EXCERPT:

That kid that could be mine.

I get up and let the empty bottle drop to the floor. The woods are eerily quiet, as if it can sense my anger. As if it knows the bitterness that lingers in my veins, as if it knows the burn of not knowing anything.

Like the woods, I’m left in the dark. Completely.

Branches and twigs crunch under my feet as I increase my pace to a gentle jog. And again, to a slow run. Then to a sprint.

The need to know increases with every footstep, as evenly paced as the ticking of the clock. It doesn’t matter that I’ve probably drunk too much beer to be here or that we’ve only been back for a matter of days.

I can’t be in this shithole full of memories without knowing. I can’t move on until I know. I can’t forgive her for a single fucking thing until I know—and even then, maybe I won’t be able to.

Maybe she’s unforgivable.

Instead of knocking on the back door like I did yesterday, I round the side of the house to the front door. The front room light glows softly through the curtains, but the rest of the house is dark.

My chest heaves with the exertion of my run here and I grab the doorframe to balance myself. I’m definitely too fucking drunk for this conversation, but what the hell.

I bang on the door, once, twice, again and again and again. “Sofie! Open the fuckin’ door!”

“Shut up!” she hisses, yanking it open. “The hell’re you doing here?”

I smirk, leaning against the wall. “Shouldn’t I be askin’ you that, princess?”

“Are you drunk?” Her voice rises a little at the end, and her eyes widen.

Those eyes. Fuck, those baby blues that have always undone me.

“Drunk? No. If I was drunk I’d be sitting at home like a miserable bastard and not here facing the cause of my misery.”

“You’re being an asshole. I don’t have to listen to this.”

She pushes on the door, but I wedge my foot in front of it. I let go of the wall and grab the edge of the door.

“Actually, you do.”

She can’t overpower me, and she knows it, because she lets up and the door swings open. “Why are you here, Conner?”

“You have a kid.”

She smacks her lips together. “Yep.”

“When? When did you have her?”

Sofie takes a deep breath in and presses her hands to her stomach. They’re shaking, even as she links her fingers to hide it. I can see that fucking tremble.

She whispers something but I’m too pre-occupied by her hands to hear it.

“What?”

“August last year,” she repeats, still a whisper.

August. Last year. My stomach clenches as I meet her eyes. “When? When in fuckin’ August, Sofie?”

“August fifteenth.” Her voice hitches halfway through the ‘fifteenth.’

Almost seven months to the day she walked out on me and the rest of Shelton Bay.

Adrenaline hums through my body, and I stare at her. At the tears building in her eyes, the quiver of her lips, the bob of her throat as she swallows harshly.

It’s no different from the burn in my chest, the twisting of my stomach.

“Is she mine?”

She shudders and a tear drips from her eye.

“Sofie. Is. She. Mine?!”

Review - Finding Eden (A Sign of Love Series) - Mia Sheridan

WOW. Again, I am utterly blown away by just how perfect and beautiful this story is.

Becoming Calder wiped me of all speech, and left me spellbound for days. It's the sort of book that you can't get out of your head, even after reading other books. So, to have that feeling brought back after reading Finding Eden, is the perfect recipe for another book hangover.

Finding Eden, is the follow up and conclusion to the story that started with Becoming Calder. It follows straight on where Becoming Calder left off, and anybody who has read Becoming Calder, knows just how badly Finding Eden was needed. The perfect flow, captivating characters, and intense story continued without flaw in to Finding Eden.

"There's a spring. I'll wait for you. I'll be there."

There is absolutely no way I can summarise the plot of Finding Eden, as I normally do, because this book is a continuation of one story and so much happens within the story, I couldn't possibly spoil it.

What I can say is, Mia Sheridan's writing was incredible. The way I felt like I was on this emotional journey with the characters was crazy, but it was down to such perfect writing. I spent the majority of the book, with endless tears running down my face. It wasn't a pretty sight, but there is no way you could read either of these two books and not well up. The raw emotions that are oozing out of every word, whether it's sadness or happiness is addictive. There are some key moments in this book, (you will know them, when you get there) where I could feel myself gasping at something I know will end up making me cry again. Prepare yourself for the ugly sniffing.

"I hadn't moved on, Eden. I'd have never moved on. Not ever. I just... I don't even know. I wasn't trying to move on, I was just trying to survive. I'm so damn sorry."

Calder and Eden started off as two people with such beauty inside and out, they couldn't be faulted. They had a love so strong, that it withstood anything thrown at them, it left me totally awestruck. I read a LOT of love stories, all different kinds. The ones that stick with me, are the ones that leave me breathless. Love stories that withstand time and hold their own against all the endless love stories that follow afterwards. This will be without a doubt, one of those that stays with me. I actually didn't want their story to end, it was so captivating.

"What I did know was that I loved a girl. And I knew I loved her in a way I'd never, ever recover from. I knew I loved her to the very core of myself. And I knew she loved me back."

This series was my first of Mia Sheridan, and I can wholeheartedly say it won't be my last. I loved everything about the world she created and the love story that wrapped itself around everything. It has been quite some time since I could read a book and not find a single flaw. Finding Eden (and Becoming Calder) are examples of a timeless love story, so perfect you could easily go back a year later and still be wowed by them.

I 1000% recommend this book to everybody, especially hopeless romantics like me. A beautiful love story that will stay with you a very long time.

"Five life changing, extremely satisfied stars"

Synopsis:

Casey may have not known what was in store for her when she met Jonah Black on MyTrueMatch.com, but now that she’s with him, life has become even more unexpected. She's discovered someone else in the picture and now she cannot figure out how she fits into the puzzle.
Convinced that he doesn’t need her, Casey is torn between giving up and doing whatever it takes to help her family. But Jonah, it turns out, needs her more than she knows.
Time is something neither of them have.
Can they hold each other together as the clock runs out?

Synopses for the other parts:

The Donor (Part One)

Casey Williams and her family are poor. Her parents work non-stop and so does she, just so they can keep the trailer roof from leaking.
They’re getting by fine enough when the headaches start. Then there’s the nosebleeds. And the inevitable doctor’s bills.
Fortunately for Casey, there’s MyTrueMatch.com: an exclusive, quick, and almost easy way to pay it all back before her parents even have to know.
All she has to do is give a man she’s never met whatever he wants from her body.
Inside or out.

The Donor (Part Two)

When Casey joined MYTrueMatch.com, she never imagined she would meet a man who not only helps her pay the bills, but has been nothing but a gentleman.
As the nose bleeds make way for worse symptoms, Casey can’t help the feelings she has for Jonah, despite how he may never return them. And he’s been keeping things from her. Big things. How does he make his money, and who is that girl in the picture?
With the clock ticking, can she find the answers she’s looking for?

MY REVIEW

The Donor Part 3, the conclusion to this unique and intriguing story.
So I had read parts 1 and 2 and was totally captivated. I loved the concept of this story and Jonah and Casey were addictive characters to follow. I did feel like I wanted to cry 99% of the way through.
I did read this as soon as I received it, but Ive had to spend a day trying to decide what my final thoughts were. I was a little torn.

The story is told in little time jumps. Which once you got the grips of the pattern, it was easy enough to follow. That was the same for this final part, and I think the way in which the story is told, is what made it so emotional for me. It's like there is 2 story paths running, alternating in sections. So you would read part from the present, then flip to an event that happened before, then back. It helped to draw out the final moments of this book. Just when it got to the part where everyones fate was decided, it would flip back in time. I was practically biting my nails off wondering what was happening.

The same tender and sweet friendship between Casey and Jonah is ever present towards the end. The daft and sentimental side of me knew what I wanted to happen right from the start, and I must admit I thought I knew how it would end up being played out. The connection they have seems to become more important, when Jonah takes Casey to his lab, in his cabin. There Casey learns more about his work and also why exactly she ended up staying with Jonah, while he took care of her. Something that seemed quite selfless and sweet, actually turned out to be an ulterior motive. Making me feel even more sorry for Casey. She didn't seem to get any breaks, and deserved something good. Of course Jonah wasn't being totally selfish, and yes he is justified in what he wanted Casey around for. But, it still didn't make me feel too good about the conclusion.

The ending is what left me struggling for ages. I wasn't sure what I felt. I wanted to think it was the best way for it to end. But, i'm still a little torn. I guess I shouldn't of assumed I knew how it was going to play out. It was definitely a shocker for me, but I feel a little sad still. I won't say anymore, as I don't want to spoil this for anyone yet to see, how this amazing novella series finishes. This book is awesome and definitely something completely unique and different. I'm so glad I got to read this!

Review - Seize Me From Darkness (Pierced Hearts #4) - Cari Silverwood

This book was definitely addictive reading. Not for the faint hearted of course. ;)
So although this book was book 4 in the Pierced Heart series, I heard that it could be read as a standalone. As I hadn't read any of the others in the series, and loved the synopsis I thought I would give it a go.

So, the story starts straight in to the action. No build up or summarising. It actually almost felt like I had missed a story before, which I had, but apparently that wasn't Jazmine & Pieter's story, they were just in the story. So I was a little thrown at first. Almost wishing I had read the one before. But after a while I picked it up easily enough and got stuck in to it.

Jazmine, a freelance journalist, was captured for the Client. Somebody wanted Jazmine to suffer and went to great extremes to make sure she did. Which meant she was now being tortured, and abused regularly. Locked up in a cell and only allowed out once a week, to take part in a scene. This scene had to be set to a certain standard. Each one had to be made harder and more painful each time. All this was done in front of the Client, somebody she couldn't see, but obviously he was watching her, suffer.

Pieter, an ex cop and mercenary had been on the job, working for the man who had captured these slaves. He went on to attempt to rescue Jazmine, and obviously failed. This part was in the previous book, so I can only go by what is said about before. When we see Pieter, he has been captured, beaten and told he had a new job, in place of his death. He has gone from attempting to free Jazmine, to now being her torturer. He would be part of the scenes. Meaning he did what he was told, or she would suffer a worst fate at the hands of guards and Gregor and he would be most likely killed.

Through their forced roles, we learn that Pieter is actually quite the sadist and loves his role a little too much. Also, that Jazmine enjoys it a great deal. So the scenes are quite the test of limits. They start off quite tame but end up in new boundaries. When locked up in the cell, Jazmine is told Pieter will be her new cell mate. So the 2 of them are together 24/7 and learn quite a lot about themselves and each other.

I can't really summarise anymore as there is far too much that could be given away. The book takes a different turn at one point and it's quite surprising. This book is never dull or boring. It's full on action oozing out of every page. Plenty of shockers too for those who love to see how far the book will go.

Jazmine went through a massive change. It was quite intriguing to watch her make this change. I always love to read books where there is a challenge, I think Jazmine was quite the challenge. She started off quite cunning and feisty yet changed into a perfect submissive. Pieter also had quite a turnaround. I started off feeling one way about him, then I couldn't decide how i felt. He was obviously alive through his dominant side. They went on quite a dark and disturbing journey together, and came out of it in their own little HEA.

A very dark and twisted romance, that had me totally hooked to every little twist and turn. Incredibly entertaining. If you like the darker stuff, this is perfection.

I should make a point of saying, this book has a huge amount of sensitive subject matter. So go in to it knowing it's not your everyday regular romance. If you like it dark, go get this!
