REVIEW - Broken by Annie Jocoby

Title - Broken
Author - Annie Jocoby

Synopsis

Nick O'Hara is, for lack of a better word, a man-wh***. Look in the Urban Dictionary under that word, and his name will no doubt be mentioned. The only qualifications that he looks for in a bed-mate is that the person is hot and breathing. Mainly hot. He has no desire for an emotional connection with another person, and that's the way he lives his life. He has his fabulous wealth and his reputation as a premiere architect, and that's enough for him.

Until Scotty James.

Scotty is a graduate student at Columbia University in New York City. She's broken from traumatic experiences from her years in foster care and homelessness. She has a vulnerability that is intoxicating to Nick, because, deep down, he knows that he is as broken as she.

When Nick pursues Scotty, it seems that she is the only woman who doesn't want to be with him. At first she's a challenge, but Nick soon finds himself falling in love for the first time in his life. With a woman who wants nothing to do with him.

Can Scotty overcome her trust issues and fear to let Nick in? Or will she prove to be too broken to trust?

What I thought

Nick and Scotty are two opposite ends of the spectrum. Nick is one of life's winners, he's sleeping his way through half of New York, rolling in money and attitude that matches his lifestyle. Scotty is one of life's losers, a childhood victim who does not engage with men and lives hand to mouth. What happens when they meet?
"This continued as more and more people rushed in. In the back of my mind, I was really looking forward to seeing professor O'Hara again, and then shook my head. How for the teacher? Aren't you just a bit old for that? Actually I never liked that particular song, a better song would be 'Don't stand so close to me' I started singing the lyrics to this song softly to myself while I poured another drink, and then smiled."
Well thats frustrating, I like my alphas to be cool and heroic, dark and dirty, sexy without even trying, but this Nick is just a bit of a Dick. He did not appeal to me at all. His attitude stank. I could put aside his man whorish ways, but still. MEH! His reaction to Scotty's background is just the biggest turn off and me personally I'd have never spoken to him again if I was her. Plus He's her professional senior. Rules dude. Rules!

Scotty has had a rubbish life, a victim of childhood abuse she has continued being a victim all her life, fear holding her back from doing anything or being anyone. She just goes to college and exists. I found her selfish and annoying and she garnered no sympathy. I just wanted to yell at her, GROW UP AND GROW A PAIR!
"We always recognize each other. It has become part of my DNA, so I can almost always spot it in others"
This is, just my opinion and these two might be right up someone else's street and I hope they are because I didn't mind how it was written and I like the way the author thinks. This one just fell short for me. And there were one too many spelling and grammatical mistake to not say anything. Sorry.
