“Life and baseball, 4 stars”
I love Ryan’s stories, but Beyond the Bases started out a little slow for me, then BAM! It all clicked for me. Once it clicked I was sucked in and fell in love with these characters. When the book started I didn’t know for sure where it was going and then everything fell into place and I loved it.
Easton is a pro baseball player who is not a player. Thanks to his dad he knew what the life was about before he ever signed a contract. So, when he takes interest in Larissa he’s kind of surprised that she wants nothing to do with him. What does any logical man do in this instance? He works for it, he sets out to prove he is worth the risk.
Larissa has been jaded by life in some truly craptastic ways. So, when a professional ballplayer sets his sights on her all she sees is heart break, and that’s not going to happen. She can’t let it happen, so she pushes him away. But what happens when Easton isn’t like every other guy and stays? Will she let him in or will her jaded past hold her back?
These two belonged together! I love the way they worked and balanced each other out. The way Ryan worked the story to slowly build and come together was great. I didn’t want the story to end. If you love sports romances with a serious hero who sets his sights on someone and doesn’t waiver then Beyond the Bases is a story for you.
