nightmares review 350x210

Dryden Nightmares is a collection of stories from different authors. In the beginning of the book, there is a disclaimer stating the purpose of this book. It explains that this book is part of an experiment that allows other writers to read and add onto these stories or scenes and as long as they credit the original developer and put their items under the same license to allow others to add onto their story.  You can read the full description when you get the book. I really like this concept. Some of the items in this book is a short story while others are just scenes. I think it allows readers and especially amateur writers to take a chance and try to add to the story in a creative way. This is a wonderful idea to help promote authors and allow them to publish ideas they might have that they cannot figure out how to turn into a story.
Since there are several different authors and subjects in this book, I cannot specially discuss plots. I will say that the theme of this book is horror and these authors did an amazing job writing in a way that the reader can feel the creepiness of the stories. There is one that stuck out in my head that was just a scene, but the eerie feeling was not lost in the short amount of time. It reminded me of an article I read about 2 sentence horror stories where it is pretty much the creepiest thing you have ever read, but it is only 2 sentences. It is really nice to see that authors can bring that feeling using minimal words.
Overall, this is a wonderful short story collection that I can see being used to create longer, more wonderful stories. I felt that I was inside these peoples head and felt the horror and fear from reading their thoughts and actions. I am still creeped out by some of the things I read, but in a good way. It is nice when such few words and short scenes can cause such an emotional reaction in a reader. I cannot wait to see what comes from these short stories.

Release Blitz & Review - Tapping The Billionaire by Max Monroe

Title - Tapping The Billionaire
Author - Max Monroe

Synopsis

Blind dates? Online dating profiles? Been there, done that.

Georgia Cummings has zero luck with dating, and the era of the internet is not her friend.
No matter how fast she runs, how many corners she turns, she can’t find her way out of this weird, alternate universe where men think dick pics are a replacement for small talk and getting to know a girl. One more crotch selfie and she might write men off for good…

But why can’t she stop fantasizing about him?

Kline Brooks is the quintessential billionaire bad boy—dark, styled, short hair, muscles for days, and a panty-dropping smile.
Except—he isn’t.

As his employee, he won’t touch her with a ten foot pole.
But she won’t touch him either.

Too bad their hormones missed the memo.

Our Review

Tapping the Billionaire is a wonderfully written romantic comedy novel. Max Monroe did an amazing job when writing this book. Not only are there ups and downs, but some of the scenes are so funny that I had to literally stop reading I was laughing so hard.  If you want a really well written book with lots of heat and comedy, then please stop what you are doing and buy this book now =]
The plot of this book seems fairly similar to other billionaire books. A girl meets a wealthy billionaire and sparks fly. With that being said, this book adds layers to this boring old plot and breathes new life into it. It is not just a simple boy meets girl plot. There is a lot of complication and a unique plot twist that stirs the pot for these characters. Not only are the main characters effected, the minor characters feel the ripple from the huge buildup and climax of the story.
The main female character, Georgia, is an independent woman who has a good job and one hell of a feisty attitude. I love her character and I love that she is not a poor helpless woman who needs saving.  Kline is our billionaire. He is described as sexy yet calm and collected. I loved watching him develop and learning more about him. These two separate are wonderful characters, but when you put these two together you get one explosive relationship.

The writing style of this book is dual point of view so readers are able to read from both Georgia and Kline’s point of view. I loved being able to learn more about the characters and watching the other characters learn these parts later on in the book. It is like I get to glimpse a present for someone before they open it. It makes me more giddy and excited for the other person. I also really loved the way the author wrote the minor characters. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series, which I believe will follow one if not two of the minor characters.

The heat in this book cannot be matched. There were some scenes so hot that I could actually feel my face blush. There is one scene in particular that I will just label the pool scene that is extremely sexy and sensuous. That would have to be my favorite scene in the whole book.
These two characters have so much chemistry that readers can feel it. This is a wonderful sensation to get from books as it allows readers to feel as if they are really inside the book.

Overall, I loved this book. There was not one negative thing I could find in this book. I was laughing through so much of the book I had little time to stop and dissect grammar or any other nuisances I usually tend to catch. This is a thoroughly enjoyable book that I would 100 percent recommend to family and friends. Even if you took away the heat this book would be amazing just because of all the humor. This is one book I will not soon forget. Kudos Max Monroe for writing such an amazing book.

OUR REVIEW

Kelly left home right after graduation and never went back. She did everything she could to hide her old life including changing her name to Chloe. What does one do when they are hiding secrets of their own? Dig up other peoples dirty laundry of course.
When blood soaked lace starts randomly appearing with a count down to her wedding Chole is afraid her past is finally catching up to her. So what does one do in this situation do? Go home of course to where it all started. Only the threat may be a whole lot closer then she realizes.
I enjoyed Secrets and Lace. The only thing I didn’t care for was the fact this book ends on a cliffhanger. I personally would have liked for the full story upfront, but thats just me and my personal preference. I do plan on reading the next installment.
If you read a lot of mysteries then you will probably pick up on who Choles stalker is around half way through the book. With that said you should still enjoy this book. There were a few twists that I didnt see coming. Secrets and Lace is well written which is always nice.
Here are a few quotes from the book I liked;
“My fiancé, my husband, was a man who didn't exist. He was never real.”
“By the time I’m done with you, you’ll wish you were never born. It’s best you prepare yourself.”

REVIEW - Acquisitions by Tania Joyce

Title - Acquisitions (Strictly Business Book 2)
Author - Tania Joyce

Synopsis

A new start. A short term project. That’s all it was meant to be.

Losing his wife in a car accident has left Troy Smith doubtful of ever finding love again. He’s tried, but failed. Now he thinks he’s found solace as a hard-working business partner at Gumtrees Winery.

Kelleigh Johnstone needs a break from dealing with the mess and debt her fraudulent ex-boyfriend left behind. The opportunity to manage a project in the Hunter Valley seems like the perfect escape.

When these two strangers meet, a one-night stand delivers unexpected surprises. Troy is shocked when he finds out Kelleigh represents the company trying to purchase his vineyard for a new golf resort. In order to protect his home and community, Troy must do whatever it takes to stop the project from proceeding.

Kelleigh and Troy may be on opposite sides of the boardroom table, but when they are together the attraction is hard to deny. With livelihoods at stake and broken hearts vulnerable, who will risk everything for another chance at love?

What I thought

I was thrilled that Tania got in touch and asked if I wanted to read this as I’ve read book 1 in the series and liked it!
Acquisitions is about a guy named Troy Smith. Troy is a viticulturist. He doesn’t want to be in love again because he doesn’t want to hurt anyone or get hurt. It’s better to be single.   That is until Kalleigh Johnstone shows up on a work related project. She is a project engineer leader for JLR and something just doesn’t feel right about her boss, Toru, he was hiding something.   As the story unfolds, you meet other supporting characters that are vital to this story. Tania’s writing is detailed and it flows nicely. I like the setting of where this story takes place and the characters.   My favorite are obviously the two main characters, Troy and Kalleigh. I was rooting for them to be together from the beginning.   My least favorite character is Toru, Kalleigh’s boss. I was so happy when she stood up to him and said she had proof of him lying about the results.

Parts of the story I liked”

“We were wondering…if you’d be interested in becoming a business partner with us. Buy in and invest into the future of Gumtrees.”

“You’ve done more for this place in the past few years than we’ve done in twenty. We don’t know whether it’s because you spend all that time talking to the vines, but the vineyard is performing beyond our expectations. You’re great with guests and you help out with running the place. You’ve become part of the landscape around here and we’d like to keep it that way.”

“I never anticipated meeting someone like you and never expected the odds to stack against us. The night we spent together was the most amazing time I’ve ever had in my life, but my work has put us in opposition. My past hangs over my head. My time here is only temporary. In consideration of all these factors, I thought it best to stay away from you. I didn’t’ want to lead you on, didn’t want to get hurt and didn’t want to like you as much as I do. My frustrations got the better of me last night, but that’s no excuse for hitting you. I mean it when I say I’m sorry.”

I like the ending as well.

REVIEW - Reprise (Ruby Riot #3) - Lisa Swallow

TITLE - Reprise (Ruby Riot #3)

AUTHOR - Lisa Swallow

BLURB:

Drummer Nate Campbell is a 'Ruby Riot twin' and that's all he wants anybody to know. For Nate, girls are a dispensable distraction and the rock star life suits his needs. Nobody will expect him to hand over his heart if he pretends he doesn't have a one.

Falling for Nate Campbell was the second biggest mistake of Riley Sawyer's life. When the PR girl worked with the band on a European tour, she earned a reputation as an unapproachable workaholic. One mistake with Nate ruined her reputation, and Riley left vowing never to go anywhere near a tour – or Nate – again.

Two years later, Riley is forced back into the Ruby Riot world. A stolen car, a snowstorm, and Nate's bloody-mindedness leave the pair stranded together. Nate and Riley cross their thin line between love and hate and discover a connection they don’t want to leave behind when the snow retreats.

Nate knows Riley’s the girl for him but doesn't want to risk handing her the heart he hides. Riley wants to leave behind her secrets to move on and find love. The problem is, she wants Nate and doesn’t think he can ever be hers – or anybody’s.

MY REVIEW:

I feel so fickle. With each Ruby Riot band member that I read about, I change my favourite. Even though I still compare them to Blue Phoenix members too. Nate is no exception to the rule, I really thought his twin brother Will was my fave when I read Shuffle, yet here I am weighing up who I prefer, again. *sigh*

Reprise is Nate's story, and he was always the band member I thought was the most 'jack the lad' of them all. He was a joker. Loved to play around in and out of the sheets, seemed to have no interest in settling down, and forever taking the p*** out of his brother and band mates, for being crazy in love. Well this time it's his turn, and we get to be surprised again, at just how different Nate really can be, compared to what we assumed.

This time, Nate has met his match in Reprise with Riley. We already met her on and off in the other stories, as she is part of the PR team for Ruby Riot. And it's obvious something has already gone on between her and Nate, in the past, we don't quite know what, but we are going to find out all in their story.

The chemistry is amazing in this book, as with all of the Ruby Riot books. Edge of your seat with 'will they, won't they' moments. Nate and Riley bounce off each other, and both of them give as good they get, when things start to get heated. But there are huge secrets wedged between these two, and it's going to be intense working out what.

Incorporating addictive characters with an incredible plot, giggling one minute, gasping the next, and you have a trademark Lisa Swallow book. The only question I'm left with is, what's next in the Rock world of Blue Phoenix and Ruby Riot? I don't think I can cope if they have all told their stories, and are finished. I need my fix now. :-/

Favourite Quotes:

The worst part of all this? When Riley isn't around, there's an emptiness inside I've never noticed existed, one that was filled with bitterness and mistrust until I let her in. The speed with which my heart's changed direction terrifies me; if I didn't see the same in Riley, I'd push her away right now.

"How can I explain how much I suddenly want somebody else? All I know is that when I lost you this time, it hurt a hell of a lot more than before. Than anybody before."

"I fell in love with that broken Nate because I thought he wanted me to fix him."

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

LisaSwallow

Lisa is an Amazon bestselling author of contemporary and paranormal romance. She is originally from the UK and moved to Australia in 2001. She now lives in Perth, Western Australia with her husband, three children, and Weimaraner, Tilly, who often makes appearances on Lisa’s social media.

Lisa’s first publication was a moving poem about the rain, followed by a suspenseful story about shoes. Following these successes at nine years old there was a long gap in her writing career, until she published her first book in 2013.

In the past, Lisa worked as an English teacher in France, as an advertising copywriter in England, and ran her own business in Australia. Now she spends her days with imaginary rock stars.

She lived in Europe as a child and also travelled when she left university. This has given Lisa stories which would sound far-fetched if she wrote them down, and maybe one day she will. These days, Lisa is happy in her writing cave, under Tilly’s supervision.

Release Blitz - Hell on Heels by Anne Jolin

HELL ON HEELS by Anne Jolin
Genre: Women's Fiction Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 26, 2016
— SYNOPSIS —
I use people. Not in a malicious way, but in the way an addict abuses their substance of choice. People are my vice—men specifically. I crave the emotional high they give me with a unique and reckless disregard for my own well-being—eagerly floating into an unsustainable euphoria, knowing full well that after every high comes an equal, if not more powerful, plummet into a devastating abyss. But like every junkie, I crawl willingly back into the arms of my demons.

Oh, the price we pay to feel loved. We’d all sell our souls to the devil himself for that. Perhaps I have already.

They say that acknowledging that you have a problem is one of the first steps to recovery. Well, in that case, my name is Charleston Smith and I have a fucking problem.

— EXCERPT
“I’m ruined.” Kevin pouted, plopping down into one of the two patterned high-back chairs in front of my desk.

Fishing my cellphone out, I dropped my purse into the bottom drawer of the massive and incredibly overpriced desk, and placed the palms of my hands onto its distressed white surface.

“He’s so hot,” Kevin continued without delay. “I mean, I follow him on Instagram, but wow-ee! I want little blonde Abercrombie babies with him,” he rattled on, waving his hands in the air. “And Man Bun is like yum with a shot of dangerous, like you just know he’d wake up your neighbours. I’d like to call him Daddy—”

“Jesus.” I shook my head.

Kevin stirred, pulling his perfectly crafted eyebrows together. “What’s he doing here anyways? Are we planning one of his parties?”

Beau Callaway was notoriously known for hosting some of the best campaign parties.

“No. He’s expressed interest in sponsoring the Gala.”

Uncrossing his legs, Kevin’s eyes softened as he leaned forward. “The Gala is this Saturday. Can we manage another sponsor this late in the game?”

The emotions on my face war—they often did this close to the gala—and he noticed. Kevin was as perceptive as he was fabulous.

“Right then. I’ll make it work.” He stood. “Want me to fetch the dream boat for you, boss?”

I nodded. “Please.”

Without another word, he sashayed out the door and my nerves filled up the space he left behind.

I was nervous. Men in general made me nervous until I knew my way around them, but having someone like Beau in my space and here, regarding the gala no less, made me edgy.

I didn’t often mix business with pleasure, as I was messy with one and not the other. Though it’d been nearly three months since my last duet with a man and I was jonesing for a high this close to the gala.

The gala that honoured the memory of Henry.

My addiction prickled at the back of my neck.

— ABOUT THE AUTHOR: ANNE JOLIN
Hey y’all,
I was born and raised in Ladner, a small farm town just outside Vancouver, Canada. I grew up riding horses, shooting guns, and driving in trucks.

I never expected to be an author. A massage therapist? Yes. Take over the family construction company? Yes. But an author? No. Writing was something that snuck up on me and rooted itself into my life. It was beautiful to discover that love, and I’m truly grateful to say I’ve found my passion.

Since I’ve always been a creative person, it feels amazing to harness all of that energy and use it to tell a story I love. I enjoy incorporating bits of my real life into the stories I write. What parts are true? Hah. I’ll never tell—what would be the fun in that?

If I could leave y’all with one thing, it’s that life’s far too short to not live it out loud. Drown in your passions, hold on tight to the things that inspire you, and chase your dreams relentlessly. I can promise you without a doubt that you won’t regret it. I know I don’t.

Mad love,
Anne Jolin
xx

RELEASE MAY 10TH

They say in order to find yourself you have to go home.
What if home was what you're running from?
Where did that leave you?
Always on the other side of the fence.
Always looking in.
Always wishing you were someone you couldn't be.
Until one day you meet her.
The one.
She was my high, but she was also...

My demise.

Colors blended together making it hard to focus on one thing. I blinked a few times and just like that…
I saw her face.
As if she was standing right in front of me.
Smiling.
Happy.
Laughing.
My whole world…
My girl.
I felt my lips curl up slightly at the vision as I reached out for her. Wanting to touch her, needing to hold her, yearning to kiss her. Craving, God, craving to fucking love her.
“I’m sorry,” I murmured out loud to no one but the illusion of my drug-infested mind. “I’m so fucking sorry,” I repeated repentantly, longing for her to believe me.
Aching for her to love me again like she used to.
I don’t know how long I sat there, staring at her beautiful face before my eyes, subconsciously rubbing the tattooed key that was placed over my heart. I couldn’t take it anymore, and the desire won over the haze.
It was too powerful.
It was too vivid.
I grabbed my phone. “Baby,” I said into the speaker. The ringing quickly followed, going straight to voicemail. I hung up and tried again. “Baby,” I urged with desperation in my tone.
Still nothing.
I tried again and again and again.
I would try until the end of time if that’s what it took for her to answer.
To talk to me.
To save me.
To crave me.
Time just seemed to standstill, as my life slowly played out in front of me. Trying to balance in between the light and the darkness when all I could see was gray.
“What?!” she screamed into the phone, finally answering after I don’t know how many failed attempts. “What the hell do you want now?”
“Mi cielo.” I breathed a sigh of relief.
She ignored my term of endearment. I hadn’t called her that in such a long time.
My heaven.
“What do you want, Austin? Why are you calling me? We’re over! I can’t do this anymore!”
I shut my eyes and let my mind wonder, allowing it to go to another place in time where she didn’t hate me.
“I remember the first time I made you smile,” I chuckled, as if it had just happened.
My nerves were on fire. The mere sound of her breathing through the phone was too intense for me. I licked my lips, my mouth suddenly dry.
“I remember when you used to smile just for me. Do you remember, baby? Do you remember what my love feels like?”
I heard her faintly breathing.
“Do you remember my hands on you? My lips? My tongue? The first time I made you come with my mouth? Do you remember all the times since? Tell me I’m not forgotten. Tell me you remember, baby.”
Silence.
“I love you, Briggs. I love you so fucking much. You’re killing me, don’t you see that? I’m dying without you.”
“No, Austin. You were dying with me,” she rasped, knowing that it killed her to say that.
“The first time I saw your face, I thought to myself, damn, this beautiful girl is goin’ to be the death of me. You were perfect in every way. I was a cocky son of a bitch who needed you then, as much as I need you now.”
More silence.
“I had a dream about you, baby. I always fucking dream about you. In my dream you had a ring on your finger. A ring I put there. You belonged to me. Only mine. Forever fucking mine. You were pregnant, Briggs. You looked so goddamn happy. I saw light at the end of the tunnel for the first time in years.”
She sniffled into the phone.
“I made love to you. Slow, just the way you love. Taking my time to touch every last inch of your body. Memorizing every last bit of you. Making you come until you begged me to stop. I didn’t.”
“I can’t—” she tried to interject, but I didn’t let up.
“I kissed your stomach. Our baby. Letting my lips linger there, whispering sweet lullabies, letting her know daddy will always be there. Baby, it was so real. For a second I gave you the one thing you so desperately wanted, the one thing I can’t give you.”
