TITLE - The Fix UpAUTHOR - Tawna Fenske
Synopsis:
Uncovering this sexy geek's charm is easy. Keeping her hands off of him is impossible.
While he may look like the love child of a movie starlet and an NFL linebacker, Ben Langley has the people skills of a half-drowned porcupine. Why socialize when there are chemistry labs and bad sci-fi flicks? If he has any hope of taking the helm as CEO of the family business, Ben needs an image makeover. Pronto.
Enter Holly Colvin, owner of First Impressions public relations and branding firm, and the woman who just saved Ben from the clutches of an over-attentive sales clerk. Holly's rebranded hundreds of companies in her career, but she's never rebranded a person. The guy clearly needs help, though, and she's just the woman for the job.
With the clock ticking for them both, Holly and Ben face off over wardrobe malfunctions and business jargon that sounds a lot sexier than it should. But can Holly make Ben into the man he thinks he should be without losing the man she's starting to love?
My Review:
I got a pretty big kick out of The Fix up. The writing was smooth and the story had strong flow. Like any good book there were times my cheeks hurt from smiling or I couldn’t stop my eyes from rolling due to choices made. This is the second book of Ms. Fenske’s that I have read and I foresee reading more of her work in future.
Ben oh Ben is one of those very attractive guys who has a bit of a nerdy side. Okay try nerdy with a side of good looking. He doesn’t know when he's getting hit on or anything because his mind is elsewhere. He wants to work on his inventions and give back to the people. The last can only happen with some help, then enter Holly.
Holly is a fixer in the public relations world. Want to portray a different person? She's the one you ask for help. One afternoon she finds Ben in an awkward at best situation and decides to help a guy out. Only at the time she didn't know she would begin to need him as much as he needs her.
I honestly don’t think I can say Ben and Holly were friends before lovers. It was more of an extreme lust kind of situation. Ben knew he wanted Holly in his bed and in his life right off the bat. But due to being burned in the past Holly was more than a little reluctant. But when Ben talked nerdy to her it was basically game over for her. Ben was like that pregnancy craving that you try to talk yourself out of but end up saying F@*! it and devour. They were everything the other deserved. The perfect ying to the yang. Two opposites make a positive for a reason. But will they actually get their HEA or will their ghosts prevent that from happening?
Here are some of my favorite quotes from The Fix Up:
“Live long and prosper and grope no more.”
“I’m sorry, what?”
“Fukalite. It’s a calcium carbonate silicate hydrate mineral.” “Fukalite.”
She stared at him. “Did you just make that up?”
“Is it wrong that I really enjoyed the look on your dad’s face when you told him under no circumstances was he allowed to pat, squeeze, grab, or comment on any part of my body?”
“I won’t claim I won’t have my jerky moments, but you’re always free to call me on it. That’s the way relationships work. We’re both going to screw up every now and then.”
