Lisa Helen Gray (1987) born in Birmingham. All Lisa has ever wanted to do in life, apart from be a mother, is to read and write, and at a certain age she wanted to be a princess.We can all dream, right?

FIGHTING SILENCE

"That wasn't yours to take away," he exploded into the otherwise silent night. His words echoed off the surrounding buildings, each wave slicing me to the quick all over again. "That was our place. Not yours." His voice cracked right alongside my heart.
"Yeah, well, there was a lot of stuff that wasn't yours to take either." I held his gaze, desperately trying to be strong, but as his eyes grew wide, I whimpered.
His long legs strode forward, stopping only inches away from me. He was crowding me, but he still leaned in closer to my face. "There is nothing in this world that was ever more mine than you," he stated. Though it was the absolute truth, I wished with all my heart that it were a lie.
"Till," I cried, swiping the tears from my eyes.
"Why!" he shouted, causing his muscles to tense under the force. "Goddamn it! I needed that place."
Porch lights flashed on from the surrounding apartments, illuminating not only the dark but also my rage.
I shoved my hands into his chest. "What about what I needed? You left! I waited in that fucking apartment for weeks."
He didn't budge, but my bare feet slipped, sending me toward the ground. Impossibly fast, Till's hand snaked out and caught my arm. I didn't let his chivalrous gesture douse my fire. I had six months’ worth of words to say to the man I was irrevocably in love with.
"You took what you wanted. Then you left me."
"Doodle," he whispered.
I had been perilously close to the edge of insanity, and with one single word, he’d pushed me over.
I lost it completely.
Pounding my fists against his chest, I screamed at the top of my lungs, "It's Eliza! My name is fucking Eliza! Not Doodle!" I spun to march away, but Till's arms folded around me, lifting me off my feet to restrain me.
I was miniscule compared to him. There was no use in fighting, but I still kicked my legs, irrationally desperate to get away from him—but only because I knew I couldn't keep him for forever.
"Stop it!" he growled into my ear. "I know your Goddamn name—probably better than I know my own.

Review - Fighting Silence (On the Ropes, #1) - Aly Martinez

Wow, she did it again. It's amazing the way Aly Martinez manages to keep on throwing out books, that seem to grip and squeeze at every emotion I have.

Okay, so my favorite book of AM's so far has been Among the Echoes, it completely blew me away, and left my brain numb for days. So I was really excited to be reading a book, that was following in the direction of Slate, from ATE even if it wasn't his book.

This time it's Till Page's story. Till, has had a completely crappy start in life. He and his 2 younger brothers, know what it's like to be hungry and not have the things they need or want in life. Their parents are an extremely poor excuse for parents, and Till pretty much does the job for both of them, by bringing up his brothers.
It makes Till grow up extremely fast, and become very hardened to a lot of things.

The one thing Till never hardens to is, Eliza. She was his safe place, and comfort when life was just too tough.
At 13 both of them end up finding each other, when they both end up hiding out in a deserted, empty apartment, in their block. It's their escape from reality, their fantasy world.
As the years pass, they become even closer. Yet they never go past the friendship status. Although it's obvious both of them want to.

Aside from Eliza, and his brothers, the only thing Till truly loves is boxing.
A gym opens up and has a kids program, where they can train, learn, even eat at the gym, and just for the cost of helping out around the gym. It's run by Slate from ATE, and it's perfect for Till, and later his brothers.

Once they graduate, things change in a number of ways. Now Eliza has college and Till is concerned she will move on without her.
One night changes everything between them, and things start to pick up a different sort of pace from then on.

I absolutely loved Till's strength, even when things were tough, and they got seriously tough for Till. He had everything thrown at him, and he just got on with it. Also I loved Eliza's rock like role for all of the Page family. She was completely adorable, and took everything on the chin.
I'm not going to actually mention any of the key things that happen to Till and Eliza, as everything that happens in this book is so perfectly written and the emotion involved will have you crying stupidly one minute and snort-giggling through the tears. It's such an incredible mix of ups and downs, and will leave you feeling a complete mess for about 30% of the book.

The ending was so crazy overwhelming, so many things happening at once, I had to pause and take stock of everything I had read. It was a fantastic ending though, and it has left a big hole for what I assume would be the opening for the next book, in the series. Which I can't wait for. I'm just hoping it's Till's brother Flint's turn.

Just like any of AM's other books, not only is there suspense and twists and turns, that will have you screaming, but the many smoldering, hot sex scenes were incredibly intense. Like fan your face hot!

Such an amazingly good book, that will leave you sad, happy, angry, possibly even horny! But, it has definitely left me wanting more. I can't wait until the next book in the series is out. I need more of the Page boys!

Review - Summer Star (Blue Phoenix, #1.5) - Lisa Swallow

Summer Star tells the story of when Dylan, lead singer of rock band Blue Phoenix, met Sky, a regular girl trying to escape from a bad break up.
They literally crash in to each other one day, down a country lane. Both running away from life, and straight in to each other.
This time we get the beginning of Summer Sky from Dylan's POV. 

When I first read Summer Sky, the first Blue Phoenix story, and where it all began. My favorite parts had been when Dylan and Sky first met. I loved how they came to be at the cottage at the same time. Those first scenes where they were getting to know each other were the best. Everything was all quiet crushing, and learning about each other, perhaps finding themselves at the same time. 

 "Every funny thing you say, every time you blush, even just being in the same room fills me with an unexpected urge to kiss you. I don't understand, because this isn't what I want."

They say you can never really get the feeling back, of reading a book for the first time. With Summer Star, it kind of felt like I was. It was like reading a different book, but also one I love,  I already loved the characters and the story, but it felt new and different. 

 

 "When you look at me the way you do, I love and hate it at the same time. When you don't look at me the way I want you to, that's even worse."

Dylan's POV is so different from when we read it in Sky's POV. Dylan is a Rock God and desired by millions all over the world. When he meets Sky, he isn't in an entirely good place. He is battling inner demons, and needs to be as far from the world of Blue Phoenix as he can get. We get to be inside rock god Dylan Morgan's head, as he is blown away by beautiful, and unique Sky. Hearing his reactions and thoughts was awesome. You can even see his transition from the man he was when he crashed in to Sky, to whom he becomes after spending a few days, with the girl who slowly steals his heart.

 "Summer Sky, you're not who I want; you're who I need right now."

Again, this POV shows just how versatile author Lisa Swallow can be. Reverse POV's never usually grab my attention, but she made it feel like reading a whole new story. It was gripping, funny, and started my addiction to Dylan Morgan all over again. I'll never tire of anything that comes out of the Blue Phoenix world.

5 Stars. 

 "The words wash onto the page, the way the nearby waves dump shells and seaweed on the beach. A song about summer, freedom from the past. And a girl."
