OUR REVIEW
A different kind of romance. Marry Me was a different kind of romance that just kind of missed its mark for me. I liked that it was based of the song Marry Me by Thomas Rhett. That is one of my favorite songs, so that appealed to me. With that being said, there were things about this book that I didn’t really care for. This book is a stand-alone book.
The plot of this book was good. I liked the idea of two people being a part of each other’s lives for a long time and having feelings for each other. I like the thought that those feelings would not be expressed and one day they wake up realizing it was too late. The author did a good job of really making this point be known in the book. I liked that it made me thing about things I have left unsaid.
Characters. Yeah them? I just couldn’t with. Lets start with the positives. I liked that Lauren followed her heart. She stood up for what she wanted, even if it was a little late in my opinion. With that being said, I didn’t care for how she treated her ex. She was kind of a jerk to him when he did nothing to deserve it. Sam was a good character. I liked him well enough. He was strong yet vulnerable. I liked that about him. I liked that he was considerate as well. He was always thinking about Lauren and her feelings.
The heat in this book was good. I would expect nothing less after harboring feelings for each other for most of their lives. I liked the chemistry between the two. I liked that they didn’t rush into anything right after Lauren made that huge decision in her life. I think had they rushed, it would have felt forced.
The writing style of the book is ok. The pace is steady. I liked the dual point of view. With that being said, the first like thirty percent of the book is literally just the video for Marry Me by Thomas Rhett. It is not necessarily a bad thing, but for me it was a real downer. I have seen the video so often that I felt I didn’t even need to read the book because I knew what was going to happen. I did like that the author expanded on it though.
Overall, this was a good book. I only gave it three stars because I didn’t really connect with the characters and I felt like it wasn’t new and original for me. I wouldn’t recommend this book to others, but only because I didn’t really enjoy the book myself. I think if you haven’t seen the video to the song, that you would really enjoy this book. For me, personally, it missed its mark
