Book Blurb:

He’s known as Father Anton to his teammates—the brooding, sexy captain of the NHL’s Chicago Blaze has a reputation for…not having a reputation. Just like his diet and sleep routines, celibacy is part of Anton Petrov’s on-ice mojo. Or so they say. Anton stays mum on the subject. If the world thinks he chooses to abstain from sex, so be it. Better that than the truth getting out: there is a woman he burns for, but he can never have her. She’s his teammate’s wife, after all.

Mia Marceau is finally on her own. Now that she and her husband are living apart, she’s finding the peace she was desperate for. She spends her days in classes and late nights bartending, making her own way in the world at last. After what she’s been through, as long as her husband leaves her alone, she doesn’t plan to rock the boat. He still has the power to hurt those dearest to her, and she can’t demand a divorce with such a high cost.

A chance encounter with Mia has Anton hoping for a shot he never thought he’d get. And while she’s drawn to the intense, serious hockey center, Mia’s leery about playing with fire. That’s all Anton has ever known for Mia, though—a living, burning desire that won’t be denied—no matter the cost.

Louise's Review:

Anton has found the one he wants, too bad she is married, to make matters worse married to his team mate who doesn’t appreciate her; When a chance encounter brings them together truths are told and Anton has faith that one day that Mia might be his. When everything comes to light can Anton keep his team and the press from hounding him and will Mia be able to fulfil her dreams which are so close, she can almost grab them.

I enjoyed the plot but felt that in some aspect this story fell short for me I just couldn’t get into the story, Uncle Dix was a highlight throughout and kept the laughs coming also bringing me tears; he was a fantastic minor character.

This was my first book by Rothert and I enjoyed the dual POV throughout, while personally this book wasn’t the story for me, I don’t doubt it could be for someone else.

Johnaka's Review:

“Is she really taken? 3 stars”

Mia made a mistake when she married Adam and now, she’s working her way out of it. He made her life he ll. When Anton her former husbands team captain finds his way into her bar will she be able to keep the truth about her and Adam secret any longer? Anton is everything Adam isn’t which only leads to confusion. Will she be able to keep her feelings separate?

Anton has wanted Mia from day one. He’s watched and loathed the way her husband treats their marriage vows for far too long. When he finds Mia working at a bar and discovers the truth, he cant help but move things a little further along. Will Mia get on the same page with him? And will being with Mia be better or worse than her ever thought possible?

I genuinely liked the concept of Anton. I liked how neither Mia or Anton wavered on her marriage vows even though they were long since over. But aside from that Anton fell flat for me. The characters were great I just couldn’t get into the story. I recently read another hockey book about a player with the same name as Anton and I honestly thought about it the whole time which totally took away from the story for me. If you take a chance on Anton, I hope you enjoy it.
