MY REVIEW:

Oh my gosh, this book was incredible. I know I'm stupidly late in getting to read this book, but better late than never, and all that.
Plus I had no idea that there is 2 versions of this book. I obviously have read the newer version, but I'd love to read the original ending. 

Short Review Version:

This book was such a pleasant surprise. Well, not really a surprise, I have loved every book I have read of Alessandra Torre, so far.
But, I still felt wowed, by just how good this book actually was.
It's dark, sexy, full of almost scary suspense, and so gripping I actually fell asleep in bed while reading this, as I refused to put it down.
All the detail that went in to the background of this story, was incredible. I was actually sat thinking, wow that's a hella lot of money, maybe I should have a go at this cam lark! ;)
The biggest part I loved was Deanna, or Jessica. She was an incredible lead character. She was unlike any other character I have read. She was unique, odd, dark, incredibly smart, and 1000% entertaining.
If you love your books with an edge, skirting around some incredibly dodgy and risky subjects, and delving in to some other questionable subjects, but being so gripping and full of suspense, then this is without a doubt, a book you need to grab now!!


Longer Review Version:

No spoilers, but far more detail, and a summary.

Deanna is unlike any other character I've ever known. She is plagued by a darkness inside her, screaming to get out. She deals with it the best way she knows how, she locks herself away from any human contact. In her open plan apartment, she has everything she needs. She gets everything delivered by gorgeous, curious delivery man, Jeremy.

Deanna has no physical contact with anyone. Jessica on the other hand, has more than enough human contact. Jessica is Deanna's alter ego. She is a sex operative, or a web cam girl to be more precise. She gets to see it all, from the harmless and frustrated, to the worryingly messed up.
She does whatever she is asked, she will be anybody she is asked to be. All from her apartment. And she is making a fortune doing it. She has no reason to ever leave her apartment, she can stay locked up and never let out her demons to play.
Until one day things start to change. One client changes everything.

I must admit, to start with, I was a little lost. There was various jumps in chapters, from different storylines, to different characters, it was a little confusing. But gripping still. Each character giving enough information to have me dying to read more, wanting to know what was going on.
After a while it settled down, and all the separate parts started to make sense and show their significance in the storyline.

The tension that ran through this entire story was incredibly intense. You could feel the dark and edgy atmosphere, even in the lighthearted parts. It was hard to label this book as one particular genre, it had so much going on it could entertain a variety of book lovers.
I love the darkness of it all, it showed a side of the internet underworld, that you most likely had no clue about. The detail that went in to this one view of the sex industry was incredible.

Deanna, is one hell of a clever lady. There is not one thing she didn't account for, when she set herself up in her apartment and effectively threw away the key. I was shocked by just how much she needed to sort out and set up. The way she also managed to get herself some clients, that she could swap services with, was also really clever. It just shows how her survival skills covered everything.

There was elements of her job, that were actually really scary, but unfortunately they are a reality in this world, and those parts were what made this a gripping thriller.
Deanna was such an incredibly strong character, I certainly wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of her. She is quite the scary lady on the reverse of her internet persona, of a young college girl.

Again, like in the other books of Alessandra Torre, that I have read before this one. It is obvious that her writing style, and sheer genius at writing incredibly gripping stories, is what makes every book of hers addictive. Right from the first page, I was hooked. Every book of hers I have read, I am always stunned by the twists and turns, that run throughout. Her strong female characters are incredibly entertaining, and I always want to read more!

A fantastic read, again 5 stars doesn't quite cut it. I am lucky enough to have the sequel to now move on to. I can't wait!!

Review - Emerged (Life of Anna, Part Five) - Marissa Honeycutt

WOW! Last part of Anna's story. It's been such a wild, crazy journey it feels sad to reach the end.
I'm going to do this review in two parts. (Some bizarre new thing of mine)
First part is the short and sweet version, for those who aren't too keen on long reviews. Then I'll go in to more detail in the second part.

Short Version:

Incredible! This final part of Anna's story was always going to be bittersweet. I was dying to know how it all ended but also didn't want it to end. So I didn't want to rush it.
I needed to know that Devin would get what he was due, whether Alex would rise from the dead, and whether poor Anna would get her happy ever after. All these things and many, many more were resolved. Emerged is like a book full of explanations. Any confusion over the last couple of books, is fully explained in this final part. I actually felt the clearest I've ever felt, after reading a Life of Anna book.
The writing is, as it always is, completely addictive. I was dragged fully in to the story, and left unable to actually comprehend what is going on in the world around me.
I would say this final part, was perhaps not quite as dark as the other books in the series, but that's not a bad thing. I felt like this whole final book, was like a conclusion to so many mysteries and confusion.
Anyway, perfectly written and concluded. Highly recommended to fans of this series. I feel totally sad that it's come to an end, but I'm also excited to see what is coming next!!

Longer Version.

Emerged is part 5 in The life of Anna, if you have rocked up to this book without reading the other 4 parts first, you will be utterly lost. Go back to the first one.

I loved this final chapter, in The Life of Anna. I think I laughed, cried, held my breath, screamed, and got all hot and flustered, all in the 615 pages (on my ipad) I read over the last few days. Yes, it took me a few days, sadly I received this in the Easter hols, some people like to think Easter is more important than reading about Anna. NOT ME!
So anyway, I finally finished this mammoth book, and was completely satisfied with it.

I'm not going to give any spoilers, but I will briefly summarise what is happening at this stage in the story. If you haven't read any books before this one, don't read on, as it will possibly give away parts from the books before this one.

When book 4 finished, Anna had escaped, from the gathering and Devin. Finally people were starting to see that Anna was being treated basically like scum, by Devin, and anyone loyal to him.
So after an elaborate plan was set up by some of the elders and sons, not loyal to Devin, Anna was helped to escape, and sent on to New York, to hide from Devin with a new identity.
This is where the Emerged starts. Once in New York, Anna is reunited with Aaron and given a room living with him, and a place in the the same Ballet company as him.
It would seem that Anna can finally start to live, without all the restraints. We basically spend quite a large chunk of the book, seeing Anna settle in, getting to find herself, and making new friends. It's actually a very calm time, considering what Anna usually goes through. And Anna spends a lot of this time, actually thinking for herself and discovering quite a few things, she did not know. This does all change soon enough though.
I can't go any further with a summary, as important events start to unravel, as we go in to the next part of the book.

It's like the next part is where all the confusion and foggy parts are all explained fully. Any cryptic parts from the past books, tend to be explained, or shown via memories or flashbacks. It was really enlightening, and I enjoyed seeing it through other characters eyes or point of views.

The final chunk of the book was what I has been looking forward to. Where everything kicks off, all the drama and the parts we have waited 5 books for. It was definitely worth the wait, the tension in those parts was amazing. I felt like everything else around me had been switched to mute, while I was sucked in to the drama of this last chunk of the book.
A couple of times I even felt myself well up, it was that dramatic!

Even though the ending was perfect, amazingly written, and thought out. I actually felt more sad than ever reading that final couple of pages. Yes, I was happy, but so sad that this story had come to an end. It's been one of my favourite series of last year, and this year. I just couldn't fault it. And definitely didn't want it to end. I still had questions, and wanted to see the characters years down the line.

One of the things I loved most about this series, was the world in which it took place. I remember saying that in my review of book 1. I loved all the background details, and everything about this whole new concept. The unique and original idea, that I had not read anything like it before, was fascinating. I just hope that another story comes out of this world, it would be so sad to see it all end.

I more than highly recommend this book to everyone who has loved this series from the start!

MY REVIEW:

Ahhhh end of a series is always sad. I've loved this series, and was sucked in to Vi's life and all the trials and tribulations that we're going on, with her, and all the sexy men coming and going.
Vi is a completely gorgeous, and confident young woman. She has had a crazy few years, and one thing she never lacked was determination. 


In part 3 of this novella series, Vi has returned to Dubai, to work for her father, and his empire. She didn't want to go work for him, she hated the way everything had to be done, his way. He wanted her to marry some random man, who had good family and background, and Vi ran from that. She is now going to give the job a shot. She is incredibly good the job he has offered her, and she has decided it's time to go try. 


Yet when Vi decided to go to Dubai, she was saying goodbye to Thomas. Childhood friend and recent lover. That was really sad, and I was just praying she would change her mind, I was so sure that it would all turn out right for her and Thomas in the end.


Anyway, once back in Dubai, Vi has other distractions on her mind. She is starting to get to grips with the business, and she is good at it. She also has a distraction in the way of one time flame, Sameer. Sexy, hot, and very driven. As much as she wants to keep whatever it is between her and Sameer, just as casual, secret, fun. It is slowly building in to something more.


So without summarising anymore, this final part in Vi's story is a fantastic mix, of secrets, suspense, incredibly hot sex, and Vi finally figuring out what she wants in her big picture.


I really enjoyed this story. It was written amazingly well, like all the rest of this series. I was totally hooked and read it straight through without a break. It was completely unputdownable. 


There was one small thing that I was a little disappointed in, I'm not going to mention what it was in this review, as it will be a huge spoiler. But, I had kinda had my hopes set on a certain thread of the story panning out in a particular way, and it didn't, which I was really upset about. BUT, it was done incredibly well, and I can see why it wasn't done the way I wanted it done. It does make sense, just a little sad. If you have read the series so far, you will know what I mean. But it was still a really fantastic story, and it ended Vi's journey perfectly.
It was also nice to see the twins, Lily and Dahlia, before it ended too. 


Fantastically good series!!! Sad to see it end!

MY REVIEW:

 

Well, wow! That was a hell of a dark ride. It actually took me quite some time to read this book. I started it about a week ago, but had a crazy week, and only had chance to read small chunks each night. Which was agonizing considering how intense this book was.
So although I haven't read the full Pierced Hearts series, I have read Seize Me From Darkness, the book before Yield, and knew some of the characters that were crossing over in to this story. Sometimes, I did feel like I wish I had read the other books in the series, as now and then there were references, that I wish I knew more of what they were about. But, it didn't make any difference to understanding this story. It was easy enough to grasp what was going on.

Wren is a girl on a mission, after losing everyone close to her, she decides to find the person responsible for her fathers death. What she doesn't expect is Glass. After inheriting her fathers millions, Wren has the money and time to employ someone to find out what happened to her father. This is where Glass comes in to it. She doesn't expect to feel the way she does. How Glass makes her feel. After a crazy few days, getting to know each other, and Wren discovering she likes things a little differently, a little darker than she realised.

Wren and Glass relocate to Australia to hunt down the mysterious man, who Glass has told Wren, is responsible for her fathers death. This man they are looking for is not the sort of man you want to cross. He is a mystery, nobody knows who he is, or what he looks like. Only a name, and that he owns some extremely hardcore businesses, Slave houses being one thing he is known for.

What Wren didn't expect, is that this mystery man, had already got her in his sights, and intended to have her.
So after some big planning, and one night where everyone's guards are down, Wren is taken.
That's all I'm going to say. The rest needs to be experienced by the reader. This is a tale of two outcomes. Literally. Two choices for the reader to make. You have Wren, and Glass who is apparently the lighter choice. A man who has a shady past, but obviously cares greatly for Wren and will do anything to get her back. And Moghul, the oddly named, and extremely secretive man. The darker choice. A man with the most darkest of tendencies and predilections, he too has been affected by Wren, and will do anything to have her.

We are shown what Wren is like with both men, how they treat her, and how she is effected by both men. Also what her life could be like, with both. Then we are given the choice. I LOVE books like this, both outcomes are written in this book, and you (the reader) are given the choice of which path, you would prefer to see happen.
Now obviously, I had to read both. There is no way I could read one, and be happy with the outcome. I had to choose, then go back and see what it would of been like the other way.
It was fantastic, and really well done!!

Again, like in the book before this one. (Seize Me From Darkness) The writing style had me hooked,(no pun intended) and I was gripped by the whole world in which we were reading about. It's dark, seedy, dirty. There is no gloss on this world, and it's not prettied up to make it easier to swallow. We get thrown in the deep end, right from the start. Some parts of this story are probably a little hard to read, but if you love this sort of thing. It's perfect.

Again, another fantastic dark story by Cari Silverwood. After reading this book, and still loving her style and easily becoming immersed in this world, I absolutely must, go read the other books in this series!

MY REVIEW:

Well, this is going to be an incredibly hard book to review & rate.
This book is unlike anything I have read before. I never touch thrillers, I'll read anything as long as there is romance. Although there are slight elements of romance in this book. It's really not a romance book, so if you have to have a love story in your books with a HEA, I would definitely advise to walk on past this book.


Now, once we get past the no romance element of this book. We can see it for what it is. Dark, full on suspense and very cleverly written.


If you take a look at the blurb, you know it's not going to be a run of the mill hearts and flowers story. Which is fine, I love unconventional stories, and I absolutely love dark elements in books that I read. Which is why I wanted to read this, but I think that even this surprised me.
There is no way that I can summarise the story, in this review. I didn't read any summaries before jumping in, and I wouldn't advise anyone else to either. You need to jump in with no idea what it's about. As long as you're happy to read a book, minus the romance, it's a fantastic story and concept.


I actually think this book would make an incredible movie, it has such a striking story and the characters would be perfect on screen.
Layna, the mysterious, dark and enigmatic woman. Makes no friends, doesn't even engage in pleasantries. To most she actually comes across as plain rude. She doesn't feel the need to make connections, friends, lovers. She spends the majority of her time, flitting from the present to memories of the past, and watching people. She loves to watch people, and work out their secrets.

But I wanted to devour his secrets. All of them. Until I was bloated and full on the things he wanted no one else to discover.

Bluntly put, Layna is one of a kind. She is unlike any character I have ever come across before. I both hated and loved her. I loved how unique and dark she was, how unconventional and strange she could be. But at the same time, I also found her frustrating, and incredibly confusing. She was constantly contradicting herself. Talking of how unlike her father she was, how she distanced herself from him for 12 years. Yet, that all seems like a big ball of, 'I'll just deceive you, to confuse you'. In fact the majority of the story was a lot of deception, to confuse.
Elian I'm still baffled on. To start with I really liked him, but as time went on and his mask slipped, and his true self came out. I actually just wanted to give him a slap, force him to wake up, and get him far away from the toxicity that is Layna. He became quite annoying after a while, I know I should of pitied him, and it was there, a little. But really I just felt totally frustrated by him, and gave up trying to work him out. '


Now, I will admit I read the last 50% of this book at about midnight last night, with burning eyes and constant yawning, in the dark. But, I couldn't stop reading. So because it was so late, and I was so tired, I probably wasn't as clear headed as I could of been, and probably didn't grab all the clues, like I normally would of done. I don't read a lot of suspense and thriller (practically none), but I watch a lot of that on TV and love to guess the storyline, and outcome. But honestly, I just didn't guess the outcome. I spent 15 mins reading reviews with spoilers last night, after finishing this book, just to try and get my head around what everyone else came up with. And about 80% of people all said they had guessed what was going on, practically from the start, that it was somewhat predictable, and easy to see. I DIDN'T!! Yes, I know that makes me rather slow, and I will blame the tiredness. But I really didn't see it coming until the end. Even in the last chapters, I was sat thinking.....'No, this won't end like this. I know it won't, it couldn't' Yep, that was me being completely delusional. It's obvious I read a lot of HEA stories. 


I'm not saying the ending was bad. It wasn't. It was just like the rest of this story. Different, unconventional, shocking, and very, very dark.
The most annoying thing for me, was the unanswered questions. I was led in bed for so long, wondering about some of the events. Did they really happen that way, what has really been happening all these years, and because everything ended up being quite a shock to me, I feel like I should of paid more attention to some little details.
This book was actually my first of A. Meridith Walters. I hadn't read any of her other books before this, so I have no idea if this was true to her style. But I will say, it was beautifully written. How something so dark, ugly, and twisted, can be written to the point of sounding, like poetry sometimes is a mystery to me. But I was in awe. It painted a dark and gloomy picture, but it was kind of beautiful in a depressing way. Yeah that sounded really strange, I know. It's hard to explain how this book made me feel, but for all the things I could moan about, I was completely addicted, and it definitely left me thinking and wondering. 


Now if someone would like to explain the entire story back to me, and perhaps draw some pictures. I may feel a little more clearer on what happened. ;)
Very dark, very confusing, quite nasty and not very nice, but a real genius idea and beautifully written. It will stick with me for quite some time.
The only other book, I could in any way compare this to, and only for some elements, not all. Would be Mud Vein. I felt the same way after reading that, as how I felt after reading this. That dark hole kind of emptiness. And stacks of questions.
If you love dark thrillers, and don't focus on romance and happy endings, I absolutely recommend this.
Rating I'm still kinda lost on. I will give it a 4, because it stuck in my mind and I was blown away by just how clever it was.

Review - Coda - CD Reiss

Wow, the end of such an amazing series.
Songs of Submission series left such an impression on me, when I first read it. It was my first novella series, and the story was completely unique to me. I was totally enraptured by the gritty, erotic tale, of an beautiful singer, with incredible determination to succeed in the music world. And the powerful, dominant, and obscenely rich man. Who interrupted her focus.

I'm not going to crazy on the summarising of 8 other books before this finale. There is a lot of amazing content, and if you are reading this review, then more than likely you have read them already.

So that brings me to Coda. Book 9. After quite a long break after the end of Sing, I had forgotten quite a lot of detail in the series. So I had to have a re-read first. The whole series was just as captivating and addictive, as it was the first time.
So I was able to go in to coda, refreshed on the storyline. Which is why this review took a little longer to get to.
Again, I couldn't possibly summarise Coda. Not without spoiling 8 books worth of amazing content. This is definitely a story you have to read for yourself, right from the start.

What I will say is, it was most definitely worth the wait. Another chapter in Monica and Jonathan's story would of been fantastic. But to get a full story, when you think it's all done and dusted, was an amazing treat.
It flows straight back in where the story left off in Sing. Even if I hadn't re-read the series before, I wouldn't of found it difficult to pick back up. The characters were still addictive and hadn't lost their edge. The story was just as intense as before. This time with different hurdles being thrown at Jonathan and Monica.

I did feel on the edge of my seat for quite a bit of this story. Knowing something had to be around the corner, to rock their world, and not in a good way. But not knowing what it would be. It left me quite nervous whilst reading. I will admit, there was something thrown in, to have me stupidly crying, I knew there would be, and I'd like to say I was prepared for it. But, I wasn't.

After the drama surrounding a huge portion of the books before Coda, I knew that they weren't ready for their Happy Ever After just yet. They hadn't had it easy getting to where they were now, so I know their would be another hurdle.

It was all written incredibly beautifully, although it was pure pain, and sadness. Like every other part of this series, it was written in such a way, to rip you apart, before you could feel content again. I sniffed and snotted my way through a huge portion, but upon reaching the end, I felt stupidly satisfied. Well, as satisfied as I could feel, knowing the end had actually been reached this time.

A lot of issues had been resolved for Monica and Jonathan by the end, although I am still wondering over one large issue within their story, but I guess we will never know the answer to that particular question, and I'm okay with that. These stories have all been written in a way, where although you are left on the edge, you just don't mind. So many other feelings and emotions have wiped you out, that you're left kind of numb.

Now, I couldn't review this book without mentioning just how incredibly hot, some of the scenes were. It actually felt like they had jumped up in intensity since reading Sing, but maybe I had just not read anything as hot till now. Some of these scenes blew my mind, and of course made me want a Jonathan Drazen of my own, yeah not gonna happen. So I'll just have to keep reading these books, and dreaming.

C.D. Reiss has been one of my favorite authors, since I first came across the SOS series, it left a huge impression on me, and I've jumped at anything else she has written. But, Monica and Jonathon's story started my love for her books, and this final chapter in their story just proved what an incredible author she is. I felt stupidly satisfied with this final story in the Songs of Submission series, and will miss all the characters. Waiting patiently (or not) for another Drazen sibling to get my fix!
