REVIEW - Savage Fire (Savage Angels MC #2) - Kathleen Kelly

Title - Savage Fire (Savage Angels MC #2)

Author - Kathleen Kelly

Synopsis

Emily Reynolds, estranged sister to Dane Reynolds, President of the Savage Angels MC, has just lost her father. He was not a caring man and inflicted suffering on his family. Dane abandoned her and her mother years ago, leaving them alone to deal with a brutal man who never showed any love or mercy. Emily wants Dane to feel the pain she felt, she wants him to suffer as she did and decides to make the long drive to see him.

Salvatore Agostino, captain in the Abruzzi crime family is also on his way to see Dane Reynolds. A ruthless businessman, he is fiercely loyal to his family and his men. A chance encounter brings him face to face with Emily.

These two meet and their attraction grows into a love that neither could have anticipated.

Will they be able to overcome the turmoil that awaits them or will their love be destroyed by forces beyond their control?

What it's all about

The estranged sister of Savage Angels MC president Emily and boss from the Abruzzi crime family Salvatore meet by chance whilst both en route to Tourmaline to visit the same person (but neither of them know that)

What I thought

Emily Reynolds is Dane's sister (We met Dane and the other MC guys in book one), she's just lost the only family she has besides Dane. She is hurt and angry and wants to tell Dane just that, so she sets off to see him. Along the way she is saved from a nasty incident by a kind stranger and saved again when she crashed her car by said stranger. Only this stranger is no kind soul, it is Salvatore Agostino. Crime family boss and general bad guy. He is not bad to Emily though. So he takes her to where she wants to go, and this is where things start to unravel.
"Does trouble just follow you around or are you prone to bad decisions"
Sal wants to know why the angels are muscling in on his family's patch. There was an agreement in place with Kat's mum to stay well away.
Sal's being set up though, Guido wants him gone, and the business loss is down to one member of the MC thinking he was using his brain. But he's not, he's really, really not.
"I serve the Don. Do not underestimate my allegiance to him.
The Angels and Sal / his boys clash as expected, but when Emily's life is in grave danger they are forced to work together to get her back and ensure her safety. Poor Emily is put right through the mill because a bunch of blokes have an attitude problem and want more power. Can she be saved? Can Sal move past whats happened? Can they make anything work between them? And who is Mrs Saunders really??? That woman's causing A LOT of trouble for a dead lady.
"She had me by the fucking balls. You have no idea what Ms Saunders was actually like. She had shit on everyone. Well, those she considered a threat. Just ask Justice Leaverton."
It was nice to catch up with the others too, Kat & Dane get a fair bit of attention in this book two and we got see more of Bear (my fave) as well as Jonas and the other guys.

Whilst I loved the characters and the story in this book, I found myself torn and somewhat irritated by parts of it. Mainly by the writing itself. We have a guy from an Italian crime family and a group of guys from and MC in a middle of nowhere town. And yet they all speak standard English. None of them have accents / dialects and none of them use any slang. This really bothered me, because it made reading the Italian bits difficult, as I could help but read them in the same standard English voice.

But that's just me and how I read them, and my opinion on the language does not take away from the fact that I enjoyed the story itself.
