REVIEW x 2 - Wild Card - Lila Monroe

TITLE - Wild Card
AUTHOR - Lila Monroe

BLURB:

‘The Wedding Date’ gets a sexy twist in the new hilarious rom-com from Lila Monroe!

Is there anything worse than playing maid-of-honor to your bitchy college nemesis? Try it when she’s marrying your DAD! Olivia Chambers doesn’t know what she’s done to deserve this karmic retribution, but she needs a date to the wedding from hell - and fast. She’s used to matchmaking billionaires, but now she needs a Prince Charming of her own. Someone handsome and famous enough to make bridezilla and her minions drool with envy…

Someone like hottie ex-NFL star Ryan Callahan.

Ryan is looking for love. Well, the fake kind. He needs the perfect woman on his arm to woo investors for his superstar new business venture, but nobody is scoring that touchdown… until elegant, sophisticated Olivia comes to him with a proposition. She’ll play his perfect date - if he’ll play hers.

The deal is simple! Or is it? Take one week in the Florida Keys, a dose of sizzling sexual tension, a madcap wedding, and some seriously humid frizzy hair, and Ryan and Olivia have the recipe for disaster… or maybe the time of their lives.

But can Olivia let down her guard long enough to let Ryan sweep her off her feet? And will Ryan take his eyes off the (business) prize long enough to see what’s right in front of him?

Find out in the hot, delicious new novel from Lila Monroe!

Louise's Review:

Ryan needs a fake Girlfriend and who better to find him one than Olivia, He is picky and when it comes down to crunch time he figures out its her that fits every quality he is chasing. Seeing this as an opportunity to have a gorgeous ex football star on her arm at the wedding of her father and college nemeses, Ryan and Olivia come to an agreement that suits them both.

Olivia is an independent woman who has built a career for herself, she has everything she needs in life. Throughout the book she has some very awkward and trying situations thrown at her but she handles them like water off a duck back. Ryan’s football career might have ended the day of his injury but the rest of his life was just starting, he ventured into a variety of different rolls and came up with a new business venture that he put his heart and soul into. He strived for more and did everything possible to make that happen.

How could it go wrong, this was purely professional business contract for both of them “Quid Pro Quo” as they called it. When the fine lines start to fade away and they begin to give in on the feelings they have for each other their attraction grows dramatically. Trying to maintain professionalism makes the lust more evident and brings their relationship to a whole different level.

This is my first Lila book and I just love her easy going writing style, reading this book was effortless and was done in one sitting. I really enjoyed hearing from Olivia and Ryan, it gives me an understanding on how the characters think and gives the book everything it needs to be a standout.

I personally loved this book, it was easy to read, light hearted and had the right amount of drama to make it a book I didn’t want to put down. I will be adding the previous Billionaire Bachelors books to my reading list along with her next book in the series, Man Candy.

Jennifer's Review:

He needs a fake girlfriend and she needs a fake boyfriend. The perfect arrangement or a huge mistake? Wild Card is a great contemporary romance. This book has everything a romance novel needs. One hot male, a feisty female, and an arrangement that neither can turn down. After all, it is just a week, right? This is a stand-alone in the series that can be read without reading the others.

The plot of this book is what made me pick it up. Ex football star needs a fake girlfriend to impress some big wigs? Perfect. Said girl needs a fake boyfriend to take to her fathers wedding? Another layer that adds depth. The fact that the professional lines become muddled quite quickly? Yeah that adds up to an amazing story filled with steam and drama.

Olivia is such an interesting character. At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about her. Pretty quickly she is thrown into an interesting situation that actually endeared me to her. In the end, Olivia is a strong character with admirable characteristics. Ryan is more than he seems. At first, he comes off as a jerk, but fairly quickly, we are able to see he is much more than he seems. I loved his dominate personality and obvious compassion.

The chemistry between these two was subtle at first, but as soon as they slipped, the chemistry came pouring out. I think something that always adds to the chemistry of a story is when the characters are denying the obvious and attempting to have self-control. This adds a layer that will eventually blow wide open, bleeding passion onto the pages. The heat in this story is on point.

I liked the writing style of this book. The pace is steady. The characters are exactly who they should be. Even the minor characters are great. While I didn’t love some of them, their antics were just what the story needed. This story is told from a dual point of view. My only complaint about this book is that Olivia lost something in this book that I really wish would have been found some way. I thought I knew how that was going to be, but I was disappointed when it was kind of just forgotten.

Overall, I loved this story. Even with the minor disappointment, this was a 5 star read for me. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put the book down. I wanted to keep flipping until I knew how this turned out. I would recommend this book to others and would love to not only read the next book, but also go back and read previous books as well.
