REVIEW - Come back to Me - Kathryn Shay

TITLE - Come Back To Me
AUTHOR - Kathryn Shay

BLURB:

A family of heroes, all in dangerous jobs, all irrevocably tied to those they love. Read about the Marino clan in this fast-paced, emotional new series, To Serve and Protect, by NYT bestselling author Kathryn Shay.

Declan Marino was a lucky to get everything he wanted in life: marriage to his high school sweetheart, Delilah Carrier, and work as an army medic. But his world crashes in when his wife leaves him because she did not get what she wanted. Now, he’s raising his children alone, as he works in the ER and is periodically called up from missions in the Army Medical Reserve. Lila has snagged a promotion in the Pentagon. Life is hard and messy for all of them, especially their three girls. Follow Declan and Lila as they find their way back to each other and create a brand new life from the ashes of the old one.

COME BACK TO ME examines the difficulty of balancing two military parents and maintaining happy family life. The book also asks the question: can long-standing love triumph over the roadblocks of modern life?

Johnaka's Review:

“The last Marino sibling, 5 stars”

If you have read the previous stories in the Serve and Protect series you would know that Declan Marino has always kind of been a mystery. You know he’s a Doctor, a single dad, and part of a handpicked special group in the Reserves, but you don’t really know anything about his ex-wife. We finally get to see more than just a tiny part of him. You get to see him in every aspect in Come Back to Me. He’s dedicated to his job, loves his girls, and you’ll come to find out still carrying a torch for his ex.

Delilah aka Lila…I didn’t know exactly what to expect from her. There were times that I absolutely hated her, but had to step back and remind myself that she really wasn’t bad. Growing up all she wanted to do was serve her country. But time and time again she had to set her dreams aside so Declan could push forward. It caused a rift between the two. Lila was taught from the beginning you cannot have a family and a carrier but what if she was told wrong? What if she can have the love of her life, her kids, and her job?

These two fight a battle the whole time. Basically, time was never on their side until now. Even now though they have a lot going on around them. I loved getting to know the kids and how they felt. I especially liked the oldest daughter. I am hoping sometime down the line we may get the girls stories when the time comes. I enjoyed getting more of the Marino clan and even the Gentileschi Sisters. I cannot wait to see where she takes their stories.
