REVIEW - I'm Yours - Melody Grace

TITLE - I'm Yours
AUTHOR - Melody Grace

BLURB:

Artist Mackenzie Lane is almost thirty and still single, which, according to her neighbours, pretty much makes her the Spinster of Sweetbriar Cove. She’s sworn off terrible fix-ups, and is looking forward to her solo future of woolly mumus and cats. (Lots of cats). But a chance Halloween rendezvous awakens her reckless spirit, and makes her wonder if love might be in the cards, after all…

Jake Nash is back in town for the first time in years, recovering from a career-ending sports injury. He’s dazzled by the mysterious woman he meets by chance - and even more intrigued when he discovers it’s his high-school friend Mackenzie.

Ten years ago, Jake was the first (and only) guy to put a dent in Mackenzie’s invincible heart. She’s determined not to make the same mistake again, but when the pair are forced to team up to plan the annual Starbright Festival, old sparks fly - and new passion runs riot.

Soon, Mackenzie and Jake are risking it all. But will their connection last longer than the first snowfall? And can these old friends start a new chapter for love? Find out in the sizzling, romantic new novel from New York Times bestselling author Melody Grace!

Jennifer's Review:

Such a sweet second chance romance. Melody Grace knows how to write heartwarming romance novels. I’m Yours is a continuation of her Sweetbriar Cove series. While it can be read as a stand-alone, you will see characters from the previous books within this book. This book has second chances, romance, betrayal, and heart ache.

I was excited to read this book because we have known Mackenzie from the very first book. I was so glad she was finally getting her own book. The premise of this book is that Mackenzie reconnects with an old friend from school. This male character has come back into town after being away for a while. Will they take things to a new level, or are they destined to remain distant friends? This book answers this question.

Mackenzie is such a wonderful character. She is quirky, but she is such a joy to read about. She has a wicked sense of humor and is an amazing friend. I feel she is truly a good person. This book was well deserved. Mackenzie has some lingering issues from her dating past that she needs to resolve in order to fully be able to see the future. Jake has his own baggage to sort though. He is home for the holidays, but really because of an injury. Due to this injury, he has his own insecurities. He has his own path of discovery to go along to find out what his priorities. He really needs to figure out what is most important to him in his life.

There is such a sweet tone of this book, but there is also plenty of heat. These characters have a chemistry that seems to have been burning long before this book started. The past and the present meld together and creative a wonderfully explosive environment for these two characters. I loved watching them gravitate towards each other.

This is the type of book I expect from Melody Grace. While I liked the book, I feel the books are also a bit predictable. That is not really a bad thing. I go to Melody Grace books when I want something heartwarming. I like the way she writes romance stories and characters. The pace of this book is steady and every aspect is well thought out and planned. The writing is easy to read.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I loved getting to know Mackenzie better and finally seeing her test the romance waters. She is such a dynamic character that I think no matter who she was paired with, this would have been an amazing book. I like that she was paired with Jake though. Although this is the first time we met him in this series, he was a good match for our girl. It was a pleasure to get to know him.
