REVIEW - Allegra's Song - Lindsey Jayne

Title - Allegra's Song

Author - Lindsey Jayne

Synopsis

For twenty-three year old, Allegra Cooke, life is far from typical
When her mother died, she gave up everything – her education, her independence – to make sure her and her dad remained above water.
She ran his bar, looked after their home and encouraged him to find love once again.
Cue Chase Adams.
Lead singer of band, Tainted Remedy, Chase intrigues her. With his sexy voice, alluring good looks and captivating personality, Allegra soon finds herself falling for this gorgeous, charitable man in every way possible.
He feels the same way, and their hot, passionate relationship flourishes. Allegra finally begins to gain back some of the independence she missed out on.
But it’s not that simple.
It never is. Her independence comes with a price and her new stepmum makes sure it’s a price too high to pay.

What it's all about

Allegra, chase, a whirlwind romance and a wicked, wicked step mother.

What I thought

Allegra is your average girl in her early twenties, working in her dads bar and having fun with her friends. Life's not always been easy, but it is what it is, and she just cracks on with it.
After going to a gig with her best friend Willow, she meets lead singer of tainted remedy "Chase Adams.
He's all handsome
She's all swoon.
They kickstart their awesome romance just as things start crumbling at home for Allegra. One row too far with the step witch Carla (who I hate) leads to Allegra having to leave home and go stay with Willow. She also needs to find a new job.
"Bullshit, she is a gold-digging tramp and i'm sick of you taking her side over mine." Dad tries to say something, his mouth opens, but i'm on a roll. "She hates me, I hate her, and that won't ever change. She has you wrapped so tight around her little finger that i'm surprised you can breath"
So, new job, new home new boyfriend its all looking good for this girl until she goes to collect her belongings and finds Carla in a compromising situation!
Not content with being caught, with a guy who's face I wanted to punch, Carla declares vengeance and sets about trying to destroy Allegra by destroying her dad.
Things escalate from there and its all a bit touch and go for a while, but Karma is a bitch so we get the ending we want :)
"I knew when I first saw you Princess, that you'd be the one to take my breath away"
Its a quick read,  that fits in plenty of sexy time in a short space of time, but it doesn't feel rushed. Sometime felt a bit odd reading the mix of Britishisms instead of Americanisms when it is set in America, but that didn't take away from the story.
