BLURB:

Thorn

From the first time I played army as a kid, the military has been my life. As an Airborne Major, I’d led my men through two tours in Afghanistan. But when my father was elected president, I became an even greater target for the enemy—a prize for someone to take out. To ensure not only the safety of myself, but of my men, I got stripped of my cammies, shoved into an Armani suit, and placed into a management position at my father’s company. After years of trekking through the desert with an assault rifle, I was way out of my area of expertise, which my transition coordinator was more than happy to let me know on a daily, if not hourly basis. The brunette bombshell would be the death of me in more ways than one, especially since I hadn’t been with a woman since my last deployment. She’s turning out to be one of the greatest foes I’ve ever done battle with.

Isabel

In the backwoods Georgia town I was born in, you either married right out of high school or got the hell out of town. I chose the second and never looked back. After graduating top in my class, I started working for The Callahan Corporation. Fast forward five years and I was about to become the youngest female manager in the history of my department. And then all the blood, sweat, and tears I’d put into my career were for nothing when the boss’s billionaire son was handed my position on a silver platter. Not only that, I was expected to help transition him into the job that was supposed to be mine. Sure, he’s easy on the eyes with his chiseled good-looks and impossibly built physique, but I’m not going to let that distract me. I hope soldier boy is good at military strategy because sabotage is the name of the game I’ll be playing.

Johnaka's Review:

“Expect the unexpected, 5 stars”

Isabel knows her promotion is coming, its basically public knowledge. All she’s waiting for is the big grand announcement and she’s earned it. But then something completely unexpected happened and that would be Thorn. He took what should have been the best day of her life and made it one of the worst and now she’s stuck with him. Will she be able to set aside her dislike for him and get to know him?

Thorn isn’t having the greatest time of it lately. He’s found himself in a life he never wanted yet there is no way out. So he does what anyone can do, he fully embraces it and tries to make the best out of it. The worst of all is being under Isabel’s questioning stare and second guessing everything because of it. Will he be able to live up to her expectations?

I absolutely adored these two. They started out as enemies (or at least she thought he was one), moved onto be friends, who then turned lovers. With the transition of each phase could have made the story seem like it was dragging but never once did I feel that way. The heat between these two was always there and ready to explode. Office Mate was all about change and I enjoyed it. I think you will too. Plus, you should one-click for the sabotage and drunken ramblings alone.

Jennifer's Review:

A cute friends to lovers romance. Office Mate is a good book. This book has a bit of humor in it, which really added to the story. The characters were good and the plot written well. This story has sass, heat, and romance. If you like romance novels, then you will like this book.

The plot of this story was good. Former military member, Thorn is thrust into a new world, one that he is not prepared for. While acclimating to this new civilian life, he gets something he never imagined or bargained for. Then you have Isabel. She has fought for everything she has. So of course when this war veteran barges into her life and ruins all she has worked for, she isn’t a happy camper. This sets up for an amazing story. My only complaint is that I felt like there should have been more conflict. With that being said, I enjoyed it.

Thorn is one hot character. I loved his inner thoughts and the downright naughty direction they often took. What I liked most about him was how he was able to admit his mistakes and take responsibility for his actions. This was such a hot characteristic for me. Isabel is a strong female lead. I loved her sass. She is able to play ball with the boys which is a big thing. What I loved most was her devious thoughts. She did things most would only think about. I liked that I was able to live out some of my revenge fantasies through this book.

I really enjoyed the heat in this book. It wasn’t just a book about jumping into a physical relationship. This book takes a more subtle approach to the heat between the characters. While their thoughts heat up throughout the book, the actual relationship progresses slowly. I liked this aspect because it seemed much more realistic.

I liked the writing style of this book. The author has a way of writing that really draws readers in. I really enjoyed the dual point of views. This book needed to know what Thorn was thinking. I also liked the use of time jumps. It allowed the story to progress without it feeling like everything happened too quickly.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was a quick and easy read that kept me entertained. I would recommend this book to others. I really enjoyed the way the author wrote this book and I look forward to reading more from her. Great story.
