REVIEW - June - Audrey Carlan (WITH SPOILERS)

TITLE : June

AUTHOR : Audrey Carlan

Synopsis:

Politics, phallic statues, and pretty women.

Literally everywhere you look, you see an old man and a gold-digging cling-on wrapped around their wrinkly arms.

Luck had not gone my way when Warren Shipley, one of the nation’s wealthiest men hired me to play arm-candy in order to save face with the other one percenters he did business with. At least that’s what I thought when I arrived in Washington, DC, until I was met by old man Shipley’s debonair and insanely handsome son. Aaron Shipley was notably the youngest senator in the history of politics voted Senator of California at the tender age of thirty-five. Single, beyond rich, and the face of every political magazine around the US. Women everywhere wanted a taste of that power.

Me, I’d always thought politics were boring…boy was I wrong. Democracy had never been more exciting.

My Thoughts:

*contains spoilers*

June like the month was hot. And not in the romantic sense. In the June installment Mia went to DC to be the arm candy of a man old enough to be her grandfather, Warren Shipley.
Mr. Shipley is a man from old money and part of the one percent.

I liked Warren. He needed Mia on his arm to help cut the red tape on his project. Basically he was wanting to take aid into third world countries. He needed access to use certain ports and what not. Totally admirable. And Mia was totally on board with helping such a great cause.

Mia and Wes made up, which made me happy. She got a tattoo to remember all the important men she has met on her journey so far. A dandelion with each man's initial on a pedal, and the quote: trust the journey. You can thank Tai for that one. He got the friendship mark tattooed in honor of her on the side that he had left open for just him. Swoon worthy!

We also deal with a Democratic Senator from California in this book. Aaron Shipley, son of Warren Shipley. At first I was alright with him. He was sexy, and the banter between him and Mia was great in the beginning.

"Me. Well, I get to chase my father’s hot young plaything in private.” His eyebrows quirked before he stepped back and winked."
But that was short lived. Soon we found out that he was a douche canoe. This came to light when Mia woke up with him trying to touch her, without her permission. She had been having a very realistic dream about Wes and his talents, woke up and there was Aaron. Thankfully she got sick and he left.

Kathleen, Warren's housekeeper/bed mate wanted to tell Warren, but Mia didn't deem it necessary.
Mia did her usual match making and helped Warren and Kathleen out by pushing them in the right direction relationship wise. Encouraged Warren to show her off and take her out. Basically romance her, which was super sweet.

The final event she had to attend with Warren was in one of her favorite cities, New York. She had been there briefly with Mason.

Coppery hair glinted off the overhead lights, and I ran my hands from his neck to his shoulder. “Miss me, sweetness?” He kissed my forehead the way a brother does a sister he hadn’t seen in a while.

MAJOR SPOILERS IN NEXT PART

Speaking of Mason, he made an appearance in this book. Him and Rachel were also at this event. I didn't realize how much I had missed Mason until he popped back in. And thank god he had.
Aaron Shipley decided to go all crazy at this event. Long story short he tried to assault Mia, managed to rip her dress. But not to worry, Mason saved the day.

'Mason threw a punch that landed solidly on Aaron’s face. Blood sprayed out of his mouth and across the gray concrete, painting it red.'

Mason and Rachel took complete charge. Got her to the hospital and made sure she was solid physically. While at the hospital Tai called, Rachel answered and told him Mia had been hurt on the job. Next thing we know is Tai is out for blood and in DC. Begging Mia to come home to Hawaii with him so Tina (his mother) could help her get better.
Tai and Mason hit it off. I think it was then that Mia realized how lucky she was. So far on this journey she had made some incredible friends. I think knowing that no matter what, she had not one but multiple men in her life that would do anything for her gave her peace during this experience.

"Never doubt that you’re loved, girlie. Family is what you make it, and I’ll always be there for you."

She had Mason and Rachel drive her to the airport this time, and gave them a proper goodbye. She had Rachel mail off her letter to Warren and Kathleen. Warren had done everything Mia had asked on the Aaron front. No charges were going to be pressed to protect Mia's friends, but he was getting the help he needed.
She learned that she needed to trust the journey and that she could handle whatever is thrown at her. Next stop, Miami, to be the star in a music video.
