REVIEW x 2 - Healing Touch - Brenda Rothert

TITLE - Healing Touch
AUTHOR - Brenda Rothert

Blurb:

She spends her nights treating patients, but Dr. Jocelyn Drake's own wounds are unfixable. Her ex-husband and his younger, bouncier girlfriend work just a few floors away at Tulane Medical Center, and they serve as a constant reminder of what Joss lost. But a fierce determination to continue her research project and a shred of remaining pride keep Joss from transferring out of the Big Easy.

Carson Stephens recently returned from a tour of duty in the Middle East, and though willing women present themselves at every turn, his closest companion is loneliness. His night-shift work supervising the electrical and mechanical systems at the hospital is a perfect fit - it's solitary work putting broken things back together.

When the electrical system on Joss' floor goes haywire, she's frazzled by the sexy electrician who sparks her dormant sex drive. He's brooding and cocky - so not her type. But if Carson has his way, his hands will work their magic on more than just the wiring, and he'll show Joss a night of passion that restores her shattered confidence.

But what happens after that night? As their relationship grows into something more, Joss and Carson face ups and downs, and they both realize that the healing has only just begun.

Johnaka's Review:

“Finding happily ever after, 4 stars”

Joss has had a craptastic year. Ever since her husband left her for a nurse at their hospital its like everyone is staring and talking about her. She’s happy to be rid of him but he killed her confidence and she’s full of self-doubt. Until Carson. Will Carson be the one to bring the old Joss back?

Carson has invisible scars from war and now he’s trying to keep his mind and hands busy. He has this warped idea that he’s not cut out for relationships until he meets Joss. Will she be able to change his mind? And if she can will he be able to let go of his past and give her a fair chance?

I really liked Healing Touch. The title fit perfectly with what was happening in the story. Carson and Joss found solace in each other. It was beautiful. I did want to punch Joss’ ex for causing problems and being an overall d-bag though. But I feel like the main lesson in the story is forgiveness.

Jennifer's Review:

Such a cute and funny romance! Healing Touch is such an amazing little romance. At first, I wasn’t sure if I liked it. It took me a minute to warm up to it, but as soon as I did, I was hooked. I kept flipping pages until there were no more to flip! This book has a bit of humor, a lot of drama, and just enough romance to keep you wanting more.

I liked the plot of this book. Two unlikely souls meeting by chance? Like I said before, at first I wasn’t sold, but I was quickly drawn into these characters. Are they just in for a one night stand or is there more to this than either expected? What I loved most is that Joss is a lover scorned while Carson is a military vet who is running from his demons. Can these two find peace with each other or are they destined to live life alone? Read it to find out.

Joss is a strong and admirable character. She has suffered something terrible and yet she still keeps her head high. While it caused insecurities in her, she hides those well in front of those who have wronged her. I also love how forgiving she is. While she doesn’t forget, she also doesn’t hold grudges. Then you have Carson. He is an interesting character. I loved the depth to him. He is an attractive, broody man on the outside, but he has layers upon layers on the inside. I loved reading about him.

The heat in this book is nice and steamy. These two characters have instant chemistry. They each find attractive characters in the other and they aren’t all superficial. I loved watching them heat up the pages.

I liked the writing style of this book. At first, I found some inconsistencies with the story. They were small, but distracted me. As the story continued, I quickly forgot about those inconsistencies and fell in love with the characters and story. The pace of this book is steady. The content is done very well.

In conclusion, I enjoyed this story. It wasn’t quite a 5 star read for me, but I enjoyed it. The characters were interesting and the story was written well. I would recommend this book to others. It was a nice story.
