About DOWNFALL:

Solomon Sanders doesn’t have time to fall in love. Until a stunning, skittish, single mother forces him to pause and recognize just how empty and hollow his busy life has become.

From the start, it’s been ingrained in Solo’s DNA to fight.

Fight for what he believes is right.

Fight for the people he loves.

Fight for the traces of good in a place which tends to be filled with a variety of bad.

Fight for survival, so at some point, his life will quiet down and find a normal pace.

He wasn’t ready for the impact his secretive, shy, obviously out of place new neighbor was going to have on him. And never in a million years was he prepared to fall head over heels for her and her young daughter.

Now, he’s facing the most important, and the hardest fight he’s ever fought… the battle to win Orley’s damaged heart.

Orley Vincent’s heart is full of fear, leaving no space for love. Until a big, brash, brawler of a man forces his way in and makes her realize facing her fears is the only way she can ever be free.

From the start, Orley was groomed to believe she wasn’t good enough.

She wasn’t the perfect daughter. Or student. Or girlfriend.

But, she has always been the best mother she could be to her daughter, Noble.

Keeping Noble safe has always been the one thing she was determined to do, which ironically, is how she ended up on the wrong side of the tracks, living next door to an unlikely hero. Orley’s a woman on the run. She had no idea her frantic sprint was going to land her in the tattooed arms of a man ready to teach her how to fight for herself… and for love.

Excerpt:

“What did I tell you about lurking around my place, Skinner? I don’t fucking like it.” The guy’s voice was a low growl. Intimidating without even trying. “I don’t fucking like you.”

Out of habit, I reached back and covered Noble’s ears with my hands. She wasn’t new to foul language, but I didn’t need her repeating this stranger’s garbage words, which she absolutely would at the most inopportune moment.

My eyes widened as he shook the lurker hard enough to snap his head back and forth comically. The smaller man whimpered and clutched at the hands locked on the front of his dirty coat.

“Let me go, Solo. I was just having some fun. She’s a prissy bitch. You’ve seen her walking around here like her shit don’t stink.” The pleading was wasted. The larger man was clearly unmoved.

The new arrival’s massive arms tensed and flexed as he practically threw the other man on the ground. I noticed he was dressed in nothing more than a dark t-shirt even though it was chilly outside. The short sleeves showed off more than his impressive build. In the faded street lights, I could hardly make out the designs that were inked over almost every visible inch of skin. That wasn’t an uncommon look in this neighborhood. Gang tattoos, prison tattoos, and general outsiders who called these streets home tended to rock some serious ink, but this guy’s looked more deliberate and artistic than a simple statement piece.

As soon as my attacker was back on the ground, the bigger guy stepped forward. I reflexively cringed as he lowered his big, booted foot down on the other man’s unprotected private parts. A wail of agony shrieked through the air, and I realized belatedly I should be hauling ass for my apartment, not standing around waiting to see how this brutal display of street justice played out.

I clutched Noble’s hand in mine and briskly jogged the last few yards to my apartment building. I lifted Noble over the sleeping homeless man and hustled up the five flights of stairs to our floor. The elevator had been broken since before we’d moved in, not that I would dare let either of us get trapped in a small place with anyone from this complex.

I was a panting, quaking mess when I finally slammed the door. I dropped to my knees and pulled my daughter into my arms, covering her tear-streaked face in kisses and whispering soothing words over and over again.

There was no way this could be our new normal.

But it was.

Noble deserved so much better than this.

I sighed, pushing her hair off her precious face. “You know what, sweets?” She blinked big, watery blue eyes at me and shook her head. “I think we both need cake.”

She nodded and cuddled close to me.

It wouldn’t occur to me until much later that I hadn’t bothered to shout a thank you or shown any appreciation at all to my savior. I had no clue if he was any better than the scumbag who had grabbed me, but he had at least kept my daughter safe, so I owed him, even if he was one of countless things in this forever dark place that scared the life out of me.

People didn’t help other people in this neighborhood… but he had stopped and helped me, whether his intentions were altruistic or not.

And I owed him… well… at the very least, more than a piece of cake.

 OUR REVIEW:

Crownover is a new to me author and I could not put this book down, from the moment I started reading Solo, Orley and Noble captured me and held me hostage until the last page was turned.

Orley is a single mum who is scared and running from something that she is keeping very quiet on; she has moved into a very run-down area that is not 100% safe. Taking a risk, she is left in a bad position and that is where Solo comes into play, saving her not only once but several times they start a relationship that continues to grow. When Orley’s past comes back to take the one thing she will do anything to protect Solo teams up with some friends to save the woman he has fallen in love with.

I highly recommend this book, the chemistry between Orley and Solo is set to high and add in his amazing knight in shining armour status and affection for Noble I was done for.

I look forward to reading more of Crownover’s work.

Excerpt:

I turn to look at her. She’s framed in the doorway with the light bright behind her and her face in shadow, her hair a golden corona around her head. A band of tightness settles around my chest.

I take a step toward her. She takes a step back. I don’t know what she sees on my face, but her eyes are huge and her pulse is throbbing in the side of her neck.

When I take another step and she retreats again, I stop. “Are you afraid of me?”

She laughs shakily. “No.”

“Then why are you backing up?”

“I was hoping I’d be at the wall by now. I need it to hold me up. I’m so excited I think I might faint.”

The band around my chest grows tighter.

“Stay where you are,” I say, holding her gaze. The eye contact feels like a touch, like an electrical current running on a loop between us. It’s probably close to ninety degrees, but the skin on my arms raises in gooseflesh. As I take another step toward her, she flexes her hands open and draws a breath.

She says with quiet wonder, “I can feel my heartbeat in my fingertips.”

“I know. Me too.”

I advance another step. She’s an arm’s length away. I see it when she begins to tremble.

“This must be what a stroke feels like,” she whispers as I reach out and touch her face.

“Probably not this good.” I slide my hand into her hair, and she bites her lip.

When I move closer, she raises her hands and flattens them on my chest. I know she can feel how hard my heart is pounding. Her breathing is as erratic as mine.

“Oh God,” she says faintly. “I really hope this kiss you’re about to give me is as amazing as the pre-kiss. I think my panties just went up in flames.”

“Not a good idea to talk to me about your panties right now, sweetheart,” I murmur, brushing my lips over her jaw. “I’m barely in control as it is.”

I nuzzle my nose into the soft, sweet spot under her earlobe and drag in a breath scented of her skin. She shudders. I cradle her head in my hands as her fingers dig into my chest. I open my mouth over the pulse in her throat and she moans, low and soft, arching into me.

That little moan sets my entire body on fire.

With one hand cupped around the back of her head and the other around her jaw, I tilt her head back and fit my mouth to hers.

Her lips part. Our tongues touching is an electrical shock. She makes a soft, feminine noise in the back of her throat that makes me feel savage, like an animal.

We stand in the gloom and kiss, deep and slow, until the urge to push her against the wall, lift her skirt, and thrust deep inside her is a hot, heady pulse in my veins. She slides her arms up around my shoulders so her breasts press against my chest. I feel her nipples, two hard points in a lush expanse of skin, and groan into her mouth.

My dick is so hard it’s throbbing.

“I want you to kiss me everywhere,” she whispers, breaking away from my mouth but staying in my arms. She’s panting. Her eyes look glazed. “I want you to take off my clothes and kiss me everywhere like that. Promise me you will.”

I huff out a breath that’s part laugh and part groan. “So it measured up to the pre-kiss, huh?”

Our Review:

“Is their love dangerous, 3 stars”

Okay, not to beat a dead horse (sorry for the horrible saying) but much like everyone else I had no idea Dangerous Beauty was part one in a trilogy. I’ve read Geissinger for what feels like ever and have never once ran into a cliffy from her until now, and I loathe cliff hangers. The fact that I have to have another cliffy before I can read the conclusion of Nasir and Eva’s story. Also, the story was a little too insta-love for me. With that said let me get to the good stuff.

Naz took a different kind of job than his last one. He’s done with protecting celebrities and has moved on. This job should be easy, but that’s what he gets for assuming. He never expected to meet his mark but once he does, he finds it hard to stay away from Eva. The question is what will happen when he finds out everything, he thought he knew about her was a lie?

Eva escaped and that’s all that matters. She will do whatever it takes to never go back. When she meets Naz she thinks he’s one thing but quickly learns he’s something else. Will she let him in and help her? Or will she keep everyone at arm’s length for their safety?

I honestly did like Naz and Eva together and cannot wait to see where Geissinger takes the story. If romantic suspense stories with a cliff hanger are your jam then look no further.

Let your homeless best friend stay with you, he said. Being roommates will be fun, he said. It's only temporary, he said.

I can't take anymore.
So I propose a roommate agreement. One that will bring peace and order back to my life, complete with rules that might just stop my newfound crush on my best friend in its tracks.

Shelby shut the door with a click and peered over at me. “What are you writing? If it’s permission to use the feather duster as a sex toy, the answer is no. Unless you buy your own, but if you haven’t figured out where the laundry room is yet, I doubt you’ll find where to buy one.”

She was as funny as a car crash, this one.

“Hilarious,” I drawled. “No, I’m making amendments as I go. I added a new rule.”

“You added a new rule?” She raised one dark eyebrow and walked over, hovering over me. “All right, what is it?”

“Decent clothes must be worn. Do you know how many times I wake up early on a morning to open the gym and find you basically in your underwear in the kitchen?”

“Basically in my underwear? Who are you seeing in the kitchen? I wear shorts and a tank top at the very least.”

“Yes, but the shorts barely cover your ass, and you’re sure as hell not wearing a bra.”

She paused, eyes glittering as she said, “And why are you looking at my ass and my boobs?”

That was an excellent question.

“Because there’s nowhere else to look!” I rushed out before my stupid cock could get any ideas. “Look, waking up in the morning can be challenging for a guy.”

She stared at me.

“I don’t need to get up for a coffee with… you know.” I motioned to my groin. “And see you half-clothed.”

She flicked her hair over her shoulder and walked to the kitchen, turning her back to me. “Why does it matter? I’m your best friend. I hardly think your little friend is remotely interested in whether or not I’m wearing a bra.”

Yeah, well, he is.

“Fine. If I have to wake up and see your perky nipples prancing around the kitchen, I’m going to stroll around in my underwear so you can get a good view of my morning glory.”

She spun, lifting up a finger. Her cheeks were flushed, and she had to swallow before she could speak. “My nipples do not prance. They are not horses.”

I grinned.

“Also, I have no desire to have anything to do with your morning erection, much less get a good view of it, thank you very much.”

“Have I told you that you’re cute when you blush?”

“Have I told you that you’d be a cute dead guy?”

I laughed, leaning back on the sofa. “C’mon, Shelbs. We need to respect each other’s privacy. You don’t want to see my cock hard over your breakfast, and I don’t want to see your nipples standing to attention when I make a coffee.”

She sighed. “Why did I ever let you move in again?”

“Because I was going to be homeless and you’re the best friend ever?”

“Mm.”

OUR REVIEWS:

Johnaka's Review:

“Falling for your best friend, 5 stars”

Shelby and Jay have been best friends for two decades and never once thought about their relationship changing. Until they moved in together. Now they see each other differently and the attraction is combustible. The question is will they risk twenty years of friendship for a chance at love?

I enjoyed Shelby and Jay. I loved that she’s an introvert much like myself. The differences between the two were obvious but they made each other better. They had basically been in a relationship for years but never realized it. The Roommate Agreement had all of Hart’s quirkiness. One thing is for sure, you wont regret one-clicking The Roommate Agreement.

Jennifer's Review:

Sweet and funny! The Roommate Agreement is everything you would expect from Emma Hart. It is a romance novel with a relatable heroine, a hot alpha, tons of sass, and of course humor. If you wanna laugh, get in on this one

This book has a great plot. I am not usually a huge fan of friends to lovers books, but Emma changed my mind with this one. I loved how the plot flowed smoothly. Everything made sense to me.

Shelby is a great character. She is awkward and nerdy. She is strong yet insecure. Honestly she is one of the most realistic characters I have read about in a long while. Jay is a great character as well. He is such a man. With that being said, I liked how Emma portrays him.

The heat in this book is great. It explores what happens when you see someone you thought you knew in a different light. The feelings and attraction that comes along with that. I liked the heat in this book.

I really enjoyed the writing style. The pace of the book is steady. The story is told from a dual point of view. I liked the minor characters. The situations described were perfect and added to the story.

Overall, I loved this book. Give me a sarcastic woman any day. I loved how the characters are written and how the story is told. I would recommend this book to others.

Excerpt:

The molten hunger in his eyes sent a torrent of heat rushing through her body even as her old fears bubbled to the surface again. “Aidan…” she murmured, dropping her gaze to his chest.

She’d done it. Given her unspoken consent. Now her heart was trying to pound its way out of her chest.

His hand came up to stroke her hair away from her face. She leaned into his touch, craving more. Craving this wonderful, incredible man that for some reason wanted her in spite of all her imperfections.

Her heart beat an erratic rhythm against her ribs. She’d never experienced anything like this before. Not with this level of intensity. This was…something she’d only read about before. Was it because of everything they’d gone through together? Because she’d relied on him for survival?

His fingers stroked against her scalp in a drugging caress that had her eyelids drooping. “What are you so afraid of?”

She looked up at him again. God, he was beautiful. And strong. And brave.

He was also going to rip her heart out when he left.

It wasn’t easy to voice her insecurities aloud, but she felt comfortable with him. Close to him in a way she’d never felt with another man. “Of making another mistake. Of getting my heart broken again,” she whispered.

He cupped the side of her face to run his thumb over her cheekbone. “I’ll not hurt you, lass.”

Her insides squeezed at the tenderness in his voice, the yearning in his eyes. No, he wouldn’t hurt her intentionally. “But you’re leaving soon. In another few weeks.” That was going to leave a scar, no matter how gently the cut was made.

“Aye,” he agreed, his gaze locked with hers. “But I’m here now.”

His words reverberated in the deepest recesses of her heart. He was right here in front of her, and he wanted her.

Any other arguments she had stored up vanished in the space of a single heartbeat. Before she could think herself out of it, she gave free rein to the need pulsing inside her, took his face in her hands and pulled him down to her waiting lips.

Our Review:

Rocky Ground is book four in the series, but was easily enjoyed as a standalone. I haven’t read any of the other books in the Crimson Point series, and I was easily able to follow the plot and enjoy the characters. I enjoyed reading this book for many reasons.

Our story follows Aiden and Tiana as they navigate a few tricky situations. Not just how they fall in love, but some mystery and intrigue and more. This book kept you guessing and interested all the way through! Through it all you are rooting for the two to overcome and have a happy ending!

I liked the main characters. Tiana is a single mother who has been dealt some crappy situations in her past. A less than ideal childhood (which seems trite as I write it, but was wonderfully explained by the author!), a deadbeat dad for her daughter, and now an even worse situation now for both of them. But through it all she stands strong and is still trusting and creates a village of helpers for her little family. She’s off relationships though, so Aiden doesn’t even blip her radar at first. Aiden has been busy in his life in the US, but has noticed the amazing Tiana. He’s struggling with some sticky situations of his own, but can’t help but notice her as a woman. He’s strong and gentle and alpha in the best way possible (and a Scot-the accent and wording-whew!). I loved how they interact, and how they have to work together, and generally act like adults.

I liked the slow build of friendship, chemistry and love between these two! It was very realistic to me, how they had to build trust, talk, work things out, and despite the feelings they had for baser needs, work on more than just getting naked. That made it so when they give the relationship a real try, they make it work, despite all the struggles their journey faces.

I was sucked in quickly to this book, which I wasn’t expecting! I was a bit apprehensive that as a book four, I might be missing the backstory to fully understand the characters and plot. But I was worried for no reason! I loved the surprise situations that arose, and how the author had the characters had to deal with them. I finished the book so quickly, and was sad when it ended as I wanted more!

I can’t wait to go back and read more by this author. And I hope that Noah gets a happy ending! The author does a great job with the characters, the plot, the setting, and the situations. I fell in love with all the characters, and the town of Crimson Point-makes me want to go back to the coast for another vacation...in hopes I run into some of these fascinating people!

OUR REVIEWS:

Louise's Review:

The Panty Melter is the 4th book in the Hunter Brothers series, I haven’t previously read books 1-3 but I don’t feel like I missed any vital part of this story as it appears, they are all standalones; I will go back and read them though as I like the sound of all these brothers.

Deacon and Violet are both trying to find their feet; both divorced and parents. Getting back into the dating game isn’t easy especially when your stood up. Having a quick roll around with a masked stranger to find out he is everything that Violet does not want or need in her life. When their paths continue to cross, they start to catch feelings; when they finally find their ground both of their worlds are rocked leaving them wondering if there is any future for them.

This is a new to me author and I personally enjoyed reading their story; it was fast paced and refreshing to read a story about a couple in their 40’s.

I look forward to reading more from Valente.

Erin's Review:

I was excited to read this book! I had the pleasure of reading a book Lili Valente co-wrote with Pippa Grant and loved it, so I couldn’t wait to read something by just Ms. Valente. She did not disappoint. She brought a later in life enemies to lovers book to a laugh out loud happily ever after.

This starts out as a enemies to lovers type of book, but with so many subtle plot twists that keep you reading and working hard to keep all the details straight! I could tell this was part of a series, and wish I had read from the beginning first, as I did have a bit of trouble keeping all the characters straight, and I feel perhaps reading them in order would have helped with that.

Violet is a lovely divorced mother who is ready to move on and get some sexy on. She seems like a great mother to her daughters, and does her best to co-parent. She has a strong love of animals and is a vegetarian. She’s strong in her beliefs and attitude, and has an amazing set of friends to see her through her divorce and her life after. Deacon is a cocky, self sure, no filter, alpha kind of guy. And unfortunately he keeps running into Violet and their verbal sparring and ability to annoy each other keeps them spinning in circles. Despite Deacon’s ability to rub Violet the wrong way, he is a good man and widowed father. And when they take the time to stop annoying each other, they find each other a quite intriguing.

These two definitely have chemistry, which starts out as annoyance and moves to more. But as their interactions continue and they see each other in new light, and Violet makes her move. It starts out a bit forced, but honestly, that works for these characters and their situations. And then things heat up quite nicely with their heated words and actions. Gives me hope for my age group!

While I loved the overall story, there were a few slow spots to the story, or spots where I couldn’t keep everything straight. Again, possible due to not reading the first three books in the series first. But overall I loved the storyline and interesting plot twists. Ms. Valente definitely writes some very comedic dialogue and situations, but can also make the serious situations relatable and understandable.

I think I’d like to go back and read the beginning of the series. My tastes in books keeps evolving and I’ve read the gamut from historical to young adult to college and this one of my first books with characters that had older children and were older than me. It was well written and I enjoyed it

Our Reviews:

Louise's Review:

When we Fall is book 1 in the Rocky Falls series, focusing on Erin and Mason and navigating the high school world with intense bullying showing the effects it has on all students.

Erin has been bullied her entire school life, each year the taunts get harsher and as the years have gone on, they have begun to be physical; she isn’t the only one but when it comes to surviving her high school years she puts her head down and tries to be invisible. When Mason Knight swaggers into the classroom he gives her no option to stay invisible; while Erin is enjoying her time with Mason a bullseye is drawn bigger on her back leaving her vulnerable. In one moment, everything changes leaving everyone with not just physical scars but mental ones too.

Rose is a new to me author and I did enjoy this story but felt very confronted with the reality that Erin was living with on a daily basis, if you have bullying triggers, I highly recommend that you consider whether this is the book for you.

I look forward to reading more from Rose in the future.

Jennifer's Review:

Whaaaat? That is what this book made me think a lot. When We Fall is an interesting novel, but did frustrate me at times. Now I feel it is my duty to mention the following. There are triggers in this book for some. This book explores bullying, which can be a sensitive topic. If you do not like to read about these situations, then turn around. Now if you are okay, then continue.

The plot of this book intrigued me. I mean I love high school books and this book is that. I didn’t quite expect the bullying aspect, but hey I don’t mind it. Add in a new boy who happens to be incredibly attraction and popular? Well I thought I just had to give this one a shot. I did like the plot, but I feel like the plot was a little bit too complex for my liking.

Erin is just a sweet girl trying to survive high school. I liked how sweet she is. She was an interesting character with some very enjoyable characteristics. I did feel like she was a bit of a pushover, but seeing her past, I couldn’t really fault the author for that. Then you have Mason. He is strong and popular. He is attractive. He also is a kind boy who looks past all the high school bull. I really liked his character.

The heat between these two is what you would expect in a teen novel. Not too hot, but enough to make you think of the butterflies you had as a teen. I really liked the relationship between these two. It was very enjoyable to read.

The writing style of this book is good. The pace of the story is steady. The story is told from one point of view. Honestly, this story was a bit much for me. I felt some of the issues were over done and that there was a bit too much going on. With that said, I still enjoyed the book.

In conclusion, this book had me questioning what I read. While I enjoyed the book overall, I did feel it was a bit much for me personally. There are trigger warnings for this book. Just proceed with caution.
