BLURB

From USA Today Bestselling author, the second book in the Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team Series

If you don't love, you can't get hurt...

Nick Kepler

One thing my childhood taught me was never show my emotions. Don’t make memories. Don’t count on other people. Don’t hope for the best.

All that changed when I was adopted by Ryan and Whitney Kepler.

Begrudgingly I let them into my life, along with my new sister and a best friend I would lay down my life for. But giving up my heart and accepting love in return from Kelsea Harrison? It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever tried to do.

And the truth is? I’m not sure if I’m that strong.

Kelsea Harrison

From the very moment I met Nick Kepler I knew he would be the love of my life. Problem is I haven’t been able to convince him of that yet.

When our best friends get married, Nick and I spend a drunken night letting our walls down and losing all our inhibitions. In one moment I’m given everything I ever wanted. Then, in the blink of an eye it’s taken away from me.

The question is, can I be strong for the both of us?

The answer? I have to be.

OUR REVIEW:
Jennifer Review:
Unexpected love? Suppression is the second book in the next generation Moonshine Task Force series called Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team. This book has been long awaited. The characters are ones we met long ago and fell in love with. Seeing them in a new light was great for us long time readers. That doesn’t mean that they aren’t good for new readers though. These characters will be loved by all readers.
The plot of this book is interesting. The two characters couldn’t be any more different. Nick has a rough background. Kelsea has had a different one that can be perceived as easier. These two have grown up together, but never quite crossing the line from friends to more. Will they be able to overcome the many obstacles in their life to find each other?
Kelsea is such a strong, independent woman. She was raised with a loving family and it is very evident. She loves with all of her heart and never gives up. Nick is a strong, alpha male. He has a lot of demons hiding in his closet. His background is dark. It shaped who he is. His background and ability to cope with it shapes a good portion of the book.
The heat in this book is amazing. The author does a good job building the characters and their relationship. This leads to the heat in the book being on the next level. It makes the reader feel invested in these characters. The chemistry is written perfectly.
I loved the writing style of this book. The story is told from dual point of views. The pace was steady. The subject matter was well researched. I did feel one part was a little unrealistic, but honestly didn’t mind. I really enjoyed reading about the other characters in the story.
Overall, I loved this book. I cannot wait to see where the author goes next. Not only have we gotten to see past characters, but we have also gotten to meet new ones we are now invested in.

Suppression by Laramie Briscoe

Review by Erin Hurst

Y’all, this book will get you in all the feels.  It will leave you heartbroken and overjoyed, and angry and smiling.  First, we get to see our good friends from the first LSERT book, Ransom.  If you haven’t read it, go back and do so.  I think you could enjoy Suppression without reading it, but I’m not sure why you’d want to.  Ms. Brisco has created a large and wonderful book universe that this book ties into.

Suppression’s story follows Nick and Kelsea.  They are the best friends to a newly married couple and friends themselves.  But Kelsea wants more and has loved NIck for years.  Nick is still dealing with a traumatic childhood and learning to let love in.  Seeing that angst and love and strength and vulnerability unfold for both made for a one of a kind book!

Kelsea may be one of my favorite character’s written by Ms. Briscoe.  She’s smart, she’s strong, she’s patient.  And when she decides to put her feelings on the line, she does so with grace and compassion.  She’s an unfailing friend, yet despite this list of attributes, she’s still a truly relatable woman with breakdowns and tears and struggles.  I wasn’t sure what to make of Nick as we came into this story.  He had a brief introduction in the MTF series; then we saw him in Ransom as a young man.  He’s obviously making good choices and a classic strong police officer.  Reading his backstory was both eye-opening and frustrating and joyful.  He reminds me a bit of the Winnie-the-Pooh character Eyeore, part of the crowd, but on the edge and not happy and not-unhappy.  So to see how he and Kelsea partner up and take on the world was a truly amazing read!

We knew from the blurb that Kelsea was attracted to Nick.  A few chapters in we saw some of NIck’s feelings for Kelsea.  The attraction and chemistry was there, but it led a real life twisty-turny path.  But no matter the path, Nick showed he was unable to withstand the pull of his attraction to Kelsea and make use of some x-rated skills.

The beginning of this book pulled the long time reader in quickly, and then delved into this books plot.  It was a fun way to connect the stories.  All along the plotline, the writing had me experiencing the characters emotions to keep me reading as quickly as possible.  The dialogue, friendships, family ties, and great world building that Ms. Briscoe has woven into this story are some of her finest.

I loved this books Epilogues.  Keep reading to the second one, as those last few pages seal the deal on this book.  Suppression to me seems an end of an era for the MTF family, but I know there are many secondary characters with stories left to tell that belong to the LSERT.  I have no doubt that their stories will be as amazing and intriguing!

Favorite Quotes:

“It’s not very often he lets his guard down enough to even give me this much.  One of the perks of loving a man who doesn’t believe in it.”

“It’s the fact she still wants me, no matter how many times I’ve hurt her, no matter how much I’ve pushed her away.  It’s the fact she’s never given up on me.  Even when I’ve given up on myself.”

“He called me baby.  He’s never called me baby.  I hold the endearment in my pocket, tucking it away for a cold day.”

“One thing I’ve learned is there’s always a second-chance, always something waiting right around the corner.  Are you ready for what’s waiting around the corner?”

“I will be the person you can always count on.  I’ll be the one who filters all the shit so you can see all the good.  Somebody comes for you?  They come through me.”
