From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Susan Stoker comes a new story in her Delta Force Heroes series…
After years of estrangement, Mercedes Laughlin has finally reconciled with her older brother. It should be the happiest time of her life, getting to know Truck and his new wife…and it would be, if an ex wasn’t causing her trouble. Add in Truck’s boss, Colonel Colton Robinson, an amazingly distracting man whom she met under embarrassing circumstances, and Macie’s got a bit more on her plate than she can handle.
From the moment they met, Colt was fascinated by Macie, and helping her through an anxiety attack at her brother’s wedding didn’t diminish the appeal. He’d do his best to sweep her off her feet, if not for a little voice telling him to tread lightly—until a frantic phone call changes the plan. Macie’s being targeted, and Colt’s determined to keep her safe while he and her brother eliminate the threat.
Colt isn’t about to let his friend lose his sister again so soon…or miss his own chance at a happy ending with Macie before they’ve barely had a beginning.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

He sat Macie gently on the counter in her bathroom. He leaned close and placed his hands on the cool
tiles next to her hips and waited for her to open her eyes. It took several moments, but when she finally
brought her beautiful brown eyes up to his, he wasn’t prepared for the jolt of electricity he felt.
Bringing one hand to her cheek, he was encouraged when she tilted her head and rested it on his palm.
“You okay?” he asked softly.
She nodded and said, “No.”
He smiled at the contradiction. But he had a feeling she was being completely honest. “Where is your
first-aid stuff?”
She lifted her head and gestured to a cabinet behind him.
Colt got to work getting the Band-Aids and hydrogen peroxide ready. When he turned around again, he
had to take a deep breath. He’d purposely kept his mind off the fact that she was wearing only a tank
top and a pair of short-shorts. But she’d dropped the blanket, and he couldn’t stop his eyes from
tracking from her feet up her long legs to her curvy thighs. Her belly wasn’t flat, but she wasn’t
overweight either. And her tits were lush and full. Even as he stared at her, he saw her nipples tighten
under the cotton.
He finally looked up and saw she was examining him just as openly. Waiting until her gaze had traveled
the length of his body, he finally said, “Let’s get you cleaned up so we can get out of here.”
She blushed when she looked up at him, but nodded.
Turning his thoughts away from how sexy he found her—but loving that she seemed to be just as
interested in checking him out as he was her—Colt concentrated on cleaning the scrapes on her body.
He put the bottle down on the counter and picked up one of her hands. The palm was scraped and red,
and he hated knowing it was because she’d leapt out her fucking window into a tree. He hated every
single bruise and mark on her smooth skin. Throughout his ministrations, she didn’t cry and didn’t make
a sound. He knew he had to be hurting her, but she was stoic and calm as he tended to her wounds.
When he was finally satisfied that he’d cleaned the worst of her scratches, he helped her stand and
wrapped the blanket back around her shoulders. “You need help packing?”
She considered his offer for a second, then shook her head. “How long will I be staying with you?”
Forever was on the tip of his tongue, but he held back the word, knowing it would stress her out…and
that it was crazy.

Erin's Review

Such a fun look at our beloved Delta Team by Susan Stroker.  I've read a few of the Delta Team books, and many of her other books.  This quick read can be read as a standalone, with the reader being filled in neatly by the author on the most relevant back story.  Of course, it does make a more complete and enjoyable world if you've read the whole series, but I haven't read the series in order or completion and still.enjoyed and followed this book easily.
The book’s plot follows the younger sister of one of the Delta Team, and the Colonel of Delta Team.  So there are dynamics at play with the power differences there, as well as a significant age gap. Through it all we find that the overall idea is that there is a right person, at the right time, for everyone.  It’s a heartwarming and feel good story!

Colonel Colton Hurt first meets Macie after her brother’s wedding.  This scene is in a previous book, but is summarized nicely in this one.  He helps her through a panic attack and is very attracted to her. Macie is thankful to the man who helps her navigate the panic attack and wants to keep in contact.  But fate steps in to keep them apart. It was fun to get to know the Colonel as a person, not just the man in charge. And Macie deals with her anxiety in amazing ways to be a advocate for herself, and work within her comfort zone.  How those two interacted and built each other up and were kind, good people gives me hope for all humanity!

I loved how you could tell the two had feelings and we're attracted to each other, but didn't immediately jump into sex.  They waited until they had worked through some of their issues, established trust, and put time and effort into their relationship.  So when they do take the next step, they have a solid base to make a crazy hot sex life. Their heat is amazing and it makes for some erotic reading.

I loved reading this novella.  It was over too soon. The author did a great job of adding in just enough details from past books so the reader isn’t left confused so the book can be read alone, but also in weaving the past characters so well into the new story to create an intricate web of family and friends you wish you were part of.  One thing I love about this author’s writing is that despite having books full of alpha, muscle bound, hot shot military men...they are always respectful and kind. They may tease their brothers-in-arms, but they are good citizens of the world. And the women they inevitably fall in love with are all strong in their own unique and personal way.

I really liked how this book tackled one aspect of mental health.  I read it as an outsider with no anxiety issues like Macie, but it felt respectful and well written.  All of Ms. Stroker’s books are well written, and this was no different. There was the perfect balance of mystery, relationship building, past characters, foreshadowing, world building, sexy military men and good friendships.

  1. It's possible to also utilize food grade hydrogen peroxide in your ear to eliminate ear wax and to find rid of ear infections. It can be difficult to find food grade hydrogen peroxide in a shop, and even when I do, I find it's way less costly on AMAZON. Get more information about hydrogen peroxide on this site.
