They say roses are the most beautiful...

Gin Fielding is counting the days until she escapes the small-town life of Roper, Missouri for college at NYU. She prefers to blend in, though she's far from invisible. But when she protects a younger student from a bully, the spotlight turns on her in ways she never imagined.

I say that every rose has its thorn...

The Friday night lights shine bright on Chase Matthews. Roper's golden boy, Chase can do no wrong, enjoying the small-town celebrity being the star quarterback brings. When Gin defends his little sister against a bully, he decides to lend her his star power and change her senior year in ways she never imagined.

But maybe the thorns are part of their beauty.

When Gin declines Chase's invitation to be part of the elite Sweet Sixteen, the repercussions turn both their lives upside down. But amidst the chaos, Gin and Chase find solace in one another. Together, they confront the ugly truth-- that sometimes glory has a dark side.

***Warning--Sweet Sixteen is an upper YA book with mature themes and is intended for readers 18+.

Our Review:

“Opposites attract, 5 stars”

We were all in high school once. We probably saw things go down that weren’t legit, maybe even participated in said things. For some they tear them down and others they black it out. Then there are some who want nothing to do with it and push for change.
Gin keeps her head down and flies under the radar. She usually only comes up from her own world to defend someone who cannot defend themselves. Her heroic actions put her in her crushes crosshairs. When he unknowingly tosses her under the bus a whole slew of change of events take place. Will she make it through her senior year unscathed?
Chase is the captain of the football team and keeps the traditions alive. When Gin sets herself in his path he decides to try and make her life better. But what happens when a single rose turns everything topsy turvy? Will he see the error in their small towns ways or will he fight to keep the traditions?
I freaking loved Sweet Sixteen. It was a YA but with a lot of depth and change happening. I’m from a small town, and even though I can say nothing happened like the things in Sweet Sixteen I know that stuff happened. Sweet Sixteen shows the dirty side of being a teenager and how one person or one time can change us and make us see error in our ways.
I think everyone should read Sweet Sixteen. Especially in the world we live in, it could force you to talk to the younger people you know.
