REVIEW - The End Zone - LJ Shen

TITLE - The End Zone
AUTHOR - L.J. Shen

Releases April 3rd

Blurb:

Part of Team Player: A Sports Romance Anthology.

Jolie Louis is a smart girl. She knows that her best friend, Sage Poirier, is a bad idea. He’s a walking, talking cliché. The Adonis quarterback with the bulging biceps and harem of fangirls trailing behind him on campus like a stench you can’t get rid of. Sadly, that’s also the reason she can’t stay away from him. Well, that and the fact that they’re roommates.

Jolie is already straddling the line between friendship and more when Sage comes to her with an offer she cannot refuse: be his fake girlfriend and live for free for the rest of the semester. She tells herself that she can handle it. He’s just the boy she saved ten years ago, right? Wrong. So very wrong. He is a man now, and she is his captive Heart, body, and soul…

Johnaka's Review:

“Friends to lovers, 5 stars”

The End Zone is a sweet friend to lover’s novella that was part of the Team Players anthology, only this version has an extended epilogue. Its sweet, its fun, and it makes you smile.

It has all the makings of a full love story but with the novella page count. It will have your kindle hot with heat between the two and enough swoon to put you into a coma. Enjoy!

OUR REVIEW:

Was it worth the risk? Worth Every Risk is a decent novel. The plot was interesting and characters were written well. If you like a novel with a bunch of drama, some scandal, and some shocking twists, then you have come to the right place. This book has all of that within its pages.

The plot of this book seemed interesting. The blurb was perfect to draw readers in. This plot was written well, but it has it’s issues. I felt like there was too many subplots within the plot. This became confusing to me because I wasn’t sure what I should be focused on. I did like the overall plot of the book though. It kept me intrigued throughout.

The characters in this book were interesting. Andi is an independent woman who is very strong willed. I would venture to say she is one of the most stubborn characters that I have ever read. With that being said, she also has insecurities. I didn’t care for her too much for a good portion of the book. I found her immature and selfish. This changed through the book though. Chase was a good character. I loved the realistic reactions from him to certain situations. I also loved how he had some really male like responses as well. My only complaint is I feel he gave in too soon. That’s all I can say at this time.

The heat in this book was written really well. There were some sweet parts, but there were also some really dirty parts. These two characters have history which is sure to increase the chemistry between the two. Add in some secrets and lies, and you have the recipe for some hot banging sure to entertain. This aspect of the book was perfect for me.

The writing style is okay. I was disappointed with how some of the characters handled things. The writing didn’t seem fluid either. The pace of the book was all over the place. Sometimes it would be almost too slow then we would have huge time jumps. I felt like the authors had trouble filling in the story between all the major plot points.

Overall, this was a decent book. It had some good structure, just missed the spot when it came to execution. The characters were entertaining and interesting. This book did cause me to tear up a time or two which is why I am giving it three stars. I don’t think I would go back and reread this book, but it was enough to keep me interested enough to read late into the night.

OUR REVIEWS:

Johnaka's Review:

“Bad boy and the good girl, 3 stars”

So, I read Royal Rebel right after reading Royal Ruin and I will admit it was better. Peterson’s writing was better this time around compared to the first, not much but some. There were still times I questioned her word choice and descriptions. Even though I’m not really into the series I know I will have to read the next two books in the series to find out what happens with the other two siblings.

Rob has always been compared to his grandfather, the late king. Most would think that’s a good thing but to him it’s an insult. What happens when he finally meets his match that makes him question all he’s been preparing himself for. He’s not the kind of guy who gets the girl and keeps her, or is he?

Aly is one of those check mark kind of women. She feels like she has to mark accomplishments off at a certain time in her life. Right now, she wants to check mark husband but she’s having no luck. What she is having luck with though is having awesome naked time with the rebel prince. When they start talking and realize there is more to the other than a quick fix will they give each other a chance?

The siblings played more of a roll in the first book then they did in this one. I thought that it was odd we never got a glimpse of Jack who is Robs twin, especially where they live together. Another question I had was why weren’t Jack and Jane on the yacht for Kit and Emily’s pre-wedding party? These are just a few things that made me question the book and rate it the way I did.

Jennifer's Review:

An enemy to lovers sure to entertain. I was excited to read this book after loving the first one so much. With that being said, this was a good book, but the first one still gets my vote. This book has romance and heat in it. Add in the royal aspect and you are sure to have a good read.

The plot of this book is quite different from the first in the series. That is a good thing in my book. I love that this book wasn’t the same as the first with different characters. Reading about these two in the first book made me desperate to get my hands on their book. I wanted to see where they would go. I was happy with how this turned out.

Aly is such a strong character. I loved her in the first book because of how she was there for her boss and friend, Emily. I liked watching her change her way of thinking throughout the book. Then you have Prince Robert. He is a little rebel now isn’t he. I suppose that is why they chose this title. There were times I didn’t care for his character too much, but overall, I suppose I liked him well enough.

The heat in this book is much like the first. I loved the dirty Prince Robert. I think what adds an extra element to the heat in this book is the fact that they start off as just friends who sleep together then turn into something more later. I think that change in chemistry made this part of the book for me.

The writing style of this book was good. The pace was steady. I don’t know if it was me or the book, but I was a little disappointed to be honest. I was so enamoured with the first book, that I was sure I would love this one just as much, but it just didn’t hit that same spot for me. It could have been any number of things, but it didn’t ruin the book for me.

Overall, this was a good book. I liked the characters and I loved the fact that we got to see other characters we met in book one as well. This is a series I see myself following through to the end. I am invested in this family and want to see where they are going.

Read for FREE on #KindleUnlimited: https://amzn.to/2ujVx3J

BLURB:

One wouldn’t expect a sexy-as-sin rocker like Eli Renard to spend time with a woman just as a friend, but that’s exactly what Emersyn Wallace is to him. Just a friend. Even though she’s matured into a beauty, Eli still doesn’t remotely see his childhood pal as a sex-object. When tragedy brings her back into his world, Eli moves mountains to help Emersyn get back onto her feet by finding her a job as a backup singer for Jacob’s Ladder. At first, Eli is thrilled that Emerysn is along on tour, and he sets out to do his best to help her forget her sorrow through a range of crazy friend dates. But after spending so much time with her in such close quarters, Eli finds his feelings beginning to shift. He no longer sees Emersyn as the once awkward young girl he played some of his first songs with. Soon it’s not only his body that reacts to her, but it’s also his heart. He’s about to learn what a dangerous game it is to dry a widow’s tears.

After losing her husband and singing partner in a tragic accident, Emersyn Wallace spent the last eight months drowning in a sea of grief. With the bills piling up and her family and friends concerned about her emotional welfare, she reluctantly agrees to join the Jacob’s Ladder’s tour. While recapturing her lost love of singing and performing, she finds both comfort and healing in Eli’s gregarious personality and outrageous sense of humor. But as the anniversary of her husband’s death approaches, she finds herself in turmoil over her new amorous feelings for Eli.

Can Eli and Emersyn find the perfect melody to transition from friends to lovers, or will their relationship end out of tune?

OUR REVIEW:

“Sometimes forever is standing right next to you, 5 stars”

Eli’s story was straight up painful in the best possible way. Depending on what kind of reader you are you may cry but for sure your heart will hurt several times thought the story. You’ll want to bash some heads but won’t be able to. Ashley wove a story that will make you want to shout GET IT TOGETHER MAN! But in the end, it will be worth it.

Emmersyn just lost her husband and the only one who’s brought her slightly back to the land of living is her best friend Eli. She has to decide if she wants to accept she’s a widow at thirty or if she’s going to join her husband in the afterlife because that’s the route she’s on. But Eli? He won’t lose her, that’s the thing about best friends, they are always there to catch you when you fall.

Eli and Emmersyn have been best friends since the age of ten. She’s always been like his second sister and watching her grieve her loss is painful for him. But what happens when the grieving ends? What happens when his view of his best friend changes and he starts to see her more as a woman and less like a sister?

These two have an uphill battle ahead of them and they don’t even realize it. Everything about the relationship between them is obvious to everyone but them and its awesome. I love how Eli is all about putting a smile on her face and making her happy. I loved how Emmersyn tackled her steps of grieving because she knew she deserved to be happy. These two will definitely give you a new view on falling in love.

REVIEW - The Courage of a Cowboy - Kristin Vayden

TITLE - The Courage of a Cowboy

AUTHOR - Kristin Vayden

Releases April 17th

Blurb:

Nothing like a wedding to get a girl dreaming of happily-ever-after . . .

Kessed Ling’s best friend’s big day is finally here. It’s especially exciting because it’s Kessed’s chance to show her childhood crush she’s not just a young bridesmaid, she’s a full-grown woman—with red hot desires. But when her long-awaited prey barely blinks an eye at her, Kessed retreats right back into her deeply guarded heart. Doesn’t matter that chivalrous Jasper Matthews steps in and offers a shoulder to lean on. Kessed is no longer in the market for a man, despite how unsettled the strong, silent groomsman makes her feel . . .

As a veterinarian, Jasper better understands a skittish filly than he does willful Kessed Ling. But when fate finds him playing ranch hand alongside the raven-haired beauty, Jasper realizes she’s a woman running scared—and he’s just the man to tame her. So with soothing words and bold kisses, Jasper sets out to show Kessed how good it can be between a man and a woman.  Especially when the man is falling hard and fast in love . . .

Johnaka's Review:

“Change of heart, 5 stars”

Kessed has been in love with the same man for as long as she can remember. Only problem is he’s as dense as a box of rocks and doesn’t realize she’s in love with him. When Kess meets Jasper, she’s attracted to him but has no plans of making a move. I mean her hearts always pointed to Sterling so what’s the point of even trying with someone else?

Jasper instantly likes Kessed and wants her but knows she’s not available. But when forced to spend some time working side by side with her he realizes there’s more to her than what even he realized and that he may be able to make a play for her after all. When he finally gets the girl will he be able to keep her?

I was cheering for these two from the start. Jasper takes Kess the way she is and wouldn’t change a thing about her. He lifts her up and makes her heart happy. Kess soon discovers there’s more to love than struggle and finds herself wanting to be with Jasper as much as she can. Has her heart changed course?

Vayden’s writing was flawless. I loved all the characters from the main to the secondary. The farming life style was pretty spot on and I loved the little touches Vayden added throughout the story. I cannot wait to see what she does with the next book in the series.
