Release + Review - I'd Rather Not - Lani Lynn Vale

Oakley Spurlock is dying.

She only has weeks to live thanks to a freak infection that totally and completely destroyed her kidneys.

Despite her family’s desperation, not a single one of them is a match.

In a last-ditch attempt, Oakley’s father takes to social media to beg for help to save his daughter’s life.
***

Pace Vineyard is lost. So lost, in fact, that he’s not sure he wants to be found.

But then a beautiful woman’s face is splashed across social media, and Pace finds a spark in his soul for the first time since a bomb went off beside him.

He’s already missing two legs. What’s one more kidney?

At least, that’s what he tells himself.

What he doesn’t expect is to give his heart to the woman, too. Or for the woman to run away with it and force him to follow.

Johnaka's Review

“She’s done it again, 5 stars”

Vale has a way of weaving us a story that sucks you in from the first page. I loved everything about Oakley and Pace. The way they were tied together from the start without actually knowing each other. The way they fell hard and fast. Add in the secondary characters and I was sold. One thing is for sure if you one-click I’d Rather Not you won’t regret it.

Pace’s life didn’t start off as a good one, but he turned his life around. He cut out the negative people as much as he could. He served his country and was injured in doing so. But he didn’t let that stop him he kept pushing to be better than before. He had heard about his best friend Ford’s sister for years and felt something for her every time her name was brought up. And when scrolling through social media he finds that she needs he help he can’t help but step up. He’s not just giving her life, but his heart at the same time.

Oakley never thought about what she wanted to do in so many years’ time. But death does funny things to you. When she finds out one of her brother’s old military brothers is willing to give her a second shot, she can’t help but be grateful. Even when he’s given so much to those around him. The thing about Pace though is she can she herself giving him everything in return as well. The question is will she be around long enough to give him everything she can?

What Celeste doesn’t expect is for the Dark Set to set her up with another expression mage, Zane Chambers. He wants nothing to do with Celeste, and the feeling is mutual. But there’s no denying Zane he has answers about her magic, answers that will help her steal the magic abilities from all the members of the Dark Set.

Release + Review - Kiss Me Again - Vivian Wood

From WSJ and USA Today bestseller Vivian Wood comes a steamy, angsty second chance romance.

Rachel.
The rich girl who stole my breath away ten years ago.
The one who had a Navy man like me wrapped around her little finger.
The only person to make my heart ache.
When I disappeared from her life five years ago, I never thought I’d see her again.
And yet here she is, at my ranger station, looking as surprised as I am.
When my boss tells me that Rachel is my summer assignment, I groan.
No good can come from opening up the old wounds.
Rachel demands to know where I’ve been.
I don’t have the heart to tell her the unvarnished truth.
But that doesn’t stop the heat between us.
I dream of plowing my hands into her hair, bending her back, and making her mine once more.
My dark secret, her broken engagement, and so much water under the bridge threaten to shake our very foundations.
Will we be able to put love first this time around?

EXCERPT
I dip my paddle into the lake, testing out how it works.
“No, no,” Grayson says. “You are doing it wrong. You want to go with the water. Look…”
He picks up his own paddle and dips it in the lake, moving it smoothly. I try to copy his movement, but he just sighs loudly.
“No.” He demonstrates again. “You are going against the water. If you expect to get anywhere—”
“Alright!” I say through gritted teeth. “It’s my first time. Just let me—”
I stroke my paddle in the water. Grayson explodes.
“You still aren’t doing it right! How hard can it possibly be to follow instructions?” He grabs the end of my paddle, exasperated. “Just—”
“Let go!” He’s pushing me close to the edge. I can feel my temper starting to balloon up. Gripping my paddle, I rip it from his hands.
Anger flares in his eyes. “You are so—”
“What is your problem, Grayson?!”
He’s already got a response loaded. “You are my problem! What in the fuck are you even doing here, Rachel?”
“I could ask you the same thing, but you would probably not have an answer,” I grind out. “Again. I generally don’t like to repeat my mistakes.”
He bristles. “Are you saying that I was a mistake, then?”
I narrow my eyes. “That’s not what I meant, but… yes. My mother’s right about you.”
As soon as the words are out of my mouth, I wish I could take them back. My mother said a lot of hideous things about him while we were together. How is he supposed to know that I’m referencing something she said when he was already gone?
Grayson gets this wounded look in his eyes for the barest second. Watching it is like being slapped in the face.
“I didn’t mean—”
“Enough.” He glares at me. “Just use your fucking paddle like a normal person, okay?”
He stands up and carefully turns around, so that he’s facing away from me. He dips his paddle in the water and starts rowing wordlessly. I mimic him and he switches to the other side of the canoe with a heavy sigh.
We actually move pretty quickly then, especially since we are not communicating. I realize that I probably should have stopped back on the shore for a sample of water, but I guess we can stop on the return journey.
I try to breathe and paddle in time with Grayson’s mighty strokes. As we leave the shore behind us, I look up at the calm blue sky overhead. Except the sky isn’t blue exactly; it’s light gray now, thunderclouds gathering overhead.
Struggling to keep up with Grayson, I watch the sky darken. It’s definitely about to rain. As soon as I can see the shore on the other side, I see raindrops begin to hit the lake’s smooth surface.
“Shit,” I hear Grayson grumble.
Digging my paddle into the water deeper doesn’t help as much as I want it to. The skies open up and dump rain onto us. There is suddenly water everywhere, each raindrop seeming to bounce back up from where it falls on the lake.
When we are almost there, Grayson actually gets out of the canoe, soaking himself up though to the waist. Unsure what to do, I try to stand up. I see Grayson glance back at me and do a double take.
“Rachel—”
But it’s too late. I tip the canoe over and fall out, flailing awkwardly. The only thing that breaks my fall is the water, which is shockingly cold. Then I am submerged for several breathless seconds, underneath the lake’s muddy waters.
I feel something move in the water beside me. My heart starts to pound.
Grayson materializes right there, grabbing me and pulling me to the surface of the lake. I gasp for breath. My arms automatically go around his neck as he pulls me toward the shore, dripping wet.
Even though I’m half drowned, I’m also intimately aware of how warm the hard muscle of his chest is. He holds me tight, almost uncomfortably so. If everything wasn’t happening all at once, I might make some noise about it.
I try to clear my face of my own water-dampened hair. He runs up onto the shore with me in his arms, not stopping for a second. He keeps going until he trots into a little lean-to.
Only when there is something over both of our heads does he stop and breathe. His eyes dart to and fro, scanning the downpour outside. He leans forward and pulls the door closed just a little.
Something about his behavior is… off, somehow.
“Grayson,” I say, gently putting my hands on his chest. “Gray?”
He looks at me as if he’s seeing me for the first time. When he speaks, his voice is oddly quiet. “Hey.”
I squirm a little but he doesn’t get the picture. “Can you put me down, please?”
There is a moment of hesitation there. I can see in his eyes that he wants to say no. But he lets me down.
And for just the briefest moment, soaking wet and pressed against his warm body, that I don’t want him to let me go. I peer up into his eyes and wonder if he ever thinks about kissing me. And he looks right back at me, his eyes glinting blue.
Then he pushes me away. It’s so silly to feel this way, but it’s like being rejected by him all over again. My eyes mist over and I curse myself for being so weak.
Grayson heads out into the pouring rain and I watch him go, determined not to cry.

Johnaka's review

“Second chances, 4 stars”

I got into the heartbreaking story Kiss me Again. I wanted these two who once fell in love as you adults to get their HEA. And the best part is they didn’t see each other coming. My heart broke for Grayson and the heck he went through. I hated what Rachel had become to get over the loss of Grayson. But the best part is they got back together.

Rachel is a product of her environment, but she wasn’t always. There was a time where she didn’t care about appearances. Then her world shifted, well its shifting again and a ghost from her past is coming back. She has tons of questions but do any of them really matter? Will she get out from under her family’s thumbs? Will she get Gray back? Only one way to find out.

I liked the dynamic between Gray and Rachel. They balanced each other quite well. I liked the healing they both accomplished together in the national park. What dropped it from a 5 star to a 4 for me is something completely trivial but I couldn’t ignore it. I felt like someone with Rachels degree especially to the extent she did that she would have been more comfortable outdoors. She made a lot of rookie mistakes when it came to say packing her bag, her boots, that I found unbelievable for someone with her education. But at the same time, it fit with where she was from and the type of family she was raised in. it was really a catch 22.

Either way Kiss me Again is a solid story I think most would enjoy.

Release + Review - Fury - Laramie Briscoe

Family is number one; whether they are blood related or patched in.

At thirteen-years-old, the bastard son of an asshole who wanted me to fail, I learned that lesson.

Thanks to one man.

Liam Walker raised me, taught me how to be an adult, and loved the hell out of my mother, me, and my sisters. He funneled my anger into productiveness when teenage me lost the love of his life. Because of him, I knew how to love her when she came back. His dedication to me and my sisters was the example I needed when my twins were born.

Tracing his footsteps may not have been my birthright, but him turning over the president patch to me is what I’ve waited for since I was thirteen. Calm, cool, and collected – that’s how he ran The Heaven Hill MC – and it’s how I’ve run it too.

Until now.

Ambushed on our own streets. Fighting an enemy we didn’t know we had. Innocent people hurt all because of a misguided sense of entitlement.

The difference between me and Liam? I have anger I’ve held back, kept my emotions under control for half my life, been the loving man I’m supposed to be, but for this piece of shit who threatened us? I’m about to unleash something he’s never seen before.

My fury.

Louise's Review

Fury is book 3 in the Heaven Hill Generations series, Drew is all grown up and wearing the president patch but with that label he has responsibilities not only to his brothers but everyone’s family too.  When a threat turns up the heat Drew has to make a decision to push a little harder and get the rat out of his hiding spot.

Briscoe has taken Fury to the next level; the raw emotions that Drew spills onto the pages left me grabbing for tissues, gasping in shock and reaching for a drink to help numb the pain.

“Instead of the fury i’ve felt for most of the last year, I’d much rather feel the love, contentment, and satisfaction of being the person everyone needs me to be. Father. Husband. President. Brother. Friend.”

I personally loved reading this story, if you have not read the Heaven Hills MC novels, I would highly recommend you go back and start from the beginning, knowing the back story of all the characters is not only beneficial but a fantastic read that you wont regret.

Release + Review - Coming up Roses - Staci Hart

Today is the day! Coming Up Roses by Staci Hart is LIVE!
This new release is the first in the Bennet Brothers series, a spin off of the Austen Series. Tess and Luke are GOALS! Grab your copy today on Amazon or read for free in Kindle Unlimited!

____________________________

Everyone hates parts of their job.

Maybe it’s the paperwork. Maybe it’s the day-to-day grind. Maybe it’s that client who never knows what they want, or the guy who always cooks fish in the microwave.

But not me. I love every corner of the Longbourne Flower Shop, every flower, every petal, every stem. I love the greenhouse, and I love Mrs. Bennet, my boss. I love creating, and I love being a florist. I don’t hate anything at all.

Except for Luke Bennet.

The Bennet brothers have come home to help their mom save the flower shop, and Luke is at the helm. His smile tells a tale of lust, loose and easy. He moves with the grace of a predator, feral and wild. A thing unbridled, without rules or constraint.

When he comes home to save Longbourne, I almost can’t be mad at him.

Almost.

He doesn’t remember that night I’ll never forget. That kiss, touched with whiskey and fire. It branded me like a red-hot iron. But it meant nothing to him.

Everyone hates part of their job, and I hate Luke Bennet.
Because if I don’t, I’ll fall in love with him.

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. When she's not writing, she's reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics

Johnaka's Review

“All the feels, 5 stars”

Hart takes us on a journey with Luke and Tess. They are opposites in the best kind of way. He loves adventure and winging it where Tess likes her schedule and the known. Two people who shouldn’t work but with Hart’s witchcraft they do. I laughed, I swooned, and at times I wanted to gibs smack a character or two. One thing is for sure I cannot wait to see where Hart takes the rest of the Bennett’s on their journeys to love.

Luke loves learning a little bit of everything and has never had the desire to stay in one place or job for long. Now he’s back home in NYC after a couple years in LA. He’s home to save the flower shop that’s been in his family for generations. What he didn’t expect was Tess. Well that’s a lie, he knew Tess would be there but he didn’t expect to click with her. To want her. Will he be able to convince her to take a chance on him?

Tess has worked for the Bennett’s for years and she wouldn’t have it any other way. She has her routine and is happy with her life. But is she really happy or just content? When Luke comes home, she can’t help but let the old hate flare. You know what they say though, there’s a fine line between love and hate. Which side of the line will Tess land on?

“He disarmed me, stole my grenades, took down my walls brick by brick, left me defenseless.”

BLURB

A sweet, flirty, and heartfelt romance with two roommates that spend one enthralling summer together.

Famous author, Gabe Mitchell, doesn’t fare much better. On top of watching his roommate letting her life pass by, he also suffers from a major bout of writer’s block.

Hoping a change of scenery will get them both out of their rut, Gabe takes matters into his own hands and whisks Monica away to his own personal haven.

What neither one of them expects is the attraction to each other to bloom even though Monica will leave Brooksville in a matter of weeks.

Their time together is filled with skimpy bathing suits, sexy fantasy book inspirations, hot tub make-out sessions, and new job prospects.

It’s plenty to reignite their creative flames, but will it be enough to turn their one short summer into something more?

Pulling out the barstool beside her, I sit down, wanting to be on her eye level. It takes me bumping my knees into hers for her to look at me, but at least she finally does. “Hey! Remember it’s me you’re talking to. We’ve been sharing a house for most of the last year. That’s pretty much as close as anyone has ever been to me, not that I would do this for just anyone. You’re a very sweet, kind, caring, and talented person. You need to get it in your pretty head that you don’t owe me a thing. I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.”

My words don’t exactly trigger the response I intended as I watch the pink tinge travel up Monica’s neck and cheeks before she covers her face with her hands. “Oh gosh. Stop it already. I can't remember the last time I blushed. How embarrassing.”

Flabbergasted.

I’m absolutely stunned she’s reacting this way.

It’s also interesting she can still surprise me after we’ve known each other all this time.

Johnaka's Review

"Can she right her wrongs? 5 stars”

Amber is the best at what she does. She has always taken pride in what she does. But when she got burned by those who never should have burned her, she’s out for revenge. Now the blow back from that revenge is on her tail. Amber has too much to lose at this point and she must end the threat before they find her. What she never expected was the help of a man. A man who makes her want something she never even thought about before. The question is will she let Jesse in?

Covert Vengeance is only my second Cross story and when I finished I couldn’t help but think why haven’t I read more books by her? I love her story telling and the way she pulled me into a world most people don’t even think about. One thing is for sure I cannot wait to see where Cross takes this series and who’s story comes next. You won’t regret one-clicking Covert Vengeance.
