Title: Labors of a Hero

Author: Billie Dale

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About Labors of a Hero:

The only good my parents gave me is my name, Hercules.

I turned zero possibility into firefighting hero.

Now life’s pretty simple.
After all, with classic good looks,
I'm one of Farawayville's most eligible bachelors.

But when a sassy little ER nurse enters my life, everything gets a lot more complicated.

My new goal? To get into her heart, and her pants.

She challenges me with 12, yes 12, labors to prove I’m worthy of her time.

The quest of a lifetime, for one freaking date seems ridiculous.

But one look in those eyes, and I'm all in, and hellbent in turning one date into forever.

*Inspired by Hercules

OUR REVIEW:

This was a silly but fun read. This is a standalone book. I've never read anything by this author before, so this was an amusing read. The character names were just too much, as well as the town names.

Meg and Les get a lovely chance at love after heartbreak in this crazy fairy tale story. I enjoyed that main theme and how they dated to get to know each other. They both had lots of history to overcome and deal with to make their fairy tale a reality.

Meg is a nurse who has started over in a new place, with her trusty best friend. I loved how Meg just happened to have a fantastic college roommate who just happened to be loaded, which makes a lot of decisions/events possible. But Meg is a great nurse, and a good friend, and loves her new town. We don't find out for quite a while why she's hesitant to date. Les is the hunky firefighter that has the women in town falling all over his Fabio good looks. He too has a bad taste for relationships, but hasn't had to work for a women's affections in a while. And in addition to being a fireman, he's an EMT, and deputy police officer. The way Meg has Les doing these trials is laughable at first; but they turn into dates where they get to know each other better...so it turns out okay. And of course our trusty hero tries to rescue the damsel in distress, despite her being a force to be reckoned with.

Les turns Megs head at their first encounter. And then it all turns south for poor Les, and he suffers her wrath for quite a while. But despite Meg's desire to stay away, Les pulls her in. And their chemistry sizzles even in their fairy tale world.

Oh man, the character names in this book are hilarious. Too the point that it's trite. And while all the Disney names make you smile, there is an underlying story of two people working out how to be their best self, and deal with their past and present. The author did that in surprising ways. The plot was fast paced with some fun twists mixed in.

I thought this was a well written book, with a lot of creativity on the author's part. Underneath the sickly sweet fairy tale names and subtle hints to their Disney stories lies a deep and loving story of two people and their friends surviving some crappy circumstances. It made me smile and giggle quite a bit. And while I liked it, I'm not sure I want to read too much more.
