Release Blitz & Review - Still Waters - Anne Malcom

Title: Still Waters
Series: Greenstone Security #1
Author: Anne Malcom
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 31, 2017

Blurb

There’s a phrase: Still waters run deep.

But there’s more to it than that.

Because "still" doesn’t denote peace. Nor calm. Nor happiness.

It’s an illusion. It's chaos.

The only way to handle chaos is to become it.

That’s what Lucy did. She created stillness out of the chaos tumbling inside her and called the most chaotic motorcycle club in the United States her family.

The Sons of Templar gave her chaos, friendship, family, danger and death.

But she wouldn't want it any other way.

Then he came. The one who showed her that her handle on chaos was tumultuous at best.

Showed her how to stand still.

And how good it could be.

And how drowning in those waters comes as easy as breathing.

OUR REVIEW:

Still Waters was an okay book. It had some wonderful aspects to it, but it also had some areas that could be improved. This book is hard to describe because so much is going on. It is an instalove novel, so if you don’t like those, this book is not for you. The author actually states that in the beginning of the book. This book has a lot of drama going on in it as well. If I had to choose an overall theme, it would be confronting ones’ demons.

The plot of this book, well there was more than one. The author did split this book up into two parts, which did make things a bit better. If I had to describe this plot in just a couple of sentences, I would say that this book is about a man and woman who see something in each other that they can relate to. This leads to them to explore this connection, but can they each face their demons and come together? Or will it tear
them apart? That’s really as simple as I can state it. I like the plots of this book, but felt they should have been separated and written in separate books.

The characters of this book were okay, but at some points annoying. At first, Lucy seems like a badarse chick with an attitude. I really liked her character, but as the story continued on, she became annoying. I did not feel she was really developing at all. I felt like she was stuck in this cycle that she could not get out of. Keltan was another character that I really wanted to love. He was amazing during the first parts of the book and I felt he really developed throughout the book, but I also found him annoying at times. It was like his alpha male attitude went a little too far. Overall, the characters were ok, but could improve.

The heat in this book, well that’s one thing the author did not miss on. Some scenes in this book are downright steamy. Others you can feel the tension between the characters. It is like you are just waiting for them to come together because you know the result will be beautiful. The author did an awesome job with the heat in this book.

The writing style of this book was pretty good. I really liked how the author wrote. It was a nice narrative. The story is told from single point of view, which I don’t mind. The pace of the book changed drastically. At times it would move quickly, then it would feel like it would pause, then slowly start moving again. There were also more than one time jump in the story. One of them I could really see the need for, but some of the others I felt were unnecessary. One in particular is where I would have separated this book into two books. Other than that I enjoyed it.

Overall, this book has the potential to be amazing, but I feel it just fell short for me. It had a lot of good aspects, but definitely could use some improvement. I hope in the future, the author decides to break this book into two and takes more time to develop each plot. I feel this will dramatically affect the story in a wonderful way.

REVIEW:

Taking Chances is about 19 year old Libby, whose world turned upside down when her best friend, Mia got killed in a car accident. Mia's boyfriend, Mitch lied to Libby about only having 1 beer and he was driving them home. Well Libby is the only one that made it out alive.

Now she is having nightmares about the accident and her parents encourage her to visit her Aunt Claire and Uncle Ryan in Texas. That's when she meets a handsome cowboy named Mason.

Libby of course blames herself for what happened and now is afraid to take any chances. She already lost her best friend she doesn't want to lose someone else.
Mason had a troubled past and was afraid it would stear Libby away. He was a true southern gentleman towards Libby.

Both Libby and Mason have a thing for each other, but not sure if they want to see what that thing is, as Libby is only there for a little while. They both open up to each other and something happens, but Libby can't take any chances and heads back home. Will she take the chance and fall in love with Mason? You'll have to read to find out!

Laura Farr is a new to me author. I was so into this book that before I knew it, there were no pages left to turn. I felt like the characters in this story can be real and people could relate to them. I did get emotional while reading this story.

Fave Quotes:

"She thought that I should live in reality and not between the pages of some book."

"Ahh, no wonder you were so captivated, you were reading your naughty book."

"I know you want to be just friends, but I'm struggling with that sweetheart......"

Sometimes you have to wonder if someone knows something you don’t. You think your life is full and you think you're happy, until someone proves you otherwise.
That's exactly what happened to Brock.

Brock couldn’t figure out for the life of him why his best friend made him the Guardian of his daughter. It wasn’t that he was a bad guy, it's just he didn’t know his friend had a daughter. When Ivy walks up he knows he's in for trouble.

EXCERPT

She clings to me like a second skin once we’re on the highway. Riding with
her plastered against my back, her pussy pressed against my ass is like the
best foreplay ever. I wish I could take advantage of the build up when we
get home. There’s nothing I like better than to fuck after riding.

By the time I park the bike in the garage and put both helmets away, Ivy is
already inside the house. Removing my boots at the door, I walk to the
kitchen in search of a beer. It’s hot as hell out there, today.

Ivy’s in the kitchen drinking water from a bottle, her head tipped back
exposing her smooth neck. I stop in my tracks, looking her over from her
wind blown hair all the way down to her sexy little feet.

She finishes her drink and notices me there. A smile breaks out over her
face and she rapidly closes the distance between us. “I had so much fun,
Brock,” she smiles and throws her arms around my neck. My arms wrap around
her like they have a mind of their own and my hands caress up and down the
middle of her back. Each time they get dangerously close to her ass.

She lifts her head from my chest and stares at my lips. It’s an invitation
that’s impossible to miss and impossible to turn down. Leaning forward, I
brush our mouths together and pause, waiting for her to change her mind.
Her hands on the back of my neck urge me down to kiss her again. Slamming
our lips together with an out of control need, I grip strands of her hair
between my fingers and hold her head in place.

Our tongues tangle and she wiggles her sexy little body against me. Her
nipples brush back and forth on my chest making my cock hard as nails. My
hands release her hair and trail down to cup her round ass. I scoop her up
as if she weighs no more than a feather. She wraps her legs around my hips
and rubs her pussy against my cock. Two steps bring me to the kitchen
counter where I set her down. Our mouths never lose contact. We’ve both
been fighting this attraction since day one. We kiss as if we’re starved
for each other. This moment was inevitable.

Her hands slip under my t-shirt, her fingers tease my skin along the
waistband of my jeans. Fuck. I want her so bad. I want to strip us both of
all our clothes and impale her on my cock. I want to fuck her harder than
Jude or anyone else ever has. Instead, I catch her hands in mine, pulling
them behind her back. “Lean back on your palms,” I tell her, guiding them
to the counter. She listens and it makes me want her even more. The
position she’s in has her chest thrusting forward. Slowly, I lift her shirt
and then undo her bra. Her naked tits are the hottest I’ve ever seen. The
tips hard and begging for my mouth to close around them. My hands cradle
her as my mouth lowers to take one nipple between my lips. She moans and
arches her back more. Moving to the other nipple I suck the hard tip into
my mouth and then let my tongue circle around it. “Yes,” she gasps.

My hand moves to her stomach, sliding down to toy with the button on her
pants. Glancing down at her, our eyes lock and I can see she wants this as
 bad as I do.

“Please,” she whispers. My fingers undo the button and as my thumb and
index finger grip the tab on her zipper a knock on the front door has me
 freezing in place.

“Don’t stop, Brock,” she begs, but the interruption has the effect of an
ice bucket dumped over my head.

I shake my head. “This never should have happened.” Turning away, I leave
her seated on the counter and head to the front door. Opening it I find
 Jude standing there.

 “Hi, is Ivy here?”

I cross my arms over my chest and shake my head. Just what I fucking need.
This dude sniffing around her again. “Yeah, come in.” I gesture for him to
enter. “I’ll grab her for you.”

I move back toward the kitchen my pace quick. I find Ivy still sitting on
the counter, but her clothes are back in place. “Jude’s here,” I say.

She smiles. “He is?” she questions her face lighting up at the thought of
spending time with him. I scowl. She scoots forward and lowers herself to
the floor in a rush to get to him..

“Ivy,” I call her name. She glances up at me. “Don’t let him put his hands
 on you.”

Excerpt

“Stay, Finn…please,” she mutters, her fat lip wobbling. She’s killing me.

“I can’t, Hope” I shake my head and the heaviness in my heart, the sadness I feel is a fraction of the sorrow I have endured and she knows this. “I wasted ten years of my life with a man who had no intention of marrying me H, and he even took delight in humiliating me about that fact in front of all my friends. He made me feel utterly worthless and now...” I stutter and draw in a fortifying breath, “I have these men and one of them promised to marry me. I get to choose…me, I—” I clamp my mouth shut at my apocalyptic fuck-up.

“Men?” she snaps.

“Man, I meant man.” I wave my hand to dismiss my seemingly silly mistake,

“You said men,” Hope corrects and then gasps. “Finn you didn’t answer that advert?” Her hands fly to her mouth, eyes like saucers and we both suck in a shocked breath.

“I…I…—” I can’t construct a sentence. She steps up to me and interrupts so I don’t have to. I wish she didn’t.

“That’s who you’ve been talking to so secretively these last three months every spare minute. That’s what all this gym shit you’ve been dragging me to morning, noon, and night for the last three months has been all about. It’s because you need to be fit enough to take on four guys?” She stares at me and her mouth is open so wide it’s comical, but I’m not laughing. I’m waiting for the scream, the howl of judgement to rain down on my slutty arse. I draw in a breath and brace.

“Yes.” I tip my chin and time comes to a halt…and continues to halt I frown at my friend, the statue. Her wide emerald eyes are fixed and focused, though I’m not sure on what. I wave my hand in from of her face but she doesn’t flinch. Is it possible to be catatonic standing up?

“Hope? Are you okay? You’re kind of freaking me out.” I look around to see if anyone else is observing my friend’s weird behaviour, but no one is paying us any attention. Well, other than the parking officer who is scowling between Dolly and the No Waiting sign. “Hope!” I hiss a little loud, and she blinks and gives a full body shudder, regaining her senses.

“Four guys?” she asks with a degree of aw in her tone.

I hesitate but answer.

“Yes.”

“At one time?” She arches a brow and her lips begin to curl into a wicked smirk.

“Not necessarily. We haven’t actually gone over the logistics,” I reply, a little straight-laced given the topic, but we’re hardly in a secret-sharing environment.

“But they wanted a twenty year old?”

Her incredulous face pisses me off and I place my hands on my hips and tip my chin, my tone is a little on the defensive side.

“Well, they got a mid-to-late twenty-year-old, that has worked her arse to knock the last several years off her clock…literally.” I straighten my back and subtly tighten my tummy in lieu of drawing in an obvious slimming breath.

“Oh babe, you do. You look smoking hot don’t worry about that.” She pats my arms and flashes her best friend reassuring smile. “No. You need to worry more about the fact that you don’t have enough holes, because babe, that’s something you can’t fix at the gym.” She bites her lip to hold in her trademark filthy laugh, but I crack first and she’s quick to follow. She throws back her head, full on belly aching, dirty laughter falling from her lips, eyes streaming, shaking her head. “Oh my God, you’re going to be kept busy around the cock.” She doubles over at her own joke and waves me down because I think she has another. “They’re in the Forces right? They’re going to want everything to run like cockwork.”

“Okaaaay then, are we finished?” I pat her back as she attempts to regain her composure.

“Sorry. So sorry…too tempting, but you’re right, you have a flight to catch…the cock is ticking. No time to be dicking around now.” She snorts out another laugh.

“Hope.” I sigh.

“Look, Finn. I still think you’re batshit insane, but if you have to go crazy at least you’ll have lots of nuts to keep you company.” She pulls me in for a final hug, but I can see she’s genuinely smiling, and her face is a little wet from her tears, but her expression doesn’t hold any anxiousness or tension. There’s a little worry, but that’s understandable. Maybe I should’ve told her sooner. “I just want you to promise to do one thing for me.” She clears her throat and her tone is soft but serious.

“What’s that?” I ask and wait with bated breath for her to tell me what she’ll need from me to ease her mind, and if it’s anything within my power. She hesitates a moment before her shoulders start to shake.

“Pictures…I want lots of pictures.” She snickers some more.

“I’m gone. I’ll call you when I land.” I turn on my heel and start to push the half-tonne trolley away from my best, but annoying friend.

“With pictures!” she calls after me.

“Sure, with pictures.” I turn my back to the trolley, so I’m facing her but pushing the beast up the ramp, away from the cars.

“You go, girl. Take one for the team! Oh wait, no. Take four with the team!” she shouts over the entire departures drop-off area, with the volume of a crowd control foghorn.

OUR REVIEW:

Oh My Wow! What can I say about Wanted? It sure surprised the heck out of me not just once, not even twice, but three fricking times! Man I sure wasn’t expecting a book like this one. This book has love, brotherhood, family, grief, and lots and lots of steam. I am honestly hoping this author writes another book for these characters because I just couldn’t get enough.

Okay so I am going to start by saying I thought this book was about something completely different when I agreed to review it. Surprise one was that it was WAY different than what I expected. I was skeptical at first because this book is outside my norm. Boy oh boy am I glad I kept reading it though. I don’t want to give away much so I will just say this about the plot. This story is about more than what you think it is. The story itself is such a beautiful and wonderful one if you look into the meaning behind it all. I loved this about this book. Surprise two and three would give away important parts of the book, but let’s just say I was damn surprised by the ending.

There isn’t just two main characters in this book. There are five. Now that seems like a lot, but it was actually done quite wonderfully. It gives us a chance to get to know each character and learn to fall for each of them. I loved Finn. She is such a wonderful character. She has real life insecurities, but still has sass and is a strong woman. I loved her character. Then you have the boys, Pink, Toxic, Tug, and Charge. I loved each one of these characters. While each of these characters play a main part, you find out quickly that two of them play a bigger part than the rest.

Heat? Oh my was there tons and tons of heat. I felt my cheeks blush each time I got to some of the steamy parts. Whew was it hot. My husband at one point took one look at my face and ask me what kind of book I was reading to make me turn that read. With all this being said, I think this part was done perfectly. I did not feel any of the scenes seemed inorganic or forced. I felt every scene had a specific purpose to the story.

The writing style of this book is unique. Most of the book is told from Finn’s point of view. We also get parts of the story from each of the boys as well. The pace was steady, but not too slow or fast. I liked the way the author wrote. My only complaint is I wish I could have read more during some of the time lapses in the book. There are certain scenes I would have loved to have read that were missing. While this did not take away from the book, it would have been an added bonus for readers.

Overall, I loved this book. I cannot even believe how much I fell in love with these characters. I really can’t wait to read more from this author and hopefully in the future she will write more about these amazing characters. 100% would recommend this book to others.
