REVIEW:
Maria has done it again.
This time we get something a little different from her and her usual style. We get a paranormal romance. Usually when authors I like go from romance books to paranormal I get a little twitchy. Chrysalis didn’t make me twitchy at all though. For me it was the perfect balance between paranormal and romance. For the record I prefer more paranormal than romantic drama when it comes to this type of story.
Emery thought she was a typical loner high school girl. No family, no friends, just a girl going through the motions. After a potentially life changing experience her life does change. Next thing she knows she finds out she has magical powers and family. Questions arise though, why did she come into her powers so late in the game? Is she good or bad? Most importantly what side will she choose?
Elijah has been looking over Emery for years. That's what big brothers do. He is happy and saddened by the fact Emery came into her powers. Happy because he can finally be the brother he always wanted to be and saddened because he didn’t want this life for her.
Will he be able to keep her safe?
Will his loyalty get called into question?
Everyone's a suspect in the game of war.
Kade avoided Emery for years until she walked through his door. His worst fear came true, Emery was powerful. For better or for worst they are tied together, only question is will they fall into line with fate or will they tell fate to screw off.
I loved some of the secondary characters and of course couldn't stand some. I love how Tristan and Emery formed a bond. He helped her understand the rules of the game and was just there when she needed him.
The story had some fun twists that I didn’t see coming and enjoyed. I cant wait to see where Maria takes this series.
Here are some quotes that I liked;
“We can’t worry about the future, we can only take every day as it comes. We have each other. If I die tomorrow, I’ll feel like I was able to live a thousand lifetimes, because I got to love you… knowing you loved me, too.”
“there was nowhere else I’d rather be, and for the first time in my life, I knew down to my bones, that I belonged.”
“I breathe in his scent and know that whatever happens in my tomorrow, having him in my today has made everything we face worth it.”

This book was a riveting read, with unexpected twists and turns throughout. The storyline pulls you in to a world like no other whilst keeping it linked with our own, leaving endless possibilities of things to come. ~ Amo & Sarahs Book Corner
This book moves at a pace and I really didn't want to put it down. Another thing that surprised me was that I didn't really notice there was no sex until it was brought up in the storyline.
This is my first read from this author and I'm very impressed, I will be adding book 2 onto my tbr as its a slight cliffy ending. ~ Vampy & Racey
Wow completely loved it!!...Had not picked up a paranormal book in a while, but I enjoyed this one very much. ~ Books and Coffee cups
