She saves him from himself. But he ruins her for anyone else.

He shouldn’t smile at me. He shouldn’t even look at me. He’s cost me more than he’ll ever know yet he’s saved me in ways he’ll never realize. Carter Kane is different. He sees past me and through me and into me all at the same time. He makes the damaged parts of me beautiful and the beautiful parts inconsequential.

She's the last person I expect to meet here. Wide blue eyes, full lips, and flowers in her hair, she looks like she could grace the cover of a magazine. Or dance at Coachella. But when Taylor Clarke unexpectedly catapults into my life, she flips it upside down, forcing me to see things differently. Forcing me to admit things I’d rather forget.

Sometimes life hands us a second chance. A fresh start. Sometimes life deals us a tragedy that we just manage to recover from. Sometimes, it’s even beautiful.

Our Review

After having the pleasure of reading the first book in this series, I was eagerly anticipating the second, and any others that come! This book is a stand alone, but I feel like you'll get a better connection to the characters if you read the first book in the series. It's a feel good book with a fantastic outcome that gives you hope for humanity and love.

Life hands these characters a tragedy that leads to life altering circumstances. How they handle the situations, choices, and moments may change their lives forever. It's about second chances. But not just that, it's about finding your inner strength and self worth. The first chapter breaks your heart and leaves your pulse pounding; but the resulting writing is a series of hilarious lines, hold your breath moments, sweet actions, and the gut wrenching unfairness of life...all tempered by knowing there's a happily ending somehow.

After being introduced to Carter in Rescuing Broken, I could not wait to see what happened when love walked into his life. Carter is the strong rock brother that stayed in town to help raise his little sister. He's the brother that seems responsible without being sure of himself. He's a good guy, with some unfair life foisted on him. But how he deals shows that he's well on his way to being a great man. Daisy is a girl who seems to have it all: looks, money, family, boyfriend. But social status and “things” don't make a person happy. So when some of those things disappear, she has to re-evaluate her life and how to be happy and content. Their interactions are fantastic. It was one of my favorite love stories to see unfold. You cringed, you cried, you wished you were there (can I be Daisy?), you loved with them.

Carter and Daisy start off rough, due to circumstances. But they start an awkward but amazing friendship that turns to more. I liked that their whole relationship wasn't just about how hot the sex was. There's more to life than that, and making sure you can stand each other, and stand up for each other, out of the bedroom is important. But their differences work well for their characters and spice up the story.

Gina Azzi draws you in so fast. The first two chapters set up a cliffhangar and the whole plot; you have to keep going to know what's going to happen. I love her writing. It's funny, it's witty, it's serious, it's amazing! She keeps all the details relevant, fast paced, and applicable.

I loved how this book turned out. And I loved how it set up their brother for a book. And I loved how we got to see a bit more of Jax and Evie. You should all read it!

Favorite Quotes:
“Let's add this to the list of Carter Kane [mess-ups]. Why do I always end up hurting the ones I care about, even when I'm trying to do the right thing?”
“She's different. I knew it the moment I saw her, walking with her eyes closed, her face gently turned up toward the sunshine, a small smile playing over her lips. She looked like she was truly enjoying the day, the way kids enjoy something, fully and completely.”
“She's effortlessly charming, genuinely honest. She's refreshing.”
“He was nothing like I expected. Gorgeous, yes. Charming, sure. But I didn't anticipate his quick wit, sense of humor, or the intelligence that sparked just behind the warmth in his sea-foam green eyes.”
