herself up on a silver platter how can he say no?

Owen and Minnie soon realize that they aren't all about sex. Somewhere along the lines feelings were developed and friendship was formed. Will the bachelor finally settle down or will he miss out on the chance of forever?

These two are spicy. I loved the dialog with these guys. The chemistry was off the charts, can you say hello sexual tension? Plus if you've followed the series you get a little bit of the other characters we have grown to know. If not don't worry, you don't need to read the other two books before this one.

REVIEW - True to You - Jodi Watters

TITLE - True to You
AUTHOR - Jodi Watters

BLURB:

Some people said that love and hate couldn't coexist. That such polarizing emotions could never be assigned to one singular thing at the same time. That much like roller coasters or Brussels sprouts, you either felt love or you felt hate, but never both. Common ground was nowhere to be found, forcing a person to pick a side.

Olivia Quinn would tell those people they'd never met Asher Coleson.

Never met him. Never touched him. Never loved him.

And never hated him.

Asher Coleson hadn't always lived his life from the outside looking in. That neat little trick of the mind started somewhere around four years ago. Right about the time he'd gone to sleep one night living the American dream, and woken up the next morning in his own private nightmare.

Considering he was a front-lines defender of that American dream, it was irony at its best.

But that didn't change his life story.

Magic to tragic, in less time than it took paint to dry.

REVIEW:

"True love prevails, 5 stars"

First off let me say that Jodi is a new to me author. I had never heard of her but the cover drew me in and the blurb sealed the deal. When I read True To You I fell into the story, I was submerged and there was no stopping until the end. I absolutely loved it.

This story has a small military aspect to it that hits so close to home for me, because my husband is military that I got it. I straight up understood where Olivia came from at times. It was beautiful, heartbreaking, yet proved that in the end if you're willing to work for it true love will win.

Olivia is a true southern girl. Shortly after getting to California she meets Ash, her bosses son. It is the definition of a fast past romance. They spend more time apart then they do together (which totally hits home to me, the first couple of years with my husband was similar) yet they work. Ash and Olivia experience a loss that I would never wish upon another. It destroys them, Olivia is filled with hate and contempt. When your husband lives for his job and you feel like your second fiddle I can see where leaving would be easy, but does she really leave?

Ash is the definition of an elite soldier. He has a wife that he sees when he's rarely stateside and for him life is good. But when tragedy strikes sometimes the fixer can't really fix anything. He spends years paying what he feels like is his penance. But what happens when your penance is up? Do you get the happily ever after?

I fell and I fell hard for Ash and Liv.  Maybe it was because I know people who have went through something similar but I was rooting for them hard. Once I started True To You I couldn't stop. I was sucked in and invested. I want to go back and read the stories that come before this one, heck I plan on following the series through because I became invested in the rest of the group. The story was so real to me that I wanted to cry when they cried and shout when they shouted. It was completely captivating to me and I would recommend this story to someone looking for a feels all book.

Here are a couple quotes that stuck to me during True To You;

11: 06 a.m. I love the way you touch me after a deployment. Insistent, but gentle. Like I’m fine glassware you covet, but are afraid to use.

“I sorta have a thing for you, and it won’t go away. You set the bar. No other man will ever measure up. Some think they can. One or two wanna try. But it doesn’t matter what they do or how well they do it. They can’t be you.”
