Review - Among the Echoes - Aly Martinez

Oh, my, god!! This book was amazing! I have been reading back to back ARC's for the last couple of weeks, and had no idea what to expect with this next book. I just know, I was hoping for something a little different to break the chain, and after reading only 2 pages, I had absolutely no way of stopping. Right from the very start, I felt captivated by so many feelings and emotions. I was horrified and disgusted, then sad and emotional. Constantly reading on the edge of my seat, wondering what will be next. Yet, after a while I started to get the feel good feelings come through. I was giggling and sighing. Eventually all hot and bothered, but still alternating with feeling sad and nervous of what was next. So all round a crazy ride of emotions.
Not one single page went by, where I was thinking about putting the book down for a bit. I couldn't, literally couldn't. I may have missed something vitally important. Who needs to eat, right? So I pretty much devoured this book throughout today, and am still sat here buzzing over how good it was.
The thing is, when reviewing books. I generally start with a summary of the book and how I perceive certain events and the characters. It's not going to happen with this book. There's no way I could say anything about what happens, no matter how small the detail. I don't want to even mention any background on the characters. This book is truly incredible, and going in to it blind, without reading anything on the story, is the best way to go. I had no clue of anything except the blurb and by the time I started reading this, I had forgotten the blurb. So I went in with no knowledge and was totally blown away.
The writing alone is beautiful yet powerful and brutal. The characters were so heartfelt and real. Like I said before, I was one minute laughing along with them, then welling up for them. I was drawn in by how perfectly believable they were. It's one of those stories where you would hate for any of the events to be real. Yet knowing that somewhere out there, this could be a reality for someone. Which makes you even more emotional. It's hard to say, it's just fiction, it's not real. This book had me all kinds of crazy sad and blubbery.
I'm so glad I got to read this book. It was perfect and will stick in my head long after I finished.
Oh and the best part, when I realised there would be another book in the series, a different characters story. That made this even more perfect. I can't wait to read that book!
1000% recommended and I would give far more than 5 stars if I could!! Flawless.

Review - Breakdown (Crash Into Me #1) - Amanda Lance

Gawd, I have been so lucky with amazing ARC's this week. Breakdown has just pushed the awesomeness even further up on the scale.
This book starts right in a dark place, from the opening lines I was already sat with my mouth open. A huge amount of emotional bubbling up for Charlotte 'Lottie'. Yet along comes the gorgeous and charismatic William 'Billy' and with him everything seems to brighten up. I won't give the full on details of the circumstances of their meeting each other, as I don't want to spoil the feel of it. It is emotional, sad, and quite difficult but Billy seems to make everything so much better. He has a huge personality and so sweet with his quick lines and ability to know exactly what is happening. He pretty much saves Lottie in so many ways, and also gives her a whole new obsession. Racing!
I've not read many books that centre around racing and cars, I've seen a fair few films but not books. I found it quite fascinating, of course I didn't understand a single word of the car jargon but I loved it nonetheless.
It would seem the whole racing scene and the crazy modified cars are going to be Lottie's new buzz in life. She fell in love with all the colours and noises and found the adrenaline rush from the race addictive. It had given her a new found sense of excitement in life when she had none before. Except her amazing baking skills, that left me crazy hungry at 3am in the morning.
So Breakdown is the story of how two people can save each other in more ways than one. Lottie and Billy have the most amazing connection. They are so sweet with each other, the sarcastic humour and slow burning chemistry is perfect. They both come from different places yet mould perfectly together. Their troubled pasts have caused both of them pain, yet they seem to help each other out of the pain.
I literally couldn't stop reading this book to the point of staying up till stupid o'clock to finish it. The writing was beautiful and the characters were captivating. Although it started in a really dark place, and the undertones of that darkness pop up now and then, it still ended on a note of perfect swoon worthiness. It's an addictive and heart wrenching read and I couldn't fault anything about it.
If I could give more than 5 stars I absolutely would!!

Review - Wherever You Will Go (Try Again #1) - Stephanie Smith

I was exceedingly lucky to read this quite early on, and then again yesterday, and it was just as good if not better the second time.
Wherever you will go, had the most perfect mix of incredible writing with real characters and crazy emotions all thrown in to an awesome story. Yes, that sounded odd but I felt like I went through so many emotions when reading this book, that anything I say is going to be all indecipherable mumbles. :-/
Brooke and Nate are one of those perfect couples. Gorgeous and crazy in love, untouchable. Until the worst thing ever happens to them. Brooke is left alone to pick up the pieces and try to restart her life, alone.
Saxon is Nate's best friend and works for the business Nate created. He is very good at his job, successful, loaded and focused. He is also gorgeous and a ladies man, yet that may start to change. After losing his best friend, Saxon throws himself into work, yet can't stop hurting thinking about his best friends wife Brooke, and how she is coping.
So begins a friendship, where both of them grieve together and help each other to get past what happened. Brooke wants to step in to Nate's very successful business and try to keep it running. It's all she has left of him and she wants to try and keep it. Yet she needs the help of Saxon, he single handed lay runs the business now and Brooke is convinced he will want to move on.
From here on, we see Brooke learning to live her life without Nate and move on after everything that has happened. She is good with the business, and it gives her something to focus on. Saxon is always there helping Brooke through the learning process, and it seems them having each other is helping them to deal with it all. Through this friendship, they become quite attached to each other. Saxon shows himself to be very loyal and supportive, yet we start to see another side come through. A more protective and alpha side. Which I have to say, is super sexy. :)
Both Saxon and Brooke deal with the ups and downs of all that is happening with the business and work colleagues, plus the changing and developing feelings between them. All this while trying to move on, after the one man in both of their lives that meant everything is no longer around.
I loved how I went from trying to sniff discreetly through parts, to laughing and then getting hot and bothered through others. It was a crazy emotional whirlwind, but in the best possible sense. I loved all the characters, they always stood out as genuine and not fake. Brooke was gorgeous yet didn't brag about it and Saxon was almost predatory but didn't care what people thought of him. Even the other characters were a perfect mix of funny and genuine. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series when we get to follow Harper, the bubbly presence within the office and a friend to Brooke.
I definitely recommend this book, it will have you bawling then laughing then burning up, to start the process all over again afterwards.

About INDISCRETION: Volume One

F*ck and chuck. Pump and dump. Hit it and quit it. One night stand. Didn’t matter how I branded it—that’s all she had wanted it to be. That much was clear when she left me with my pants down and my dick still out. What she hadn’t counted on was fate intervening and our worlds colliding—again.
The day I showed back up in the life of Chloe Griffins, I knew I had to have her again. My body was hungry for another taste. Like an addict, I’d been craving another hit for months, and there she was—flesh and bone, tits and ass.
The fact that she worked for the competition should’ve been reason enough for me to leave her alone. I had a job to do that summer and f*cking Chloe wasn’t part of it. But I was like a man possessed.
I’d do whatever it took to have her again.

“You do not need to bring that up.” Her eyes narrowed and I could tell she was pissed.

“Really?” I raised an eyebrow. “Do you react this way to every man who gives you an orgasm? Or just the ones you choose to hit and run?"

“I, what? I did not...” she stammered.

Good. I had her off-kilter. At least now I knew the feeling was mutual. “Look, it’s fine.” I shrugged and grinned, showing her I wasn’t all that bad. “Why did you take off that night?”

She looked at me, contemplating her answer. “I was embarrassed. I’ve never done anything like that before. I had a little too much to drink and let’s just say I wasn’t thinking clearly.”

I took a step closer, my gaze locking on hers. My hand moved to her face and cupped her jaw. I couldn’t resist. “Oh, I’d say you were clear enough with me about what you wanted.” I grinned and inched closer to her. The heat between us was palpable. I enjoyed making her uncomfortable. Maybe it was payback for her having left me in the dust that night.

Who am I kidding? It was the attraction that still pulsed between us, even months later, in the light of day and stone-cold sober.

Her mouth dropped open. “Please, you were the one who kissed me first!”

“True, but you were the one who straddled me like you were gearing up to ride bronco,” I said with a pretend laisse-faire tone.

Ah, there was that adorable flush in her cheeks again, when it had just started to subside.

“So your career comes before me?” I asked, already knowing the answer. “At least
look me in the eye and answer me, it’s the least you owe me Grey.”
“I don’t want to have to choose Carls,” he said as he caught my eye. “I just don’t
want to miss out on the experience of a lifetime. I get to see amazing things,
capture them on film while I experience the different cultures.”
“Just answer the question Grey – you want your career more than you want me.” I

Early Reviews:

"This book really makes you believe in love forever and happy endings." -Kay

"This book has everything you need in a romance novel: love, heartbreak and even a little suspense." -Vikki Love

MY REVIEW:

Carly and Greyston were childhood sweethearts, met young and madly in love as teens. They did everything together and had many firsts together. A picture of young love that lasts forever. Until it all goes wrong. Grey has the opportunity to take his dream and make it bigger and better, with the perfect job offer of being a photographer abroad. He is madly in love with Carly, but can't see beyond this huge opportunity. He asks Carly to go with him, but Carly is hurt and her heart is breaking at the possibility that the love of her life is going to choose a career over her. She tells him, she won't uproot her life and they part on bad terms.
Ten long years later, Carly is a freelance journalist and has moved on. She has her own home, loves her job and although content, never really got over her first love. Although having had a few relationships, nothing that has lasted. Not when her heart was given to Grey, and he took it with him ten years ago.
That's when all changed, Carly spots Grey and something within her is fired back up. As soon as he spots her, it's obvious that his feelings haven't changed after all this time. Yet, Grey is there with a woman, who is showing off an engagement ring. Carly is polite but aloof, keeping her distance and shielding her heart. Yet Grey is persistent, he remembers exactly what he missed from home, and wants it back.
So begins a game of chase, Grey is determined to win back Carly, and make up for the time they lost. Carly wants Grey more tan anything, yet can't possibly comprehend giving in to an engaged man.
It's obvious the chemistry is still present and probably as strong as it was before he left. Whenever they are together, it's sweet how strong they feel for each other. Grey is adorable and seems willing to fight tooth and nail for Carly. Carly is torn on her morals and feelings. The man she never stopped loving, who is also engaged. So follows a series of events to bring these two back together.
It really is quite a sweet and lovely tale of second chance love. Although the odds seem stacked against them, time and again. Fate would seem to step in and give them a little helping hand from time to time. I loved seeing the journey they took and how they handled all the obstacles to get to their happy ever after and finish line. Although they seemed to have to deal with some pretty horrid things thrown at them, they were both strong characters and came back fighting. A very sweet love story that makes you sigh at the perfect moments, and gasp at the heartbreaking ones.

About the Author:

Keren lives in the UK and is an avid bookworm; she has been since she read things like Black Beauty, What Katy Did
and The Hobbit as a child. Her first real memories of reading are the summers she used to lie on her bed and re-read What Katy Did and What Katy Did Next.
Over the years she has come to realise that she is a bit OCD about books. They have to be in perfect condition without the slightest bit of damage.
She is a book reviewer and has been for the past 18 months or so. The idea for Stolen came to her one day but she never thought she’d actually write it let alone publish it. If it wasn’t for her author friend Kira Saito, the idea would still be stuck in her head not on paper. But constant love and support from Kira is why you are now able to read Stolen. Stolen is her first novel but now that she’s written one, she knows she needs to write more. There will be one sequel, called Freed which will be from Bodhi’s POV. This will be set a couple of years on. Then, the plan is for her to write either NA or Adult Contemporary Romances. She has a big crush on Lady Antebellum’s music at the moment and their songs have inspired a few book ideas.
