REVIEW - Ultimate Betrayal : Revelations - Catrina Courtenay

Title - Ultimate Betrayal : Revelations
Author - Catrina Courtenay

Synopsis

It didn’t matter that Veronica Harper spent years in the military and then was trained by the best of the best at the FBI. It didn’t matter that she was skilled in hand-to-hand combat or that she was one of the most sought after bodyguards in the industry. When Kincaid got a hold of her, he stripped away everything she thought she was and left her broken and terrified. That was five years ago.

Now, she is being forced back to L.A. in order to protect Hollywood’s most sought after bad boy, Erik Sinclair. He’s sexy, protective, and unrelenting in his pursuit of her, but he doesn’t know that demons that haunt her past. When past and present collide, will Ronnie be able to face the darkness that haunts her and save the only man capable of fixing her?

What It's about

A life hardened woman and an a relentless man. Trying to find a way to work together, against everything.

What I thought

Ronnie is a bodyguard, tasked with looking after Hollywood hottie Erik.
They have an unusual chemistry. I loved Ronnie's bite, her an Eriks attitudes towards each other are engaging and fresh and unexpected given what happened to her in the past. I won't spoil it by telling you what, but it was tough and so she's tough. On the outside.
"You're kind of scary, you know that right?"
I, like im sure many others couldn't help but compare Erik to Jamie Dornan, and as a JD fan, this was a comparison I was happy with. Erik is staring in a movie version of a sexy book (see the comparison) and because of this he is receiving death threats (coz people be crazy) thus why he needs a bodyguard.
"You have no business playing a BDSM dominant. You're just a paltry substitute for the real thing. One must learn to submit before they can dominate. One must experience pain before they can inflict it. Are you prepared to experience the pain of losing everything."
Ronnie is a bit too emotional for my liking to be in her role, but as with the other stuff I've said, this is just my opinion and she might just be someone else's idea of great.

Warning this book does contain a somewhat abrupt cliffy so be prepared.

I'm in two minds about this book. On the one hand it had all the things I love in a book. Drama, suspense, heat, romance & humour. Great! On the other hand I just didn't feel it and I'm annoyed at that. Not at the author, but at myself. Me and this book just didn't fit.
