OUR REVIEW:
“Healing and falling, 5 stars”

As far as I am tracking I have never read Alexander before. I don’t know what exactly made me click on Because of Liam but I am so glad I did. I love falling in love with a new to me author and that’s exactly what I did. Alexander gave us two very complex characters with strong personalities and wrote the story they both deserved.
I guess some would call Liam a war hero, but to him he was just a corpsman who is now lost. After a year of traveling around he is finally back to the closest thing he’s ever had to a home. He’s reconnecting with his brother and struggling to find his footing. Then there’s River who is very much like a river in his life. He never knows what to expect from her because she’s slightly wild and out of control. She has no filter and is constantly keeps him on his toes. What if all that banter turns into something more?
River doesn’t know what to do with Liam. When she tries to be nice he becomes prickly which puts her on edge and then end up going at it. Then they take down their walls and let the other one see them without all the walls they keep up. Will Liam be able to handle her truths that eve she doesn’t fully understand?
Good gravy did I love these two. They are both strong characters on their own, but together they just become stronger. They literally make each other better. I didn’t see the twists that came coming and at times my heart hurt for them as individuals. But Because of Liam proves that with the right person by your side you can overcome anything. Dive in and fall in love with these two.

I adored reading this book! I want more of Liam! More Logan! More anyone by Erica Alexander! This is the second book in the series. I highly recommend starting with Because of Logan, which is a great read in itself, but also lends some great backstory (those texts Logan sends his brother Liam...forever unanswered), so while this is a standalone; it's better as a series.

This is an exceptionally well written book where the characters conquer their past and love heals lots of wounds. “The funny thing about life-and I don't mean ha ha funny-is that those pivotal moments, the moments that change everything in an instant never give you a warning. They hit you with the force of a CAT5 hurricane and most of the time, there's no heads-up.” The whole book is written with a great main thread, but with some fantastic details, amazing dialogue and charismatic characters.

River Devereaux is a loud, wild child we met in the first book, twin to the more bookish Skye. She's bold, she's brash, she's a party girl, seemingly very confident in her skin; I honestly want to channel more River in my own life. But despite the outward poise and bluster, she's hiding an inner hurt. Liam Cole is Logan's younger brother who spent the last few years in the Marines. He's got a pretty jaded look at life from not only his time in the military but a difficult childhood, and needs a bit of softness. Both are fascinating characters that I fell in love with.

“With each kiss, I let go. With each kiss, I forgive. With each kiss, I am myself again.” River and Liam start off on the wrong foot, but their differences and standoff, borderline childish behavior turn into something different. Love and hate are closely related emotions, and their differences work in their favor to make a passionate relationship.

I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of this book after reading the first. I was not disappointed. I knew after reading Logan's story and those texts he sent his brother that I needed to read Liam's story. There was just enough details combined with a few mysteries about both characters that keep you reading long into the night. Without giving it away, the incident that changes River is very well written and done with respect and dignity. And Liam's struggles in coming home from his service seem well done as well...thank you to all who serve and may you all have someone who loves you so dearly.

I loved how I felt after reading this book; full of hope, heart, love, anguish, despair, and visions of very nice looking young men. I'm off to see what else Ms. Alexander has written, and hope there's more studly men like Liam and fun women like River to read.

“Don't be one of the broken dreamers. Collect your pieces, pull yourself together. You don't need anyone's approval or permission to be yourself and live your life to your full potential, to live the life of your choosing, to live your life the way it was intended to be lived.”

AUTHOR BIO

Erica Alexander has been a storyteller her entire life. If she’s not writing stories, she’s daydreaming them. Which has gotten her in trouble once or twice. She has an inclination to use sarcasm and she can make anything that comes out of her mouth, sound dirty.
It’s a gift.

When Erica is not writing, reading or daydreaming new stories, she enjoys baking, looking up pictures of hot guys on Pinterest (for research of course) and commiserating with friends over their mutual hatred of laundry.

Erica’s life goals are: to make sure her family is happy and healthy, bring to life all the stories in her head, visit Australia and jump off a plane. Preferably with a parachute.

Erica has degrees in Communications and Computer Science and she loves history, all things Native American, and anything that’s off the beaten path and weird.
