Review - Falling Sky (Blue Phoenix #2) - Lisa Swallow

Phew!! Here we are....Book two. An eagerly awaited sequel that was badly needed, to put straight the 100's of questions I had buzzing around from the end of Summer Sky. Anyone who has read Summer Sky knows how it ends, and how important it is to get hold of Falling Sky and find out what happened.
Summer Sky started Dylan and Sky's story. They crash into each other literally and find out just how hard it is to walk away. Through all the ups and downs they experience along the way, you can feel the building affection they have for each other, and just how strong it becomes. Yet, not all want Dylan and Sky to have their Happy Ever After. Sins of the past are dragged up and rehashed to cause some rifts between them. That is exactly how Summer Sky was left. A secret was confessed by someone and left Sky questioning Dylan.
Here we are in Falling Sky and it's four months later. Four months for Dylan and Sky to get on with their lives as they were before they met. They are both trying to survive and forget about each other, but that's never going to happen.

"Did it work?" I ask harshly, "Do you feel nothing?"
"Until I saw you again, then everything flooded in. I ache to have you back, Sky."
I'm not going to give any details, or spoilers away. It was quite a shocking and tense ending to Summer Sky and I really don't want to spoil the story by giving anything away.
I can only go on to say just how much I loved this conclusion to Sky and Dylan's story. Right from the start, I was transported straight back into their story. It hadn't felt like I had to wait at all. The uncertainty and confusion that Sky felt before had just multiplied and morphed into a sadness at not knowing anything for sure. I just felt so sad for both of them. They needed each other yet tried to move on, it didn't work. They obviously had something too strong to walk away from. Luckily we don't have to wait too much longer for explanations, that I was desperate to hear. I'm pretty sure Sky wanted to know too. ;)
It would seem this book is showing just how much the powers that be, want nothing more that to watch Dylan and Sky struggle, Everybody and everything conspiring against them. There is definitely not a dull moment. It was actually quite surprising just how many intense scenes there are in this part. So much going on at all times. Every time I composed myself after sitting with my mouth gaping open, or wiping more leakages from my eyes. I would then be thrown by the seat of my pants straight into another one. It was fantastic, I felt like an emotional mess though.
There was some really important scenes in this book that show another side to Jem. I always thought in Summer Sky just how much Jem was a typical, naughty, bad boy. A rock star with the most extreme edge. Yet, I learnt in this book so much more about Jem. It had me feeling so bad for him, like I wanted to give him a huge hug and lock him away for a while till he sorted himself out. (Not at all freaky, I know) It's made me so excited to read his story. I want to know more about the tormented guitarist, although he won't take my full attention from Dylan. Nobody does brooding like Dylan, but we learn he has his reasons too. The best part about a story that spans more than one book, is being able to learn so much more about the characters. We learn all about Dylan and Sky. Taking journeys into their past, seeing a side of Dylan we don't expect to see.

I choke back a laugh. "Dylan, were you a....?"
"Choirboy, yes" He's frowning but biting back a smile too.
He pokes me in the ribs. "Not exactly unusual for a Welsh boy who likes singing, huh?"
"No, I guess not. You looked adorable."
"Gah!" Dylan rolls his eyes.
It feels sad to come to the end of Dylan and Sky's journey. Yet, I loved every minute of it. From the searching for seashells in the sand, to snuggling on the sofa. Every moment was either, holding my breath - waiting to exhale or cheesy smiling at the perfectness of the moment. It may be the end for Dylan and Sky's story, but it is just the beginning for the rest of the Blue Phoenix boys and I'm stupidly excited! A 5* perfect sequel to a love story that began within a beautiful bubble by the sea.

Whats been happening!

Hey there! :)
Well, it's been a crazy, busy time for me since the I made the blog a visible/search-able/published on line blog. (Yes, I know that lacked some sense and use of the English lang. :-/ )
Looking back, it's been almost 2 months and it's been full on for most of that time.
Yet, I have loved every minute of it. Some things are new, some things are unfinished or not even started. Some things have progressed slowly over that time, but I have loved every minute of it.
I do feel that some days I am actually just talking to myself (nothing unusual there) and nobody has seen a single post I have put up. Then one day someone will comment about something I have posted or share it and I know it was worth while feeling like a crazy person.
Facebook and Twitter accounts tick on by. I keep them updated with my ramblings, mostly to myself. ;) but I love doing it and one day it may get crazy busy and I'll look back on the days of talking to myself and laugh.
The absolute best thing about all this, is meeting new people and Authors. I have been asked to read some amazing books from some Authors who are rising up in popularity, and I am so grateful for these opportunities. I have found some of my favorite books through interaction with Authors, that have come via Facebook or my Blog. So I know, that even if it seems like nobody is reading what I post. They are somewhere! :)
New projects:
Besides the blog, the Facebook page, Twitter and anything else that needs updating daily with Louise rambles. I also have started a Facebook Fan Page for a fictional Rock Band. Which a series of books is centered around. As you may have already guessed I'm a huge fan of Author Lisa Swallow, and back her wherever and however possible. (Pre-Restraining order bahaha *ahem*) Anyway, I decided her 'boys' needed a little showing off and they really have a lot to say, and numerous albeit sometimes odd pictures to show about. So that's where the fan page has come about. Can i get a little pimp in, of course I can. ;)

Blue Phoenix Page

So if you love Lisa Swallows books, take a look at the above page. It's only a baby page but it's going to be awesome!!
Right so on that note, I actually have quite a few things to get done. So I'm going to over and out. If your reading this post, please continue to follow my ramblings! Or come see me on Facebook, I don't bite. Much ;)
Bye. Lou. xxx

Review - Logan Lost - Emma L. Smith

*I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review*

Logan Lost is one of those books that will always stick with me. When I started to read this, I had no idea of what I was reading. I hadn't even read a synopsis, kind of like going in blind. No genre, No hints. Nothing. Not, that it mattered. I have loved every single one of Author Emma L. Smith's books. I knew I would love this. The thing about her books that hooks me is, you never know what your going to get. Seriously, you could start on what may seem like a regular romance and pow! In comes something that blows everything off course and changes all rules. Logan Lost was the ultimate example of this style.
Lily Logan is an extremely successful woman. Worked hard and lives for her career. She is confident and takes no cr** off anyone. She doesn't need a man and doesn't want one. She is control and shows it right from the start.
It doesn't take long to realise why Lily is now like this. We are taken on a journey that time travels between the present and clips of the past. To show Lily's life and what takes place from her teen years to now.
To say that what has happened to Lily over the years was brutal, may not even cover it. The things that she has endured and experienced are extreme but are what has made her who she is.
I couldn't make my mind up about Lily, to start with I thought she was cold and hard. Yet reading on, I found that she is this way as that is how she was made. Also, I started to admire her strength, and the face that she puts on top on everything. When underneath she is obviously torn and drawn to something that seems beyond her control.
I'm not going to give anything away from this book. I didn't get any clues or ideas and I think it's enjoyed best going in that way. Any spoilers would ruin the effect it has on you.
As always with Emma's books, the writing style is addictive. The picture painted from her words is so clear, you feel sucked into the story. It's brutal and nothing is ever held back. But that is exactly the way I love it.
This isn't a classic love story and it would be best to acknowledge that fact before starting. The emotions and feelings that the characters have towards each other, are overwhelming and sometimes it can lull you into thinking and wanting it to turn into a conventional romance. Although saying that, the ending of this book is still 100% satisfying and leaves you feeling content. At least I was. :)
A book full of colourful characters. From Lily, to her 2 troubled brothers Tom and Joe, and Eliot the man trying to get to know Lily better. Every character has a story to tell and troubles they hide, that torment them.
I suppose I should point out that there is a great deal of sensitive subject matter in this book. Some of it did surprise me but it showed perfectly just how extreme the situations were and to what extent some characters would go.
If your reading this review then you have already read the synopsis, in which case you will know this is a dark romance of sorts and some parts of this book can be quite extreme. Most of you are here because that is the sort of books you love. In which case, you must read this!! You will love it. If your not, perhaps not your cup of tea? ;) I do love books that make my head & heart hurt and make me think a great deal. This was perfect, and I was still sat thinking about it for a great deal of time when it finished. If it leaves a lasting impression then it must be good!! Just be prepared, this isn't Gone with the Wind. Unless there is a naughty, dark version I'm not aware of?? ;)

Again, I am so glad I came across Emma L.Smith's books. Her shock & wow factor continually keep me engrossed and entertained. An Addictive, dark and tormented read. 5 Stars!!!

About the Author

I'm interested in the way literature can help us explore aspects of the human condition - particularly suffering, sex, love, faith, and redemption. My favourite stories are those in which a character takes a journey, either a physical journey to a new and exciting place, or a personal journey in which he or she learns something about himself/herself.

I'm also interested in how aesthetic elements such as art, architecture, and music can be used to tell a story or to illuminate the traits of a particular character. In my writing, I combine all of these elements with the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of goodness.

I try to use my platform as an author to raise awareness about the following charities: Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation, WorldVision, Alex's Lemonade Stand, and Covenant House. For more information, see my Twitter account.

Sunshine Trilogy - Nikki Rae - Series Spotlight

I had the absolute pleasure of being given all 3 books in the Sunshine Trilogy by Nikki Rae for review.
Although I had to take a break between the first and second book, I was hooked and fell straight in to the flow of the story. Picking it all back up easily and read through books two and three straight through.
Although I have reviewed each book individually, I wanted to give a brief round up of all three books in the trilogy with all the links to buy and read reviews etc.
I loved this paranormal trilogy. I find it really hard to find good paranormal books these days. There is only so many topics that can be tapped in to that haven't already been done a million times over. Those who manage to write a new paranormal with their own unique twist grab my attention and awe immediately.
That is exactly what I found with the Sunshine trilogy. There is so many elements to this series that are new and unique because of the way they have been approached and written. Although sometimes dark and overwhelmingly emotional, there is a good feel to it all. Like a 'meant to be' feel. Which I know sounds corny, but it's a feeling I got from all 3 books. The hideous and horrid things that happen tend to be emotionally shattering yet we get the impression it's all part of a bigger picture. Which ultimately leaves a feel good vibe to it all.
So after I have finished all three books I'm left with a feeling of, What do i read now?, What happened years down the line for all the characters? If I'm still left wondering about the book and the characters then it's left an impression on me, which is annoying but a very good sign. :)
So, what happens after the Sunshine Trilogy for Author Nikki Rae? Good Question. I will need to find out. ;)
Again, I can't explain just how much I recommend this book. For paranormal lovers or just people wanting something a bit different, new and full of emotion and action.

A 5 star series.

Review - Sun Damage (Sunshine #3) - Nikki Rae

**I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review**

WOW! Ok, so still a little shell shocked. That was an amazing ending to an incredible trilogy. I didn't want it to end.
So I really, really don't want this book to contain spoilers, I feel quite strongly about them. The trouble is, everything I want to say is in some way going to give something away and spoil what has to be read for ones self. So this is going to be a really easy yet really hard review to write.
The overall feel to this final part in the Sunshine series, is somewhat darker and intense. It starts with the continuation of an event that happened at the end of book 2. It then goes on to show Sophie and her way of coping and handling this. Whilst all this happens, the band are asked to go on tour. Which is a fantastic opportunity but also so difficult for so many reasons.
I did feel like there was quite an emotional feel to this book, Sophie has never had it easy in any of the books. Yet in this final part when you think she is in a position to come out of everything stronger and better for it, she still has to struggle so hard and has to deal with so many new revelations.
Myles is always a constant that is reassuring. He sticks by Sophie and proves to be even more addicting a character than ever.
I had a lot of love for Jade in this book. He comes through so much and is such a strong character for it. All that he has to deal with as well as anyone.
Again, quite a few surprises and shocks along the way. The way in which it still manages to blow me away each time as I don't see it coming is fantastic. I always try to guess whats coming in books and never guess throughout these ones. They are so clever and well written.
The ending. Well, again wow! Fantastic ending which I'm 100% happy with considering the numerous ways it could of gone. Yet, I do feel like there is something there with potential for more, maybe?? Or am I just hoping? lol
Fantastic ending to an well written and captivating beyond belief trilogy. 5 stars!

Review - Sun Poisoned (Sunshine #2) Nikki Rae

**I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review**

I read the first book in this series about a month ago and wasn't able to go straight on to this one. It's always kind of hard to pick up where you left off when you go on to the second or subsequent books in a series. I had no problem falling straight back in to the story and picking everything back up with Sun Poisoned. The gang are now in New York and living in an apartment block that is paid for by Midnight the club where they now get to live their dream, performing in their band. Everything seems to finally be coming together for Sophie. Boo and Trey, her best friends are with her. Plus Miles her boyfriend with a difference is also there with them. Of course the difference we learn in book 1 is that he is a Vampire. Not a sparkling, type. Far more discreet and understated. Yet holding so much power and mysterious. I loved that.
So were now seeing Sophie in her element, getting to perform and having her own bit of freedom. It's a new lifestyle here at Midnight and we get to see some of the new people Sophie meets from the mysterious and shy Ava and the total opposite Manny, lead singer of one of the biggest bands that play at Midnight. The majority of Sun Poisoned shows how Sophie's life has changed and the people she meets in her new life. She still has a few nightmares over Michael, the old and dangerous vampire from Sunshine. Yet Myles is always there to help Sophie relax and fills her in one some more information from his past, and others pasts.
About half way through, the book takes a big shocker. A huge event happens which i can't even hint at, but I will say. I had the whole open mouth and running eyes thing going on again. From there on in, the book is on a far more faster pace and emotional ride. All the intense and graphic details were really hard hitting. Without saying anything at all, which is really hard. All I can say, is that everything that takes place from there on in, is so amazingly well done. It was beautifully written in a raw and detailed way. It was hard not to feel exactly what was going on with the characters, the words painted such a clear and vivid picture.
Well, after such an intense and crazily, addictive final part I was so relieved I had the final book to start reading straight away. I absolutely 'needed' to continue reading and was desperate to find out what lies ahead for Sophie. I'm already half way through the final book and I'm already sucked in. So thought it best to do this review before I forget which book is which. ;)
Loved this second part in the Sunshine series.

Review - Kiss Me Goodbye (Inked Brotherhood #0.5) - Jo Raven

Kiss Me Goodbye

This was a great prequel! I had the pleasure of reading an ARC of Asher and loved it. This prequel shows Asher and Audrey when they were 14, and the events that took place that changed their friendship forever. Although quite short, this chapter in their life was an important one and shows how 2 inseparable childhood friends lost each other and some of their innocence so many years ago. This paves the way for Asher the first, full length book in the Inked Brotherhood series.
Just like Asher, it is written well and shows the intensity between the two main characters. Even though they are 14. They did at times sound more like 17, but all the characters in this book are later shown to have some rough times when younger and I think it has forced them to grow up a bit quicker. Which we find out as each book tells their tales.
I really felt for both Audrey and Asher and it mad me want to read Asher again.

Review - Her Invitation - Felicity Pickles

This novella is one of my favorite little gem finds. I was asked to take a look at Her Invitation and once i started it, i easily felt glued to every word.
It's a short and sweet novella but it packs a punch.
Although i read book 2 first, I was told it was a standalone and to be honest it was perfectly easy to get absorbed into the story. There is obviously comments about what happened in book 1, but as that is a novella as well i didn't feel i had missed out on a huge chunk of the story.
It did remind me of some of the stories i used to read years ago, not in a bad way. It was just the short, naughty, tales that i used to come across in Black Lace (I think) style books. Naughty and risqué but with a grown up feel. I liked how it showed some of the characters as being upper class but with this hidden side to them. The naughty perversions of the rich.
As i missed the first part, i'm not entirely sure about the main characters backgrounds. It's not essential, but I will make sure I read book 1 as I feel compelled to learn the whole story from the start.
James and Clare are the main couple, who i assume are probably mid 30's. They live in an incredible house/apartment in the city. I'm again assuming London, I know it's the UK as they visit Cornwall for a holiday in the first book and that's how they meet Bethan. Bethan is referred to as 'the girl' quite frequently and her age although never mentioned is hinted at, so i'm thinking she is approx 18.
Anyway, the 3 met under some unusual circumstances in Book 1, and now Bethan has written to the couple requesting to come stay with them. Bethan is very curious and wanting to explore a side to her that was awakened in Book 1. She had quite the interlude with James and Clare back when they were visiting a hotel in Cornwall and left an impression on Bethan that she can't seem to shake. So here we are, Bethan has requested an invitation to come stay (and play) with the couple, which they are exceedingly interested in accepting. They also, were left with an longing to see Bethan again and are excited at what her visit could hold.
The rest of the novella details Bethans visit and some of the key moments of her stay. Also some of the other people in James and Clare's social circle, Bethan gets to meet.
The rest has to be read, I can't even try and explain the experiences Bethan has and wouldn't want to spoil it. The encounters have opened her eyes and possibly mine too. ;) It would seem Bethan has found herself on quite the journey to discovery and it is described quite openly and nothing held back. Fans of naughty, short tales without all the pages of background would love this. It made for a great break for me. Straight to the point and no beating about the bush. (I'm not going to go down the pun route, honest) A quick, erotic, tale played out like fantasies of the rich. Luxurious backdrop to a naughty weekend. 5 stars!
