Review:

I am currently sitting here wondering what in the heck I just read, and I mean that in a positive way. Peace, Love, and Resistance came onto my radar thanks to one of my favorite authors. She recommended this story so I jumped at the chance to review it, and I’m glad I did. I don’t remember the last time a book made me question the way I look at things. 

The Heroine Tristan is an activist, but even the word activist doesn't do her justice. She is all about opening people's eyes and getting them to see the bigger picture in life. Tristan is the most passionate heroine I've read in ages. Ranging from what we put into our bodies, to what the media sets us out to believe, be it true or false. There were times I thought she was a little too hardcore but I still got it.

Tobias starts out as this angry kid but definitely grows into himself. With Tristan’s help he opens his eyes and lets go of the anger he carries towards his family. The love connection is out of this world. Ty would do anything for Tristan and her son. I think my favorite part was that he loved her son just as much as he loved her.

I would definitely recommend Peace, Love, and Resistance to someone with an open mind. You can go from healing crystals, conspiracy theories, to something called twin flames. Tristan and Ty don’t have it easy and they struggle along the way, but I think the outcome was worth it.

I cannot wait to read more from Jettie Woodruff.

REVIEW - Operation Sex Kitten - Tess Summers

Review:

Operation Sex Kitten was an ok book. The plot was promising and intrigued me from the beginning. Unfortunately, the lack of substance in the book really made it hard for me to give this book 5 stars. While I like the way the author wrote the characters and book, it just needed a little bit more to really be an amazing book.

The plot of this book was interesting. I like when the female of the book is inexperienced and paired up with a much more experienced partner. It leads to good scenes and confidence boosters for all of us women. When we can read about someone not being experienced but blowing a man’s mind, it really makes us think maybe we are not as bad as we seem either. This plot is a good one and with some fine tuning this book can be great.

The characters are written pretty well. I liked both main characters. I also liked the chemistry they had together. There is a bit of an age difference, but that didn’t affect my opinion of this book. These two characters had a lot of issues they had to work out for themselves. I think this led to some very interesting scenes.

The heat in this book was good as well. I actually really enjoyed some of it. The problem I had was there was too many sex scenes. I like reading about characters being intimate, but there comes a point in which it is just too much. I expect little story and lots of sex from erotica’s, which is why I tend to avoid them. I just expected more from this book.

The writing style was where I had most of my issues. I liked the plot and the substance between sex scenes were good for the most part. Near the end I felt things were rushed a bit too much. I think this book could’ve either been stretched into a second book, or possibly cut down some of the sex scenes and add more content to make the story more fluid. I just felt that the sex was the meat of novel while the story was lost with the broccoli no one really likes to eat. I am here to tell you I wanted more Broccoli! I needed more story to really build the connection I look for in stories. I feel that if this was revised and the sex scenes were less and more content to the story, this could be a best seller.

In conclusion, I enjoyed the plot of this story, but felt it lacked a real story. I would not be able to recommend this book to my friends as I don’t feel it is yet complete. While I did enjoy the plot and the characters, I just felt I needed more from the author. Unfortunately I can only give this book 3 stars.

Our Review

I read it, and then I had to take a time out. 

I read it in one sitting, maybe that was a mistake, but I couldn't put it down, so I powered through. And then it was over and I didn't know what to do. I didn't know where to put myself, I wasn't sure who or what I was in that moment. I was just a bit numb. A bit lost. A bit confused but more than anything, eager for more. I've had time now, to compose myself but that need for more hasn't waned. I need Hundreds more than I need my next meal. Dollars exceeded all my expectations. Pepper winters has me in awe.

To paraphrase The Great Julia Roberts."I'm just a girl, sitting in front of a laptop, telling an author I love her."

Pepper Winters, I love you. You and your incredible (warped, incredulous & despicable) mind.

Dollars carries on right where Pennies left off, with Elder cradling a bleeding plim and driving her off into yet another unknown and potentially unwanted world, We witness her begin the long slow process of recovering mentally & physically and possibly the start of the end of him.

Their journey is both the physical and emotional sense, is rocky, but I was totally there with them every step of the way. I'm totally with Tasmin and totally behind Plim and Elder??? WHO IS ELDER??? 

"I ceased to be Alriks. And became Elders instead."

Arrgghhhh. I feel things!!

I don't really know how to define this book, I mean its not romantic in the least and yet I have all these romanticised feelings about it and its staying on my romance shelf, but I can't explain why. Its dark and disturbing and makes me question my mental faculties  for enjoying it but I'm not ashamed, I'll shout it from the roof tops. There drama, death and all out destruction, this is thrilling but not a thriller. It makes no sense, but all kinds of sense at the same time.

This book. This series. It's undefinable. 

"Where were you. Where were you. Where were you?"

Yeah Plim, I'd like to know that too!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to head to confession, or drink something strong. I'm not sure which.

REVIEW

More than Friends is the follow-up to Just Friends by Monica Murphy. I was a little worried to read this book because Just Friends was a little angsty for me. At points I wanted to strangle the main character. This book was much better than the first. More than Friends is in the same series, but follows a different main character. This is what prompted me to go ahead and read it and I was happy with the result.

The plot of More than Friends is to follow up from the first book. This book follows Amanda and Tuttle/Jordan and their interactions with each other. While we still get updates from the main characters in the first book, this book really dives into Amanda and her dysfunctional relationship with Jordan. I liked being able to see things from her point of view. I already liked her as a secondary character in this first book, but I feel this book really let her shine and made me love her even more.

The characters are developed wonderfully. I loved getting inside Amanda’s head. She is a character I can really see myself being friends with. I love her no nonsense attitude and her feisty side. I also love that she really calls people out and tells the truth. 

Then we have Jordan. I want to love Jordan, but he was really getting on my nerves in this book. I wanted to smack him a couple of times for being so stupid. Jordan is developed as well in this book. He has his own stuff going on so I can see why he is so temperamental with Amanda. I am really glad she didn’t let him walk all over her though. I loved reading about these two.

The writing style in this book is pretty good. This book is told from dual point of views. I will admit I was surprised by the thoughts Amanda had. She puts out such a strong and independent woman vibe that I didn’t realize she had so many insecurities. It was eye opening to think that some people keep their negative thoughts hidden inside. Jordan was surprising as well. Since we were reading from his point of view we got to know him a bit better. I love being able to see how he felt about Amanda and how his parents actions really affected him.

I cannot forget to mention the heat. While this story follows teenagers, there is no lack of heat in this book. This book did an amazing job of slowly introducing these characters into more intimate situations. I loved that while these character had a lot of intimate moments, it did not feel like these moments overshadowed the whole book. It really felt realistic.

In conclusion, this was a really good book. This book did end on a cliffhanger, but I didn’t mind. I was gobbling this book up and cannot wait to read how Amanda and Jordan’s story ends. I would recommend this book to a friend. Amazing read.

Review:

Blue is an amazing and wonderful novel. I loved every minute of it. This book has everything that I could ever ask for in a book! Romance, mystery, and heartbreak, it has it all! If you are looking for a great novel to sink your teeth into that is guaranteed to leave you with a book hangover, this is the book for you.

Blue has a refreshing plot. It isn’t just boy meets girl. It is way different than that. I absolutely love how the book starts. We find out what is going on with one of the main characters right away. It is a flashback in time from where the novel actually begins. The mysterious Blue offers the reader that bit of mystery that they crave to keep them wanting more. It makes me ask myself “who is this guy and what is his story?”

The characters in Blue are wonderfully developed. Phoebe is a feisty character that I think can be a role model for girls. She has been dealt a crappy hand, but we get to see what she does with the hand, which is great. I love how strong she is. Blue is a unique character. We don’t really find out much about him at first. I love the onion technique used in revealing who Blue is and why he acts the way he does.

There is a lot of heat in this book. These two characters have heat that can melt the pages off a book. While the steamy scenes are written wonderfully, I am delightfully happy that they are not in excess. I love that the author focused more on the content of the book rather than throwing extra sex scenes in to distract from the main story.

I loved the writing style from this author. She used opposing point of views to tell this story. I loved seeing Phoebe from Blues point of view. I feel Phoebe had a low view of herself due to her situation, and it was wonderful to see Blue see her in a different light. It shows how perception is everything. I also loved how the author made this story feel authentic and real. I really felt like this could have been a true story happening. The author pulled out all the stops and made sure to give readers a book worth crying over!

In conclusion, this is a wonderful book that I give 5 stars hands down. This is a book I can see myself reading way more than once and falling in love with the characters over and over again. Blue is a wonderful book boyfriend to have while Phoebe has the personality every girl should strive for. I would recommend this book to my friends and plan to do so very soon. I cannot wait to read more from this author and fall in love with other worlds she has created.

REVIEW - Fling by Jana Aston

Review:

Fling is a nice and quick short read with a lot of good content. I really liked this novella and was surprised to learn it was part of a series. This short read opened my eyes to a new author I had never heard of. Fling is about a woman who has secretly pined away for a guy, but never really thought she had a chance. I feel like this story could be a fantasy world for many of us. I really liked how the story is relatable.

The plot of the story is one that I can really believe in. As I said in the opening paragraph, it is girl wants guy, but thinks she’s out of his league. One unpredictable situation leads to another and they start a brief fling. The question is, will it remain a fling or turn into more? To answer that you’ll need to go read the book yourself!

The characters in this book are developed a bit. Since it is a novella they do not have much time to develop majorly, but I felt the development was organic to the story so I approve of it. Sandra is a quiet woman who just needs someone to show her how to let loose. Gabe is a top notch executive who is known for his whoring ways. Sandra doesn’t think Gabe could ever be interested in her while Gabe feels the same about Sandra. This makes it interesting to watch these two interact.

The heat in this book is great. There are plenty of scenes to make your panties wet ladies. I love how Sandra knows the status quo and lets Gabe lead things. He also releases a feisty side to her which adds depth to the characters and story. The heat these two have together shows that they have chemistry that they both have been denying. I loved this about this story.

The writing style of this novella is simple. It is told from dual point of views. It also includes characters that I can only assume have been the main subjects of the first two books in this series. I really liked the minor characters and I loved how the author was able to include them, without them overshadowing the whole story. The author wrote in a way that it felt like the reader was nibbling for more information. I loved this technique.

Overall, I really loved this novella. While it was short and sweet, it still had the meat to draw readers in. I loved these characters and hope to see more of them in the future. Sandra especially was intriguing to me. I would recommend this novella to a friend and plan to go read other books in this series. This was a great new author find for me.

Review:

Degrees of Distortion is not your typical everyday romance novel per se, man and woman falling in love and living happily ever after. This book was dark, suspenseful and had me on my feet (so to speak) with every page. It was a page turner! 

The main character Lexie whose life basically ended when her boyfriend Alex, died. Alex gave her blue nail polish and that's all that she has left and she goes to a town named Sugar Hill to retrace his steps. Well this trips turns into more than that, and brings her mother's past back home with her, as she was followed. Her mom tells her to go straight away and take the bag with her. There's a note, key and phone for her mother to contact her. So when she goes to this town her neighbor, Jackson is very intimidating but is also hot. Lexie and Jackson's chemistry in this book is intense. 

I really liked both Lexie and Jackson. Lexie has been through alot, and is now dealing with her mother's past and reading about the memories her and Alex had.  And my oh my Jackson, who is very sexy, he is a protector, and isn't afraid to kill. There is one character that I didn't like but this book wouldn't be suspenseful if they weren't in it.

Degrees of Distortion by Aimee McNeil was really intriguing to read. It's the first book I've read by McNeil and it wont be the last. It had my attention from the beginning but it was confusing at times with the different point of views. The writing was very detailed and I liked how she put memories in the stories, I felt they were used properly.    

This does leave the reader wondering what's going to happen, especially with that cliffhanger - Ahhh, not a big fan of those. Aimee McNeil I need book 2!! 

This book had so many feels while reading it. From sadness to smiling, to what the heck?, to I want to punch him in the throat, to omg it ended; I need to know more!!  So if you like dark romance I'd highly recommend giving this book a read! 

Parts of the story I liked:

"Why did you pick blue? Because it's called Knockout, and that's how I feel every time I look at you -completely knocked out."

"You're like an open book: you're scared of me. Your eyes give it away. You swallow a lot, which indicates you are uncomfortable. The color of your skin and the way you keep licking your lips tell me you are also attracted to me."
