BLURB:

Everything is a lie.

Sam has spent the last six months sorting through plots against the people she cares for most. Learning who to trust—and who to kill. And just when she thought she had it all figured out, the good guys separated from the bad, her world is upended.

Ea’s vessel has been revealed.

The equinox is coming.

Sam knows it’s up to her to stop what’s coming—and who is bringing it. If she doesn’t, the goddess inside her will take over, erasing what’s left of Sam’s sense of self. In fact, Hina’s already struggling for dominance.

But how can Sam possibly battle evil itself when her heartbreak is so great she can’t even heal Alex when he needs her most? Sam needs time. And time is the one thing she doesn’t have.

Alex is struggling to heal and to help Sam stay grounded. But he’s got his own mystery to solve. A secret about himself and his past that he doesn’t even know exists. Together, they’ll battle demons inside and out.

Book 5 in the edge-of-your-seat Heart Lines Series from Heather Hildenbrand

REVIEW:

A wonderful continuation in the Heart lines series! Each book in this series has been written wonderfully. While I usually don’t like series that go for more than a couple of books following the same main characters, this author has not let me down. I feel each book has a lot to add to the series as a whole instead of feeling like the same basic information being repeated over and over. Each book has it’s own plot that needs to happen in order to further the progress of the main plot.

The plot of this specific book, Defiance, is an important one that has been hinted at since the beginning. This book starts right where the last book left off. The sting of the surprise ending is still evident in the characters hearts and mind. By starting this book off on a low point for the characters, it give it the opportunity to go uphill for the characters. There is a lot that still needs to be explored, even at the end of this book.

Sam and Alex have come such a long way since the first book. They have been each developing in their own way since the beginning. I feel this book was mostly focused on Sam though. She is an amazing character. Even when most would consider her at a weak point, she still stays strong. I think her determination and loyalty to those she loves is such admirable qualities in a character. This story was such an important piece of her journey and I am glad we were finally able to make it to this place.

The chemistry between these characters has been there since the beginning of this series. Their relationship has changed and grown throughout the series and we are able to continue to see that in this book. I think it is an important part of the story to continually having small changes within the characters interactions as it happens every day in real life. Life is fluid and nothing every stays the same.

The author still has an amazing writing style. She keeps a steady pace in the book so readers do not feel it is rushed or too slow. She also has a way of making each story unique while also furthering the main plot of the entire series at the same time. This is so rare for me to find in authors as usually they just go on and on or lose focus. I can tell this author really wants this story to be special for readers.

In conclusion, this is another wonderful story in the Heart lines series. I can’t wait for the next book to come out. The way this book ended, I feel the next book might be the conclusion to the main. I cannot wait to get my hands on it. Awesome job and another great story.
