Johnaka's Review “New series, 5 stars” I was so excited to start this series and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I can’t wait to see what else Prince has up her sleeve for this little coastal town. Trent (from the Hope Valley series) is doing his best friend a solid and looking for his girl's long-lost twin sister. When he finds her, there is no denying that she is the woman he’s been looking for. Only she’s not alone. He meant to keep his distance, but something about the single mom pulled him in. Before he knows it, lines are being crossed. Is it too late to tell her who he really is? Cheyenne left her old life behind and never looked back. She’s made friends with those who know those coming and going from their town. It’s the best way to not only protect herself but her daughter. When the handsome man shows up, he throws the women around her into a tailspin. He’s so gorgeous she can barely talk around him. It was only as an adult that she quickly realized the cost of living in Houston made up for not being able to breathe when she stepped outside. That’s why God created central air, after all.

Everyone has dreams when they are young.
And mine came to an abrupt halt.

“Age gap, 4 stars”

I’m not even sure what to say about Badge and Hope. I loved the age gap. I loved the twists I didn’t see coming. But at the same time, I almost feel like this book finished in the blink of an eye.

Badge keeps everyone at arm's length, even his brothers. They don’t know his past or why he doesn’t like kids (he totally does, by the way). But when Hope moves into the room next to his with her baby, he can’t help but give her a hand. The sparks fly between the two and no matter how much he wants her; he doesn’t want to jeopardize the relationship he has with her father. He’s too old for the Hope. If only he could convince her of that.

Hope has had a hard life in her short eighteen years. When she finds her father, things start to fall into place. She shouldn’t want Badge, she should give her baby all of her attention. But Badge makes her want things she didn’t think she could have.

When a threat arises, will they fall into each other or away? Only one way to find out.

“Can I talk to you for a second, Hope?” I ask her between tight teeth. There is no fucking way another man is taking my woman out on a date.

“Sure,” she chirps and begins to walk in front of me.

My eyes eat her up, watching her plump ass shake under that dress. Jesus, is she wearing anything under it? Her heels click against the hardwood floors and she opens her bedroom door to invite me in.

Bullseye gives me a curious glance but doesn’t think much of it when I keep the door open.

“Can this be quick?” Hope asks, staring at her phone. “Benji will be here any minute.”

I rub a hand over my mouth and take a deep breath. “What the hell are you doing? You can’t go out with… Benji.” I nearly spit his name as I say it. I don’t like the guy. I used to, but not anymore.

“Why not? He’s around my age. He is kind. He is interested in Faith—”

“—He asked about her?” I grind my teeth together at his audacity. “She is m—” I almost say ‘she’s my little girl’, but I catch myself. I’m so messed up in the head. I don’t know when I started thinking that. I’ve barely spent any time with her. “Why are you doing this to me?” I whisper, realizing how selfish I sound.

“Doing this to you? I’m not doing anything to you, Forrest. I told you I wasn’t going to wait around. You said you didn’t want me. You pushed me away.”

“He isn’t allowed to have you,” I growl, taking a step forward, readying myself to rip that dress off her and show her who she really belongs to.

Hope shoves me in the chest and points her finger at me. “You arrogant bastard. You don’t want me but no one else can have me? Fuck you, Forrest. You had your chance and guess what?”

“Hope! Benji is here!” Bullseye calls out from the kitchen.

Hope lowers her voice and shoves me again. “And you aren’t going to have another one. You’re going to watch me walk out of here looking fucking amazing and you’re going to wish you weren’t being a coward.” She thrusts her shoulders back and clutches her black billfold against her chest.

Hope goes to walk around and I wrap my hand around her to stop her, tugging her against me. I don’t give her time to think. I clutch the back of her neck with my hand and yank her to me, pressing my lips against hers.

My soul is righted as soon as our lips meet. All the pain disappears; all the burdens I’ve made myself carry melt away. I want to admit everything I am to her. No other man can have these lips of hers. No other man can make her gasp and clutch onto them like I can.

Maybe I am an arrogant man. I never considered myself one.

But I am when it comes to her.

No one else can have my slice of heaven, not when I’m finally accepting her light.

She rips her lips from mine and before I can blink, her palm meets my cheek. “How fucking dare you,” she hisses. “You kiss me before I meet with another man, why?”

I wrap my hand around her throat and shove her against the wall, pressing my body against hers. My cock is pressed against her thigh and her swollen lips part, her lipstick smeared and all fucked up from our kiss.

Good.

“So when you’re with him, all you can think about, all you can taste, is me.”

“You are out of your damn mind if you think I’m going to be thinking about you at all.”

“Hope!” Bullseye calls out again, and I take a step back.

“Yeah, better get away from me,” she sneers. “Or you’ll have to deal with Daddy.”

My heart plummets. I screwed up.

“You better hope you got everything you wanted out of that kiss because that’s the last time you ever touch me.” She cleans the outline of her lips with her thumb, fixing the evidence of our kiss. “God, you’re unbelievable,” she scoffs.

“Anti-relationship, 3 stars”

 Lindsay and Cam are set up by a mutual friend to attend a gala together. Both of them are anti-relationship, so it works perfectly. They had a fun night full of spice and witty banter. But they both know the score. Only for some reason, they are drawn to each other. Can these two anti-relationship people manage to fall for one another?

Lindsay was the most anti-relationship female that I’ve read in a long time. Which isn’t a bad thing. But her character confused me a little, especially in the beginning. And personally, I just couldn’t connect with her. Especially where she writes romance, but doesn’t do relationships.

Cam was anti-relationship, but once he met Lindsay, he wanted to try. Poor dude had to jump through so many hoops to prove to her he was serious. Then you have her throwing jabs reminding him of his past and after a while, it was just old.

I think the book just wasn’t for me. Even though it wasn’t my favorite read, I still read it from start to finish. I can step back and see how this could be a book others would enjoy, it’s just not my cup of tea. Don’t count this one out just because it wasn’t for me.

Southern Sunrise is book 8 in the Southern Series and I think I just read the best one yet! I don’t remember the last time I picked a book up and read it front to back so quickly and so invested in the story. Southern Sunrise holds my favourite trope and Madison delivered in amazing form.

Reed was living in the shadow of his family; he wasn’t like them he wanted more out of his life and to achieve his greatest he had to leave. But before that could happen, he had to take his shot with the 1 girl he was crushing on it was now or never. Hazel knew she was in trouble the moment she got back into town, especially when she came face to face with Reed, the memories of all those years ago flashed in her memory but she had to protect her family because Reed was her weakness.

I personally loved this story!!!! I couldn’t put it down and adulting went out the window. I cannot wait to get my hands on Harlow’s story in The Southern Wedding Series, bring it on!

“Second chance, 5 stars”

Reed and Hazel belonged together. There was no denying that from the get go. If you’ve been following the series, you know what I’m talking about. Here in Southern Sunshine though, you see them go their separate ways before they can get their HEA and I loved it. I don’t know what it is about this series but as soon as I finish one book, I want the next.

Reed hates his hometown. He doesn’t like the pressure of being compared to his father or brother. So when he left, he decided he wasn’t going to go back. Until he did. One injury and a convincing phone call from his father and he’s back. What he didn’t expect was to see Hazel. The girl, now woman who made his final months there bearable. Reed wanted her then, and he wants her now, but can get convince her to give him a shot?

Hazel was basically in love with Reed when they were kids. But she knew that they both needed to go their separate ways and spread their wings. When she’s called home because of a tragedy, she didn’t expect to see him. He lights her blood on fire. Yeah, she wants him, but it’s not just her heart on the line. She has a daughter and only time will tell on how Reed will handle it.

When he moves back to town after being gone for five years, he tries his best to stay away.

But there she is at his CrossFit gym. Then having a baby on the side of the road. Oh, and breaking him a little more with each step she takes away.

Eventually, they find their way back to each other. The only problem is, by the time that Mavis makes her way back into his heart, it breaks. And not in a rhetorical way. In the ‘he only has days to live’ kind of way.

“Be still my heart, 5 stars” I won’t lie, I kind of hated Vale while I was reading this one because she had me so up in my feelings. Like holy guacamole. Mavis and Murphy were perfect together. The push and pull was spot on and I was here for it. Add in the twist that Vale tossed in and now I have a book hangover. If only she had chosen another victim for her twist. If you know, you know. Now I’m going to go rock in a corner until the next book comes out. Why? Because I can. One thing is for sure, if you want a killer book about a second chance with some craziness, look no further.
