Release Blitz & Review - Slaughter - Shantel Tessier

Title: Slaughter
Author: Shantel Tessier
Genre: Romantic Suspense/Dark Romance
Release Date: October 26, 2018

Blurb

My name is Avery Decker, and my story isn’t for the faint of
heart. It is about revenge and hatred, misery and violence. I wasn’t always
this way even though it was in my blood. I grew up happy and in love with my
best friend until she betrayed me and walked away. After that, I fell into the
deep, dark world I was meant for.

Presleigh Clarke's actions turned me into the ruthless man I am today. Too bad
for her, I believe people should pay for the things they have done. The more
painful and messy, the better. I get off on making people bleed. It feeds my
inner demon, and right now, he is starving. She crossed me once, so now she’ll
know what it’s like to fear me. But not all stories end the way you think they
will … mine certainly didn’t.

OUR REVIEW:

Slaughter is the dark and twisted book that takes Avery and Presleigh on a hard journey of love, want and betrayal.

Avery is the boss man and with that comes dominance and a cut throat attitude, Presleigh ‘Bunny’ is a pawn piece in a game of chess that Avery is determined to win. Taking Presleigh as his own starts a war that he didn’t even know was brewing for the past 11 years. When Avery takes Presleigh he tried to tell himself it was nothing more than to get his revenge for all those years ago, but having her again puts him on the back foot as he continues to surprise himself as his feelings for her return.

Avery is a strong cold-hearted man; he is ruthless and unforgiving, he doesn’t like to lose and he wants something he has never had any desire to have again. Presleigh is a broken soul, she has spent the past decade drinking and sleeping her way through New York, trying to forget the man that left her alone, scared and feeling unwanted. she speaks her own mind and expresses herself loudly and continues to do so throughout the book.

The chemistry between Avery and Presleigh is off the charts, they both have a magnetic pull towards each other and when they come together as one they 4th of July fireworks. Carters dominate alpha male ways sets them on fire giving into desires that they both never knew existed.

This is my first Tessier book and it is a lot darker than what I normally read. Personally, while I did feel awkward in moments throughout the book I did enjoy it, this is a dark novel that would not be suitable for all tastes. I really enjoyed reading about Tristian’s character and hope that he gets his own story, there is a lot of mystery behind that man.

Excerpt

Big blue eyes stare into mine with a look of terror. Good, she recognizes me. Even in her drunken state, and eleven years later, she still knows who I am.

Her pink lips part, inhaling sharply. Her entire body goes rigid. I take a step toward her as she pulls me in just as she always did. I never could control myself with her. But this time has to be different. I have to be in total control of myself and of her.

She doesn’t move.

She doesn’t blink.

She doesn’t breathe.

Deciding to close the gap completely, I take two more steps until my body is close enough to feel the heat radiating from hers. Her long, dark hair drapes over one shoulder, and it looks good on her. She loved when I used to run my hands through her short hair and play with it. Now I just want to wrap it around my fists and force her to her knees. We never did fuck. We made love—always soft and slow. Now when I picture us in bed together, she is bound and gagged. That way, she won’t be able to stop all the sadistic shit that comes to mind.

I’ve become one of those men I swore to never be! All because of her.

I want her to beg me.

I want her to bleed for me.

I want her to love me.

But I’m not stupid. None of those things will come willingly. I’m gonna have to take them. And I have no problem with that. She made me who I am today, after all.

She continues to stand there like a deer in headlights. I give her a threatening smile but reach out to tuck her hair behind her ear in an innocent gesture when what I really wanna do is slap that look of surprise off her face.

Her body physically shakes.

“Hello, Bunny. Miss me?”
